[Bug 465833] [NEW] quickly should suggest devscripts
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: quickly The quickly share command (and likely release) depend on devscripts being installed. It would be good to have this suggested on install. I don't think installing by default is the best idea for this by the way, due to the fact it needs to pull in postfix and bunch of other things that are likely not needed by most standard programmers. I was able to work around this issue by disabling WPA authentication, so only WPA2 authentication was offered. Then network manager was able to connect without issues. This behaviour is seen on a 2701HGV-W Gateway router, which is one offered with some Telstra ADSL packages. Currently, the default set up for these routers will essentially prevent any linux computer from connecting wirelessly. [Bug 458054] [NEW] dvd playback does not play the dialog audio track
Public bug reported: Using VLC and totem, DVD playback does not actually play the dialog tracks for the selected language... I can hear the background sounds and ambient sounds, but no direct speaking. Using Mplayer however, audio plays normal and i can hear dialogue. I noticed MPlayer uses the FFmpeg backend, while both VLC and totem use gstreamer, so it is potentially related to the gstreamer backend. libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.10 for DVD access libdvdnav: Using dvdnav version 4.1.3 libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.10 for DVD access libdvdnav: DVD Title: STEPFORD_WIVES libdvdnav: DVD Serial Number: 3139a3cf libdvdnav: DVD Title (Alternative): libdvdnav: Unable to find map file '/home/insanity/.dvdnav/STEPFORD_WIVES.map' libdvdnav: DVD disk reports itself with Region mask 0x00f5. [Bug 428309] [NEW] RAOP devices are not recognised
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio I'm attempting to make my airport express automatically recognised by pulseaudio but am failing miserably. I can do the following things: - ping the device and receive a response - see the mDNS broadcast messages through avahi-browse and avahi-discover. The protocol is listed as _raop._tcp - manually load the module-raop-sink and point it at the airport express (load-module module-raop-sink server=192.168.40.250) - stream music to the manually loaded sink I cannot however find any way of getting the module-raop-discover module to do it's job and automatically detect and connect to this. I'm assuming this is a bug simply because I can find and confirm every point is working up until module-raop-discover *should* be creating the module-raop-sink's for me... avahi-discover shows: Service Type: _raop._tcp Service Name: 0014516a3...@asylumnode Domain Name: local Interface: eth0 IPv4 Address: AsylumNode.local/192.168.40.250:500 avahi-browse shows: = eth0 IPv4 0014516a3...@asylumnode AirTunes Remote Audio local hostname = [AsylumNode.local] address = [192.168.40.250] port = [5000] txt = [tp=TCP,UDP sm=false sv=false ek=1 et=0,1 cn=0,1 ch=2 ss=16 sr=44100 pw=false vn=3 txtvers=1] ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: insanity 21916 F pulseaudio Card0.Amixer.info: Card hw:0 'Intel'/'HDA Intel at 0xfc10 irq 22' Mixer name : 'Realtek ALC888' Components : 'HDA:10ec0888,1458e601,0011' Controls : 41 Simple ctrls : 23 CheckboxSubmission: caa155f54c0f4362405eca2142b98252 CheckboxSystem: 9038dc5b445882e24b06ebe5cf05c9fc Date: Sat Sep 12 18:29:26 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Package: pulseaudio-module-raop 1:0.9.16-0ubuntu1 ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-10.32-generic SourcePackage: pulseaudio Uname: Linux 2.6.31-10-generic x86_64 ** Affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug -- RAOP devices are not recognised https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/428309 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 353471] Re: Unable to install or upgrade packages using synaptic or update-manager
I'm now suspecting that perhaps this is related to the fact that I previously had etckeeper installed. It got removed during the upgrade process, and left some configuration files behind that appeared to have been causing hassles. I'll give this a few more upgrades, and if it now works, I'll close this bug. ** Changed in: synaptic (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- Unable to install or upgrade packages using synaptic or update-manager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/353471 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 353471] Re: Unable to install or upgrade packages using synaptic or update-manager
Ok... I can confirm that old etckeeper configs was what was causing this bug. To troubleshoot this I ran apt-config dump on a working computer, and a broken computer, and noticed a whole bunch of lines that were different. I noticed that etckeeper has lines in the apt-config on the broken computer. I checked in the install status (aptitude search etckeeper) and saw that only the configs were left behind. I then purged these (sudo aptitude purge etckeeper). I've now successfully upgraded and downgraded several packages, using both Synaptic and the Update Manager. -- Unable to install or upgrade packages using synaptic or update-manager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/353471 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 353471] Re: Unable to install or upgrade packages using synaptic or update-manager
The bug is in synaptic. I've investigated and confirmed that update- manager simply calls synaptic eventually. I've also downloaded the synaptic source (apt-get source synaptic), and compiled (./configure make). The produced synaptic binary (gtk/synaptic) did not exhibit this issue, but the debian-produced binary (debian/synaptic/usr/sbin/synaptic) does. Basically, any selections made using synaptic do not seem to be properly installed. I can select, and then click the apply button, and then screen displayed while installing should be shown flashes up very briefly, before I'm returned back to the main synaptic window, with no new packages being installed. ** Changed in: update-manager Status: New = Invalid -- Unable to install or upgrade packages using synaptic or update-manager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/353471 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Prior to installing the backports package, any attempts to connect using NetworkManager would end up spamming the debug logs with the following (1 every few seconds): Mar 24 08:05:38 mach4 kernel: [ 851.021878] wlan0: authenticate with AP 00:0f:b5:e7:6f:96 Mar 24 08:05:38 mach4 kernel: [ 851.021895] wlan0: authenticated Mar 24 08:05:38 mach4 kernel: [ 851.021901] wlan0: associate with AP 00:0f:b5:e7:6f:96 Mar 24 08:05:38 mach4 kernel: [ 851.027643] wlan0: RX ReassocResp from 00:0f:b5:e7:6f:96 (capab=0x431 status=0 aid=1) Mar 24 08:05:38 mach4 kernel: [ 851.027649] wlan0: associated Mar 24 08:05:38 mach4 kernel: [ 851.030674] wlan0: disassociating by local choice (reason=3) I then tried with wpa_supplicant, but that displayed the following errors during logging, and would keep disconnecting itself: ioctl[SIOCSIWENCODEEXT]: No such file or directory Driver did not support SIOCSIWENCODEEXT After browsing around a bit through some other bugs, I decided to try installing the backport-modules package, which ended up fixing the problem. [Bug 345617] [NEW] Should be able to select a partition by clicking on the coloured bar showing drive partitions
Public bug reported: Had a thought while installing Jaunty that I was continually wishing I could select the partition info by clicking on the coloured bar showing all the partitions at the top of the Ubuntu Jaunty Alpha 6 installer. Currently to target one of the displayed partitions, I need to match the colour to the label (as the labels are not aligned even remotely with the coloured bars), then match the label to the list of partitions in the box below. It would be nice to be able to double click, or click on the partition to bring up the relevant information. Public bug reported: The wifi security password screen shown when attempting to connect to a secured wireless network should have the focus on the password box by default. [Bug 112703] Re: tomboy sometimes starts with search dialog rather than as minimized applet
I can confirm that this problem seems to exhibit itself when the Tomboy program finishes loading before the gnome-panel does. This happens somewhat at random depending on how under load the start up session currently is. The more programs being loaded and tasks being performed, the more likely the search dialog is to appear. The other side effect is that closing this window causes the tomboy instance to shutdown in the notification area as well. Re-opening tomboy again (e.g., alt+f2 and just doing 'tomboy' again) makes the instance correctly load up and minimize to the notification area upon close. As a work around, I have made a quick shell script to delay the starting of tomboy by about 10s on start up. I've attached the startup script for the lazy. It's contents are very simple: #!/bin/sh sleep $1 shift exec $@ The script needs to be made executable, and then I simply put the command in session as: /path/to/delay/file/delay 5 /usr/bin/tomboy The first argument is the delay required, and the rest of the command line is then passed to the exec process. ** Attachment added: Short delay script http://launchpadlibrarian.net/22998213/delay -- tomboy sometimes starts with search dialog rather than as minimized applet https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/112703 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 193578] Re: Scrolling Firefox interrupts Rhythmbox audio
I can get this same reaction by scrolling in rhythmbox itself. I think firefox is just incidentally related. I see the same as a previous poster, scrolling using either the mouse wheel or holding the scroll up/down buttons (so it jumps a few rows) causes play back to hang and Xorg process (/usr/X11R6/binX :0 -br -audit 0 -auth /var/lib/gdm/:0.Xauth vt7) to spike very high in cpu usage. Playback resumes after this goes back down. I currently have 2Gb ram, but only about 250mb free in ram, and using 1.2Gb of swap with 9Gb free. Also running a virtual machine (Virtualbox'ed WindowsXP) which is chewing up quite a bit of cpu. [Bug 290647] Re: gconfd does not refresh cache when sudo-ing current user to modify setting
Yes, I agree this isn't a bug so much as a feature change... A workaround as recommended upstream is to export the DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS with the sudo command, i.e., sudo -u $USER DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS=$DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS command In the case that one is running a script that doesn't *have* the right DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS variable, it can be retrieved for an arbitrary user with the following snippet: DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS=$(sudo -u $USER dbus-launch --autolaunch=`cat /var/lib/dbus/machine-id` | grep BUS_ADDRESS | cut -d '=' -f 2-) -- gconfd does not refresh cache when sudo-ing current user to modify setting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290647 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 290647] Re: gconfd does not refresh cache when sudo-ing current user to modify setting
The aforementioned workaround needs to have an appropriate XAUTHORITY environment variable defined. To sudo without doing this (e.g., from a command line process), try something like the following: # assumes the $USER and $HOME directories are defined somehow DBUS_SESSION=$(grep -v ^# $HOME/.dbus/session-bus/`cat /var/lib/dbus/machine-id`-0) sudo -u $USER $DBUS_SESSION gconftool-2 --type string --set /system/proxy/mode manual -- gconfd does not refresh cache when sudo-ing current user to modify setting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290647 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 289682] Re: Nautilus displays that there no applications found to read photos from removable media
Hi Sebastien, I entirely forgot to add those details, my apologies. This is on Intrepid beta, using nautilus 2.24.1-0ubuntu1. This issue does not affect a guest user or a newly created user. I upgraded from Hardy to Intrepid, so this appears to be a migration/upgrade specific issue of sorts. -- Nautilus displays that there no applications found to read photos from removable media https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289682 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 289682] Re: Nautilus displays that there no applications found to read photos from removable media
Bingo. There is a runaway shortcut to the F-Spot Photo Manager in ~/.local/share/applications/f-spot-import.desktop. Removing this fixed the prompt. I don't know where the .desktop file came from... that is a mystery, but not one related to this bug report. -- Nautilus displays that there no applications found to read photos from removable media https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289682 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 289682] [NEW] Nautilus displays that there no applications found to read photos from removable media
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus For some reason my nautilus displays that there are no applications found to handle photos on the Media tab of the preferences dialog. See attached screenshot. This means that when a new SD card is inserted for example, I can't do any actions (including browse) from the dialog that is popped up. [Bug 276482] Re: ipw2200 - Network manager fails to get network address dhcp
This has also happened to one of my machines running Ubuntu Hardy. I have the backports repo enabled. It occured when upgrading from linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-19 = linux- ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-21 . My network log shows the same activity as yours did, i.e., seems to associate fine, and makes several DHCPREQUEST's before eventually giving up. This ONLY occurs when attempting to connect to a WEP enabled connection (haven't tried WPA), and happens every time. If I disable security, the connection performs fine however... This may possibly be related to bug #260664 and bug #258344 If I force grub to boot the linux-kernel-2.6.24-19 version there are no issues with wireless -- ipw2200 - Network manager fails to get network address dhcp https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/276482 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 276482] Re: ipw2200 - Network manager fails to get network address dhcp
Quick update, I just figured out a fix from reading the threads on those previously defined bugs. On Hardy, it seems that installing both linux-ubuntu- modules-2.6.24-21-generic and linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-21-386 restores something to its proper location. I fixed this on hardy by doing the following: sudo apt-get install linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-21-generic linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-21-386 Then the encryption stuff all worked fine. A strange bug indeed. -- ipw2200 - Network manager fails to get network address dhcp https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/276482 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 287331] [NEW] pidgin on intrepid freezes frequently while chatting to offline msn user
