[Bug 1844739] Re: Latest Firefox update freezing my system
Thank you for looking at it @seb 128, as I mentioned above, I initiated the oom when my browser and the system are completely freezing. It is happening only when using Firefox (last 2 versions). it feels like a process within the browser just go wild suddenly and cousin the freeze. There is a major improvement in the last update but still going on randomly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1844739 Title: Latest Firefox update freezing my system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1844739/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1844739] Re: Latest Firefox update freezing my system
Yes, freeze from time to time and the all system freezing with it. alt+f+prinscreen (oom killer) or hard reboot are the only options to go back from it. Hello @Oliver Tilloy(osomon), The good news are that I can at least use the browser most of the time but not all the time... I'm adding log messages. I initiated oom to kill the processes instead of hard booting. I hope it will help you to see what's happening. [Bug 1844739] Re: Latest Firefox update freezing my system
I did all those things before I even desperately called for help. safe mode, refresh, new profile and so on. the only change in safe mode was faster start-up. and then the freeze again. Now I did downgrade as you suggested - was much better then I updateD again ( update-manager was nagging me -:) ) . Today the 70th version came up and so far for few hours I have my beloved Firefox and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS back to normal. Hopefully ...Is it OK to wait few days more before closing it, to be sure all is really well? [Bug 1844739] Re: Latest Firefox update freezing my system
@Oliver Tilloy (osomon): What I mean when I say "renders my machine useless" - the system is freezing. I have to hard boot it after a short time with only the home page of Firefox open. as long as I'm not starting Firefox - the system is working without any issues at all. for your question about updating, Yes I did.Unfortunately it didn't change the situation for me. I already tried the usual stuff - refreshed the browser, created a new profile but didn't help. This is my first time ever I face such a strange unsolvable issue in Firefox.I have Ubuntu 16.04 (dual boot} And now I just forced to use it on a daily basis . if it was an hardware issue that could surface in the other system as well I believe. Thanks for looking at it. [Bug 755029] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2+] Screen Corruption
I got hte same issue with the official natty drivers. But even also with xorg-edgers ppa. Current packages here: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.15.0+git20110714.212fa986-0ubuntu0sarvatt~natty linux-image-3.0.0-5 I'm using gnome-shell, but happens also on unity and metacity (non accelerated). The behavior degrades with time, but restarting desktop removes most of corruptions with exception of some images that may be cached and get corrupted. With a specific xorg-edgers ppa version: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.15.0+git20110605.bdb396a4-0ubuntu0sarvatt~natty and adding this configuration in xorg.conf: Section Device Identifier Intel gpu Driver intel Option Shadow true Option RelaxedFencing false EndSection I got almost stable behavior even with gnome-shell. Corruption would happend far later, if any. But in recent packages even this configuration doesn't help (and the old package got removed from my apt cache, so I lost my stable configuration). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/755029 Title: [sandybridge-m-gt2+] Screen Corruption To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/755029/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 499175] Re: ath5k phy0: noise floor calibration failed
Hi, nice to meet you. I will try loading the modules. I have had a reduction in error messages by blacklisting ath5k and ath9k, and then loading the ath5k module after the desktop installs, using modprobe. After loading the module I get between 2 and 5 or so, error messages but that's it. [versus the multitude, or continuous] When I included ath5k in /etc/modules following the blacklisting I got less error messages, but not as few as the delayed loading. Ath9k doesnt seem to help, and the network transfer rates, however, I load it, are very slow. Similar results, by the way, using the debian 30-2 kernel, except 3x messages whatever I did. -markw Leann Ogasawara wrote: Hi paz now, I've condensed the title of the bug report to be more readable. 2nd report re: [Bug 499175] Re: ath5k phy0: noise floor calibration failed
LO - With and without the pea kernel, using the backport modules, I got slower transfer rate speeds, as reported by software during downloads, and notification of kernel errors on the desktop - which I didnt forward using the bug report software. These kernel 'crash' errors occurred when booting with either karmic kernel. If your not needing any more information, I think I will remove the backport modules and cope with the alternate module loading for a while. -mw Leann Ogasawara wrote: Hi paz now, I've condensed the title of the bug report to be more readable. [Bug 435808] Re: ath5k phy0: noise floor calibration *failed* (not *timeout*)
I think I fixed the problem of the repeating message that appears in dmesg tail - ath5k noise floor calibration failed on my system. I am using kernel 2.6.31-16-generic. I blacklisted ath5k and ath9k then listed ath5k in /etc/modules. hope this helps. -- ath5k phy0: noise floor calibration *failed* (not *timeout*) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/435808 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 63299] Re: rebuild apt with noopt option fails
I removed the pragma lines and it works. Anyway, if we read from Gcc doc here: http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/C_002b_002b-Interface.html We can know this: `#pragma implementation' and `#pragma interface' also have an effect on function inlining. If you define a class in a header file marked with `#pragma interface', the effect on an inline function defined in that class is similar to an explicit extern declaration—the compiler emits no code at all to define an independent version of the function. Its definition is used only for inlining with its callers. -O0 removes the semantics of inline, then it may be it's not generating any implementation :m. -- rebuild apt with noopt option fails https://launchpad.net/bugs/63299 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 67935] Interface lo does not wake up in edgy
Public bug reported: When I start up edgy, localhost network interface is not enabled. If I do: # ifconfig The interface lo is not there (if I check all interfaces it's there anyway). It seems there's a problem related to the fact that network interfaces are enabled before mounting the machine partitions. As I've got the /var in another partition, it's not mounted yet.
