[Bug 1364037] Re: Juju expects a public address for all machines maybe insecure

2019-09-16 Thread santhosh
Hi this is santhosh,

ran into same kind of issue. when i specify a particular vpc-id ( it is
not default so i did vpc-id-force). it bootstraps controller in that vpc
and was loosing/cannot connect to the api after that. BELOW IS THE
BOOTSTRAP COMMAND I GAVE:

ubuntu@x86inst-1a:~$ juju bootstrap --config "vpc-id=vpc-08b1e3735cf3"
--config "vpc-id-force=true" aws test

it gives the error as below:

ERROR unable to contact api server after 1 attempts: unable to connect
to API: dial tcp 172.86.1.14:17070: connect: connection refused

*IF IT CAN REACH THE VPC AND CAN BOOTSTRAP CONTROLLER IN PARTICULAR VPC, WHY IS
IT UNABLE TO REACH OR RUNNING INTO API ERROR(17070) AFTER BOOTSTRAP.
*WHY DID JUJU EXPECT IT TO BE PUBLIC, IF I GIVE VPC AS PARAMETER WHY CAN'T IT
ACCEPT WHAT SHOULD I DO TO MAKE IT ACCEPT BUT NEED IT TO BE PRIVATE AS FOR THE
SECURITY CONCERNS.

This is not fixed. Just the ttf-indic-fonts package removed without
alternatives. All indic languages broken now - no fonts at all. Some
scripts falls back to FreeSans and it is horribly broken old version.
Please re-open and fix immediately.

[Bug 958345] Re: ttf-indic-fonts packages are outdated should be removed

2016-02-19 Thread Santhosh Thottingal
It does.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Get Ubuntu 15.10 Image and boot it. (I used virtualbox)
2. Once you get the desktop go to
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-indic-fonts-core - Remember this was not
additionally or explicitly installed. It came by default with OS.
3. You will see the years old fonts installed there as shown in screenshot
attached. Some of these fonts are even abandoned by developers.
4. The impact: After ubuntu installed, not installing any extra packages,
without any extra customization, the indic language rendering the user get is
crappy. Majority of users are going to use ubuntu as such without bothering or
not knowing customization and package management.

Since I am a developer of some of these fonts, I get this question every
week from users- "Why am I seeing the crappy fonts in Ubuntu?"

Please please fix this before 16.04

[Bug 958345] Re: ttf-indic-fonts packages are outdated should be removed

2016-02-18 Thread Santhosh Thottingal
> Santhosh - you should uninstall ttf-indic-fonts-core and install the

Yeah, that is what we are asking - please remove it from ubuntu
installer so that the users get correct fonts. After installing Ubuntu,
people get fonts from ttf-indic-fonts-core package. Those fonts are
outdated - in fact many years old. Asking every user of Ubuntu to
uninstall that package and install fonts-* package is not the solution I
expect here.

Either update ttf-indic-fonts-core package to latest version or use new
package in ubuntu installer.

15.10 Also contains old(actually 6+ years old) fonts in ttf-indic-fonts-
core package. Please update it. Because of this default installation of
ubuntu is not giving correct rendering for Malayalam and hence all
Ubuntu Malayalam users are affected

[Bug 958345] Re: ttf-indic-fonts packages is not updated for last 2 years

2014-01-17 Thread Santhosh Thottingal
For Malayalam Lohit would be the bad choice because it is the least
popular font for Malayalam among all other available fonts. It follows a
reduced set orthography. Consistent glyphs with other Indic fonts is the
main drawback of that font and its less popularity. All Indic scripts
vary a lot and one design for all was not successful so far.

If size is a concern, you may split the fonts-smc package to fonts-smc-
meera etc as Fedora does(https://apps.fedoraproject.org/packages/smc-
meera-fonts)

[Bug 958345] [NEW] Update ttf-indic-fonts package

2012-03-17 Thread Santhosh Thottingal
Public bug reported:

The Debian fonts team recently restructured the indic fonts. ttf-indic-fonts
changed to fonts-indic. This is meta package and all packages
ttf-[language]-fonts renamed to fonts-[script/foundry]. In addition to this all
fonts were updated to latest versions from upstreams.
I request ubuntu maintainers to update the fonts to latest versions and
consider following the debian package naming changes for fonts.

[Bug 515607] Re: Unicode 5.1 compatible fonts for Malayalam not available

2010-02-06 Thread Santhosh Thottingal
The reason why developers are not including the new characters and
encoding changes are explained in the bug report :
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=484536 . Note that just
adding these 'chillu characters will not make the font unicode 5.1 or
5.2 compliant. There are few other changes also in unicode 5.1. Font
developers from the community are not interested in incorporating these
controversial changes.

But the ubuntu package for ttf-indic-fonts requires updates since there
were new releases of this package during August 2009. Current debian
version is 0.5.6 (http://packages.debian.org/sid/ttf-indic-fonts)

[Bug 453775] [NEW] [ml_IN]Wrong Malayalam Translations from rosetta.

2009-10-17 Thread Santhosh Thottingal
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: language-pack-gnome-ml

There was a bug reported to remove rosetta translation from gnome language pack
for Ubuntu :
Refer:https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/language-pack-gnome-ml/+bug/368387
Still in 9.10 we see gnome translations are overridden by wrong and obsolete
translations from rosetta.

The gnome l10n is done by Swathanthra Malayalam Computing
community(http://smc.org.in) and works closely with gnome upstream. This
community does not contribute to rosetta since it is duplication of
effort and does not want the work to be BSD
licensed[http://tweetphoto.com/813iww]. While every other distro use
gnome upstream translations, ubuntu override it with very old and wrong
rosetta translations. This make the Malayalam desktop of ubuntu very
bad.

Expected result: Don't override gnome translations with rosetta
translations

[Bug 371543] [NEW] Openoffice uses old version of libicu

2009-05-04 Thread Santhosh Thottingal
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Description:
Openoffice 3.0.1 in ubuntu 9.04 uses old version of ICU library(libicu) and
this causes wrong rendering of langauges, particularly Malayalam(ml_IN)

Details:
Version of libicu in jaunty : 3.8-5 (
http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/openoffice.org-core )
Version of libicu in karmic : 3.8-5
(http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/openoffice.org-core)
Version of libicu in Debian testing: 4.0
(http://packages.debian.org/testing/openoffice.org-core)
libicu 4.0 has the fix for this ticket:
http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/ticket/6108 to fix a Malayalam rendering
problem

Since it is not included jaunty or karmic, Malayalam rendering is wrong
in Ubuntu 9.04

Expected:
Use libicu 4.0 version

How to reproduce:
Always reproducible
1. launch open office writer in ubuntu 9.04, and paste this text: അതു് .
2. Compare the rendering in gedit or browser or compare the redering with
Openoffice in Debian testing

[Bug 368387] [NEW] Obsolete Malayalam translations

2009-04-27 Thread Santhosh Thottingal
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: language-pack-gnome-ml

Problem:
---
The gnome translations in this package is very old and wrong. It differs a lot
from the upstream GNOME translations. Rosetta translations are not reviewed and
not correct. Please take the translations from upstream or debian package.

Examples:
-
In 'Places' menu, 'Computer' is translated as CNET Computers.Com. But in
upstream translations it is correct
In Places menu, Network is translated as ചെമന്ന് തൊപ്പിശൃംഖല(meaning Red Hat
Network)
The 'Applications' in GNOME main menu is translated as പ്രയോഗങ്ങള് which has
spelling mistake
The Systems menu is വ്യൂഹവിളികള് -wrong translation with spelling mistakes.

Many wrong translations present in gnome applications too. Either because
ubuntu packaged very old translations or took translations from Rosetta instrad
of Upstream
All these are correctly translated in GNOME upstream

Since main GNOME menu itself has lot of spelling mistakes and wrong
translations, the ml_IN interface of GNOME in Ubuntu is useless

Ubuntu Version: 9.04

Expected Result
-
Package using translations from GNOME upstream translations
