[Bug 1883515] Re: Can not login with gdm3 when user cred is stored in NIS
the issue with not having the same output of the "id" command has gone away after a reboot but something is still strange with that as I did logout and login the user after changing the group settings for the user to be able to see the change. its not going to work well if the entire machine needs to be rebooted every time /etc/group is changed. again worked fine when logged into the terminal/ssh but the desktop(gdm) did not pick up the change until after a reboot. is something caching user data ?? that user id was in nis but the group file was local (the id was added to sudo and adm group) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1883515 Title: Can not login with gdm3 when user cred is stored in NIS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1883515/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1883515] Re: Can not login with gdm3 when user cred is stored in NIS
Yes its the same issue. has to be something resent as 20.04 used to work fine. just to be clear I still have the same home(nfs) directory so local user do not mean another user just that the user account information is local instead of in NIS database. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1883515 Title: Can not login with gdm3 when user cred is stored in NIS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1883515/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1883515] [NEW] Can not login with gdm3 when user cred is stored in NIS
Public bug reported: So I no longer can login using gdm3. ssh works fine and from tty console aslo. This seams to be limited to user that are stored in NIS. But there also is some issue with local users. I was running ubuntu 20.20 just fine but after a reboot there is some serious issues with how users are handled. Since I get thrown out directly after typing password there is a very limited amount of information I can give. lets start with the local user: if I start a gnome-terminal and run "id" I get this. uid=1000(kenjo_local) gid=1000(ken) groups=1000(ken) if I then login to the same machine with "ssh localhost" and run id i get the correct uid=1000(kenjo_local) gid=1000(ken) groups=1000(ken),4(adm),27(sudo) why ??? --- for nis users I have no information to give as I never get to a bash prompt and can do anything. A critical error looks to be this pam_systemd(gdm-password:session): Failed to create session: No such process since that is the first error that shows up for NIS user id that do not show for local user id. after this error it then terminates with /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[26595]: Unable to run X server but everything looks to be permission related so if the system got user id and group id correctly things would probably work fine. But I have no idea why gdm3 gets different users than if I ssh into the machine. ** Affects: gdm3 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1883515 Title: Can not login with gdm3 when user cred is stored in NIS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1883515/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1709163] Re: default output changes from intel builtin to hdmi when display is turned off. yes off not on
The problem existed even before I upgraded to 17.10. but now I can not go back to that version. I think it started to happen when upgrading the kernel version. I thought that it would eventually be fixed but apparently I'm about the only one seeing this. What I do not understand is why it changes as the selected output is present all the time, and especially when I turn off a screen that has no audio associated with it. The monitor has no speakers. the only think I can think of is that the display subsystem is doing some reinit when I turn off the monitor and might remove the HDMI audio associated with the other monitor that still is on and then reinserting it. But why do pulse audio then switch over to that ?? is this some auto thing like if I put in headphones. the old GUI(unity) I could directly select sound config from the top icons. but now I have to first go to setting then sound so its even more work than before to get sound back. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1709163 Title: default output changes from intel builtin to hdmi when display is turned off. yes off not on To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1709163/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1605953] Re: skylake Modesetting Driver on X failure
well what settings is there ?? I have no xorg.conf I also deleted the .drirc file. still same. Now I have a bit of a hard time testing as I switched over to a AMD R9 card and installed amdgpu-pro package. Not sure I can just switch back to intel now and still have a working system. I know it did not work to switch back when I had a nvida card without reinstalling a lot of packages for intel again. [Bug 1605953] Re: skylake Modesetting Driver on X failure
yes it's the modsetting module that has the problem. should have mentioned that the log was from after I changed back to old drive. So the issue is when I run without any xorg.conf file and get the default. when I create a xorg.conf and load the intel driver it works. well I have other issues but this particular one is not present. What you should see is a somewhat flickering screen but the color should be a consistent orange hue. there should be no pulsing of colors that is more green then back to more red and so on then something is wrong. [Bug 1484932] [NEW] ipv6 dhcp client never started.
Public bug reported: I'm in a ipv6 network that sets ip number with dhcpv6 and not using the stateless protocol. but using ubuntu 15.04 there is never any dhclient started for ipv6 and no way to change any configuration that I can find to start it. if I attach the cable and then manually start dhclient with dhclient -6 -i eth3_109 I do get a ipv6 address and things works as intended. [Bug 1452250] [NEW] suspend/resume brooken on macbook pro hardware 11.2
Public bug reported: On ubuntu 15.04 with kernel 3.19.0-16 its not possible to out of the box do a suspend. if I disable XHC1 as wakeup source in /proc/acpi/wakeup it is now possible to suspend. echo XHC1 /proc/acpi/wakeup But now resume is problematic. When resuming its possible to get just a black screen. Resume is actually working but the backlightis not turned on. but since ubuntu now has turned on the screenlock it is not possible to use the buttons that controls the backlight to get the screen readable again. If I type my password in blindly (dont always work) I get back in the desktop and then I can use the keys that control the backlight and tus get a picture again. This is not very user friendly. 1. we need some way to control the backlight also when the screen is locked, this is very important turning on tha lock manualy also prevent the backlight key from working. 2. when resuming something needs to turn on the backlight 100% . [Bug 1445512] [NEW] journalctl not showing all content in the log.
Public bug reported: so the manual say this.. --- If called without parameters, it will show the full contents of the journal, starting with the oldest entry collected. --- This is not happening for me. if I do the following command journalctl | grep [program name] I get less output than if I do journalctl _COMM=[program name] My guess is that this is happening for the same reason that my previous bug where --list-boots did not work. Namely there seems to be a major problem when the log is corrupted and things behave inconsistently. journalctl --verify shows several corruptions but that should not make this type of inconsistent behavior. The systemd people have said repeatedly that there is no need for a repair tool and that systemd can handle corruptions just fine. Not my experience. Now the reason I get corruptions is probably due to unreliable suspend/resume where resume is not working an a power cycle is needed. This is not a uncommon thing suspend/resume just is not gong to be 100% and people are going to end up with journal that is corrupted. Note that the copy I get in syslog contain all the output I get when I run journalctl with the _COMM option. systemd journal handling needs to improve substantial so it can handle corruption better and at least be consistent with itself. [Bug 1443538] [NEW] mouse pointer invisible/disappears
Public bug reported: Only way to get it back is reboot. If I switch to another VT and run xinit -- :1 I have a mouse on that X server but still no on the original one. Also since xinit only starts a single xterm and when I type in that xterm the mouse pointer gets invisible until I move the mouse my guess is that the mouse is always invisible is a problem with the X server and not with say unity. I have a mac book pro using only the intel driver. Is there any command I can use to force the pointer to be visible again ?? this has happened several times now and is starting to be a real problem. I have been trying to understand what is happening here but I still don't get what the real problem is. where is the problem located?? could anyone that understand this please explain what it is that needs to be changed. I have several computers and having invites in a local calendar is completely non functional. and I have not found a way to get the invite into google calendar or even how to move it from one calendar to the other once its created. copy past just creates an empty one and there is no move option. Main problem for delays is actually the network. I do not understand this fix. autofs needs to wait for ypbind to be able to get the auto.master map file out of nis. So what is preventing autofs from starting before it can read out the auto.master file ? is the runlevel waiting on ypbind ?? [Bug 958704] [NEW] ubuntu 12.04 boot with nis(ypbind) autofs (nfs) not working.
Public bug reported: I upgraded a working 11.10 to 12.04 and now I no longer can login to the machine. Problem has been for several weeks now so it's obviously not a transient problem. What is happening is that I get no graphics login. lightdm starts I think but fails to present a login screen. changing the boot so that I boot into text mode instead reveals the following problems. Its takes a long time to get a login prompt and when it shows up it's possible to enter root user and password but then the login hangs for a few minutes before a bash prompt show up. after that its possible to see that autofs has not started so its impossible to login as a normal user. starting autofs with start autofs do not works unless I also restart ypbind at the same time as autofs waits for ypbind and do not understand that is is already started. after boot ypbind and autofs is restarted I can start lightdm and login to the system. Problem is this is a 5 minutes procedure for every boot. and no suspend do not work so that is not a workaround. Upstart is completely impossible to understand so I'm not sure what the problem really is. ** Affects: autofs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to autofs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/958704 Title: ubuntu 12.04 boot with nis(ypbind) autofs (nfs) not working. Since I have not run the program before I do not know exactly what to expect but the problem is behaving very similar to what skype does on my ubuntu 10.10 laptop where I also do not get any menu or popup.
