[Bug 309427] Re: Cannot copy between host and remote session
vinagre 0.5.1 Though I've noticed an interesting development: the bug is only present when using a clipboard manager such as glipper. Ubuntu doesn't have a native clipboard manager so something like glipper needs to be used. Without glipper, if you copy something from a program such as firefox, then close firefox, the clipboard is emptied so you have to re-open firefox, re-copy what you want, then switch apps, then paste, then switch back to firefox and close it... big pain, so until Ubuntu develops proper clipboard support, something like glipper is indeed necessary for proper daily use. So it seems vinagre isn't properly passing the clipboard info into glipper. -- Cannot copy between host and remote session https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/309427 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 251571] Re: Thunderbird's New Mail notification asterisks don't clear right away
That is actually different from the problem I was experiencing. On my TB, the asterisk would clear from a new message as soon as I read it, but the asterisk on the containing folder would remain even when there were no more new messages in said folder. (eg, Inbox would have the asterisk on it and be in bold, even after all the new messages were read). For what it's worth, I'm now using 2.0.0.18 and having no problems at all. Kayvee wrote: I think I have the same problem. And I don't know if it is a bug or if it is expected behavior... Here is what I noticed: When I get a new mail, a red asterisk appears next to the folder in which the new mail is put. When I click on that new mail to read, it gets marked as 'Read' but the asterisk does not disappear. However, it disappears once I click on any other email in the same folder or when I click on some other folder in the folder tree. -- Thunderbird's New Mail notification asterisks don't clear right away https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/251571 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 309427] [NEW] Cannot copy between host and remote session
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vinagre Copy/Paste doesn't seem to work properly. I'm not sure how to find the version of Vinagre I'm using (vinagre fails to output version information with -v or --version) 1) I open a remote desktop session 2) If I try to paste in the remote session, it pastes what is currently in my host clipboard. (NOT expected behavior!) 4) If I try to copy from the remote session and paste into my host system, it pastes the contents of the host clipboard. So far this behavior just indicates that Vinagre just plain doesn't support copying from the remote session, period - regardless of where it's being pasted, it seems Vinagre is just unable to access the remote clipboard at all. [Bug 257052] Re: glipper crashed with ImportError in module()
I've gotten sick and tired of Ibex being so crashy so I reverted back to 8.04 (when I say reverted, I mean I backed up my home dir, paved the partition, and installed a fresh 8.04). Glipper is doing the exact same thing for my hardy install - occasionally crashing on startup. It's 100% reliable that it WILL crash on the first login when the computer is started up. Once the first login has been done, I can log out, then log back in and most of the time it won't crash (though sometimes it will still crash). I don't think Gergely's theory holds water, since it's not a panel error, it's actually glipper crashing when it tries to start up. I think it's more likely that glipper has a dependency that isn't starting until after glipper itself. (Part of me wonders if this stems back to the libffi change, since I never had any glipper issues before 1.0-1ubuntu2 was rolled out to accommodate Ibex users) Is there a way to force apt to install the previous version instead, and to prevent apt from removing the previous version next time update- manager runs? -- glipper crashed with ImportError in module() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/257052 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 276611] [NEW] After updating to 8.10 alpha 5, system halts on boot-up until I press CTRL key (or any other key)
Public bug reported: Yesterday I updated to Intrepid Ibex 8.10 alpha 5 (from Hardy Heron 8.04 LTS) and ever since there's this very peculiar quirk. During boot up, you know how there's two phases during which you see the Ubuntu screen with the progress bar - in the first phase the progress bar just scoots back and forth, then in the second stage it turns into an actual progress bar, marching from left to right indicating how close it is to being done... Well during the first stage it just stops scooting and acts like it's hung. Nothing happens - I can leave it like that for half an hour and come back to it being in the exact same spot. Here's where it gets weird: if I press any key (even the CTRL or SHIFT keys) the progress indicator starts scooting back and forth, but as soon as I take my finger off the keyboard it stops again and doesn't budge until I put my finger back on it to nudge it along. It's like a stubborn child that doesn't want to go to school in the morning - just stands in one place until I nudge it along on its way. Once it gets to the second phase where the progress indicator starts filling up from left to right, I can take my fingers off of the keyboard and it'll continue on its merry way (I guess by that point it knows it's gonna have to go to school so begrudgingly it drags its heels, heh). I assume this is just a bug that will be fixed by the time 8.10 LTS comes out but I thought I'd bring it up in case any devs find the info useful, and (more to the point) just because it's so amusingly bizarre. ;) To be honest I kind of enjoy having it act that way - I like to think it might befuddle some miscreant blackhat trying to log into my system while I'm in the break-room ;) ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- After updating to 8.10 alpha 5, system halts on boot-up until I press CTRL key (or any other key) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/276611 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 271035] [NEW] Thunderbird stuck in maximized mode
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird Ok well not quite stuck in 'maximized' mode but I don't know how else to quickly describe the subject. I'm not sure why, but my thunderbird has lost its window decoration and along with it, the minimize/maximize/close buttons. All my other windows still have window decoration so I know it's not a problem with Emerald. I've rebooted and the bug is still present. If I hit alt-space and choose Unmaximize nothing happens, but then when I hit alt-space again the Unmaximize option has changed to Maximize. In the alt-space menu, if I choose Move or Resize nothing happens. The Minimize option minimizes the window, but it can't be moved, resized, or unmaximized... So as such, it takes up my whole screen and the only way I can minimize is with the alt-space context menu, and the only way I can close is with alt+f4 or by using the file menu. [Bug 258876] [NEW] Evolution Alarm Notification Disappears WAY WAY too soon!
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Hi, My problem is specific to the evolution alarm notification. When I set a calendar appointment in Evolution with an alarm, all I get for notification is a 5-second notification bubble and a tiny icon in my system tray. The tiny icon in my system tray is useless, as I keep my gnome-panels on auto-hide (as do many other people) making the system tray hidden. EVERY SINGLE calendar application I've ever used (on Windows AND on Mac) require the user to dismiss the notification bubble/pop-up before it goes away. The evolution notification pop-up always disappears after ONLY FIVE SECONDS, making it virtually useless unless I spend every waking minute in front of my screen so I can catch those 5-second windows of opportunity. I'm assuming this is a bug or a shortcoming in the Evolution code, since (as mentioned) EVERY SINGLE other calendar app for EVERY MAJOR OS requires the user to give the notification window permission to disappear. I can't imagine the Evolution developers would have made the conscious decision to build the code with such a shortcoming, so it must be a bug... Either a bug in the program or a bug in the development process ;) In any case, I'd like to extend the life of the notification pop-ups so that the Evolution calendar goes from useless to incredibly useful but I've tried looking everywhere and can't seem to make Evolution work properly. I've looked through all of the Evolution preferences and plugin options. I've looked through every option in gconf-editor - apps - evolution I've basically come to the conclusion that I'm going to have to edit the source code and recompile with custom source in order to achieve this BASIC function. (The problem there is that every time there's an evolution update, I'll have to re-edit and re-compile the source... But I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. For now I just want to get it working properly!) I've looked through the source code to try to find a constant or variable with a name like $notification_popup_timeout or $notification_bubble_expiry or anything along those lines but after combing through every line of the source code I still haven't found what I'm looking for. Can any Evolution dev's tell me where exactly I need to look in the source-code in order to change the constant/variable and make the notification popups stay on screen for, say, 5 seconds instead of just a measly 5 seconds? Or, even more ideally, here's a workaround I'd like to try: Evolution puts a tiny little icon in my hidden system tray. When I click that icon, it brings up a PROPER alert notification dialog (ie, it has a snooze function and it doesn't disappear unless I TELL IT to do so!) Can anyone explain how to make Evolution skip the tray-icon stage and just assume that I would have clicked on the tray icon immediately, thus presenting the proper (snooze-able) notification dialog right off the bat? Perhaps a 3rd-party app that monitors the system tray for a specified icon and then sends that icon a click command as soon as it notices its presence? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! Evolution is an AWESOME calendar application - WAY better than EVERY SINGLE calendar I've found on EVERY MAJOR OS - the only thing that makes it UTTERLY USELESS to me is the fact that the notification bubbles seem to give themselves permission to disappear instead of waiting for my confirmation. PS - I'm not sure whose idea it was to give the notification bubbles their own autonomy but we've all seen Tron so we all know the trouble that can come when programs are given permission to make their own decisions!!! ;) ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Evolution Alarm Notification Disappears WAY WAY too soon! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/258876 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 251571] Re: Thunderbird's New Mail notification asterisks don't clear right away
Retraction - the problem hasn't gone away. It seems it's just intermittent now. What seems to be the case is that if I have new unread messages that have been filtered into side-folders at the same tree level as the Inbox folder, the asterisks remain on the Inbox folder even after all unread messages have been read and their bold text style has been stripped to normal. If I ONLY have new unread messages in my Inbox folder, then the asterisk clears from the Inbox icon as soon as it clears from the message listing in the pane on the right.
