[Bug 1815788] Re: lshw exits with segmentation fault when commissioning a new node on maas

2019-02-20 Thread osprey
I've moved one of the nodes out of maas control and performed a fresh
install. The storage subsystem seems to be working fine (it's an old
plain sata I controller). The system is an old ibm X3455, older than
SGX, and the CPUs are AMD Opterons 2218.

However, I've tried with both the version that cames in full ubuntu
18.04.2 LTS and the one built from sources (cloned from git a couple of
hours ago) with the same segfault result.

root@sought-horse:/usr/src/lshw/src# ./lshw -version
B.02.18.89
root@sought-horse:/usr/src/lshw/src# ./lshw
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

and as with the maas ephemeral image, the same commands succeeds if I
run it with the -disable SCSI option.

[Bug 1815788] [NEW] lshw exits with segmentation fault when commissioning a new node on maas

2019-02-13 Thread osprey
Public bug reported:

Commissioning of new nodes on maas fails due to segfault in lshw, more
specifically in 00-maas-01-lshw step.
The log output is
/tmp/user_data.sh.9Xnacy/scripts/commissioning/00-maas-01-lshw: line 6: 2514
Segmentation fault sudo -n /usr/bin/lshw -xml

lshw exits with Segmentation fault even if launched directly from the
shell

ubuntu@model-seal:/var/crash$ sudo lshw
Segmentation fault
ubuntu@model-seal:/var/crash$

However the same command works correctly if launched with --disable SCSI
option

The environment is the ephemeral stage of maas 2.4 with ubuntu 18.04.2
LTS

I've tried with the package from Quantal, but I get exactly the same
behaviour, resetting the modem with atz several times leads the
connection to work with modem-manager. wvdial still works correctly
without any reset command needed.

[Bug 1006141] Re: nm-applet system tray drop-down menu items missing

2012-06-05 Thread osprey
It seems a bug like the #1005979,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-applet/+bug/1005979
With a slightly different scenario, but the same result. In my case also just
shutting down and powering on again the wireless cards resets the nm-applet.

[Bug 822479] Re: Massive Evolution Mail memory leak

2012-05-30 Thread osprey
Malte,
I know that it's an annoyance, but could you try the workaround I've used to
get evolution back working?
The memory leak is probably related to some obscure settings or something
messed up during updates.

I was affected by the problem on 11.04, but after cleaning up the
configuration files I was no more affected by this memory leak. Since
that time I've also upgraded to 11.10 and then to 12.04 without issues
related to evolution.

[Bug 1005979] [NEW] nm-applet menu entries missing when booting with network cable connected

2012-05-29 Thread osprey
Public bug reported:

When booting with network cable plugged in and the wireless switch in
the disabled position (hardware switch), the nm-applet is missing some
menu entries.

Normally it should display the wired network and the configured wired
connections. It should allow display the vpn entry if configured.
Instead only the following entries are available

Enable Networking (flagged)
Enable Wireless (disabled/grayied out)
Connection Information
Edit Connections...

I have multiple wired connections configured, so at least the nm-applet should
list them and allow me to choose from. Also, I could not connect to any
configured VPN as the menu entry is not displayied.
The network-manager connects to the last used autoconnect network, so the
networking is functional. The nm-appled correctly displays the wired network
connected symbol in the tray icon.

Chosing Edit connections the dialog lists all the configured connections
correctly.

Enabling the wireless card with the hardware switch causes the nm-applet
to display all the missing menu entries and allow to select the right
wired connection also.

Booting with the wireless enabled causes no problem. Also booting and
plugging the cable after the logon causes no issue.

[Bug 1005436] [NEW] can't connect with 3g internal modem using network-manager

2012-05-28 Thread osprey
Public bug reported:

I have an internal sierra 3g modem in my dell laptop

Manufacturer: Sierra Wireless, Inc.
Model: MC8790
Revision: K1_0_2_18AP C:/WS/FW/K1_0_2_18AP/MSM6290/SRC 2008/12/29 14:49:54

The network manager correctly detects the modem and seems to initialize it. but
when I try to connect it gives up saying NO CARRIER.

I tried with wvdial, and the modem works like a charm, so I tried to
track down where the problem is. Probably there is some AT command
missing somewere but without luck. The mess of layers between network-
manager, udev, modem-manager screwed me up, also because modem-manager
is completely undocumented and seems to don't have any configuration
file. Also, I could not find anywhere how to manually set options in the
system connections for network manager.

But triying to debug the situation I discovered that opening a minicom
session to the modem command port and simply entering a reset (ATZ)
solves the issue and after that the network manager connects
successfully.

Maybe someone help in finding a solution for this problem?

The software versions are

ii modemmanager 0.5.2.0-0ubunt D-Bus service for managing modems
ii network-manage 0.9.4.0-0ubunt network management framework (daemon and use

** Description changed:

When connecting to a dav share in nautilus, it asks the password, but then
the gvfsd-dav component crashes with signal 11. The spinner in nautilus never
ends but nautilus itself does not crash, it still allow to work on normal
directories.
Also, ubuntu-bug fails to create the bug report. I'll try to manually attach
the files.

This is a fresh install of a 12.04 on i386 architecture.

[Bug 995037] Re: ubuntu-bug does not start firefox, so unable to report a bug

2012-05-05 Thread osprey
Same behaviour trying to report a bug on gvfs.
Application crashes, ubuntu-bug shows the dialog with details to fill the bug,
but clicking on continue just closes the window. No broweser window is opened.
The files in /var/crash are created correctly.

[Bug 994006] Re: can't connect to webdav shares

2012-05-03 Thread osprey
It seems that neither ubuntu-bug nor apport-cli are able to send out the
bug data. They simpli exits after trying to send the data without
actually filing a new bug. I've attached the .crash file manually.

second time. The first suspend to ram cycle works correctly. The second

[Bug 939292] [NEW] Intel wireless iwl4965 does not works after suspend to ram

2012-02-22 Thread osprey
Public bug reported:

I've noticed that sometimes (not always) the driver for iwl4965 wireless card
does not resume correctly after a suspend to ram.
Performing a scan for available networks reports a reduced set of networks. The
card can correctly associate and work with the reported networks, but not all
the present networks are reported and available for connection.
Manually unloading and reloading the kernel module solve the problem.

In the dmesg log I've found the following entries
[23365.055794] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready
[23365.058255] tg3 :09:00.0: irq 45 for MSI/MSI-X
[23365.125807] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready
[23418.455165] iwl4965 :0c:00.0: Error sending TX power (-5)

The error can't be reproduced in a constant way. Sometimes it works,
sometimes not, or at least I still have not found if there is a trigger
for this problem.

[Bug 879881] Re: crossfire-server segfault on startup

2011-10-22 Thread osprey
It seems that the problem is related to a missing file
/var/games/crossfire/accounts.

Here is the output of strace when running crossfire-server

munmap(0xb785a000, 4096)= 0
open(/var/games/crossfire/accounts, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or
directory)
time(NULL) = 1319286235
stat64(/etc/localtime, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=2652, ...}) = 0
--- SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) @ 0 (0) ---
+++ killed by SIGSEGV +++
Segmentation fault

Just touching the file solves the problem. I think that the creation of
that file should be included in the installation process.

[Bug 874030] Re: package libc6 2.13-0ubuntu13 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: package libc6 is already installed and configured

2011-10-16 Thread osprey
This is something weird. I installed this machine around a month ago with a
clean install of ubuntu 11.04. (via network install as this laptop does not
have a cdrom)
The only third party software installed is an application to manage a hdspa usb
modem, but I've checked in the software package (tar.gz) and there is no libc
included.

I've then tried to upgrade the to 11.10 using the graphical update manager. The
first try failed due to problem with the italian mirrror (the connection got
dropped several times). I switched to another mirror and tried again and got a
popup saying that the installation of libc have failed.
So I let the installation complete and then tried to reinstall the libc by
hand, getting the error stated in the log below.
I can't track down from where the older libc come. Even the 11.04 release
contained the 2.13 version of libc, so I can't explain how a 2.12 version was
present on the system during the upgrade.

I totally missed the old release number while I tried to debug the
problem, so in any case this seems to be a isolated weird case and not a
bug in the installer

[Bug 874030] Re: package libc6 2.13-0ubuntu13 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: package libc6 is already installed and configured

2011-10-14 Thread osprey
The libc6 package was not successfully upgraded during the distribution upgrade
process.
Rerunning the install by hand using the command
apt-get install --reinstall libc6
turned out that the upgrade failed because another copy of the libc was found
in place

A copy of the C library was found in an unexpected directory:
  '/lib/libc-2.12.1.so.back'
It is not safe to upgrade the C library in this situation;
please remove that copy of the C library or get it out of
'/lib' and try again.

so I had to move the followin files out of /lib

libc-2.12.1.so
libdl-2.12.1.so
libm-2.12.1.so
libpthread-2.12.1.so
librt-2.12.1.so

after that I successfully ran the reinstall command which also performed the
following tasks
(Reading database ... 246367 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace libc6 2.13-0ubuntu13 (using
.../libc6_2.13-20ubuntu5_i386.deb) ...

Setting up g++-4.5 (4.5.3-9ubuntu1) ...

After that I restarted the machine and it worked without problem

[Bug 822479] Re: Massive Evolution Mail memory leak

2011-08-13 Thread osprey
Some addition to the bug scenario:
I've fresh installed ubuntu 11.04 on a new laptop, then I backed up all my
evolution data from the old laptop and imported the backup onto the new one.
After that operation evolution on the new laptop started to eat up ram in
horrible way, taking around 100MB of memory for each message opened, and never
freeing memory.
So I've cleaned the configuration files of evolution and the locally downloaded
mails. After this step evolution seems to does not eat up memory by simply
opening messages.
Before the operation it was leaking about 100MB of memory for each message
opened.
The removed files to clean up config and downloaded messages are
~/.evolution
~/.local/share/evolution
~/.config/evolution

The memory leak could be related to the big quantity of locally stored messages
(around 2Gb), or with a setting coming from the old setup that triggered a bug
in evolution.
Is there a way to test whatever setting caused the issue?

[Bug 822479] Re: Massive Evolution Mail memory leak

2011-08-11 Thread osprey
I confirm, the beheaviour. With a fresh installed 11.04 ubuntu and unity
evolution is taking more and more ram as messages are loaded. I can
clearly see the increase of memory usage when I read a mail or change
tabs around in the application.

[Bug 194323] [NEW] problem with do-release-upgrade from 7.04 to 7.10 (using self compiled kernel)

2008-03-07 Thread osprey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager-core

I tried to upgrade from ubuntu 7.04 to ubuntu 7.10 with no luck. This
system is a guest vm for xen, so I'm using a custom kernel, and the
kernel name seems to broke something in the upgrade script. (or at
least, the last error is about the kernel name)

some info:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# uname -a
Linux login1 2.6.18-xen #4 SMP Thu May 3 23:53:46 CEST 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# dpkg -l update-manager-core
ii update-manager-core 0.59.25 manage release
upgrades

I also run a apt-get update ; apt-get upgrade befor trying to upgrade
the release.

here the logs:

console message:
A fatal error occured
