[Bug 2065499] [NEW] [UX430UAR, Realtek ALC294, Speaker, Internal] fails after a while

2024-05-11 Thread Vikram John
Public bug reported:

The sound fades off after initially playing for about 2s. In Firefox, sometimes
if I pause a Youtube video, switch between applications, and then return to
Firefox, the same things repeats. The sound plays for 2s and then stops. In
Rhythmbox, after it stops, the sound doesn't play again. The initial response
after the first time I ran "ubuntu-bug audio" was:
Not loading module "atk-bridge": The functionality is provided by GTK natively.
Please try to not load it.

After this message, I executed:
sudo apt purge libatk-adaptor
sudo reboot

But the problem recurs and now, I don't get the message about the atk-
bridge module.

** Tags added: trusty

** Description changed:

I have installed the jacksum utility for computing checksum hashes.

But the jacksum -h option is unable to work since it is not able to
  locate the file "help_en.txt"

I seem to remember it used to work on 12.04 and 15.04/10.

Kindly rebuild the package including the help_en.tx file which helps in
find info on using a certain parameter faster.

Earlier I could query the jacksum utility on using some command line
  argument.

  e.g.:
  $ jacksum -h -a md5

Which would tell me about on using the -a option explicitly about the md5
hashing algorithm.

[Bug 1168849] Re: crashes while reporting a Synaptics bug - fills up /tmp

2013-06-16 Thread Vikram Ambrose
This bug still exists in the latest 13.04. I see 4 python instances and
when a program crashes apport fills up /tmp.

When /tmp fills up everything else on the system slowly stops working.

Latest 13.04 as of today is 3.8.0-25-generic

[Bug 1066108] Re: Photo taken by the webcam as part of the account creation process repeatedly uploaded to Gmail as icon.

2012-10-12 Thread Vikram Dhillon
If I may add to this, the picture uploaded to gmail is whatever your
account picture is set to. It's not necessarily what you have taken from
the webcam, it can be one of the default ones you can pick. I have seen
this in the past for a number of people. This is most likely because of
integrating some of the services locally to pidgin or empathy. Let me
dig around a little more and I will traige this bug appropiately.

[Bug 578693] Re: Natbib version not compatible with revtex4-1 from texlive-publishers

2012-09-29 Thread Vikram Jadhao
The following worked for me. I am on 12.04 LTS.

1. If you have texlive-publishers installed, remove it. (This step is
necessary as otherwise it won't let you do step 3).

2. Follow the steps in this link:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9097651postcount=4

3. Get and install the texlive-publishers package using this link:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/texlive-
extra/+bug/575812/comments/2

This resolves the affiliation bug. In addition, it also defaults to urls
not being displayed with the bibtex in the references.

[Bug 424272] Re: Mail Filtering tutorial doesn't result in correct group memberships to allow ClamAV to scan messages

2012-02-04 Thread Vikram Dhillon
Has anyone tested this to see whether the instructions being applied to
the server are applicable to the regular distro as well? I think they
will work just fine so if the fix has been committed to serverguide, we
can probably port it.

[Bug 452652] Re: Creating DSL connection section is too terse in internet

2012-02-01 Thread Vikram Dhillon
Hello all,

I have made a few changes to the bug report itself to make it more
descriptive. On that note, I will start working on the DSL manager and
clear things up.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

  http://doc.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/internet/C/connecting-dsl.html

To create a DSL connection, one needs to provide some more information,
like user name and password - there is even a strange Service field, not
to mention all the other (perhaps relevant, I don't know, I don't use
- DSL) tabs, these things should be documented too,
+ DSL) tabs, these things should be documented too.
+
+ In summary: For this bug, we will appreciate if Ubuntu can add
+ documentation support explaining various features of the network
+ manager.

[Bug 792767] Re: When typing an application's name in the Dash, there is no visual queue that focus is on the first item in the list

2011-06-04 Thread Vikram Dhillon
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This can be seen as more of a feature request, therefore
I am marking it as a wishlist in the unity package. Also we see that the
search bar itself is doing its job correctly so this can be marked as an
opinion on how it should work. If any problems should arise, feel free
to change the importance and the statues accordingly or open a new bug.

[Bug 753072] Re: yelp docs not about ubuntu natty

2011-04-06 Thread Vikram Dhillon
Kyle: I will be adding #1 to the description as that makes it easier for
us to see the concerns brought up. Thanks.

I believe this would be a feature request, all the other docs are
included, the docs regarding unity haven't been written and updated to
include the 2-d stuff afaik.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

When you launch yelp (command line 'yelp') the docs shown do not appear
  to be about Ubuntu/Natty.

For example, they don't describe things in the context of unity, unity-
2d, or even classic gnome desktop.
+
+ A following set of questions is:
+
+ * what Ubuntu content is needed?
+ * of that, what part should be on-disk, and what part should be online?
+ * how should online Ubuntu help be arranged?
+ * translation of these?

Thanks for your patience :) see what happens is that as you go through
your awesome Ubuntu journey, you'll find websites that *only* provide
ATOM feeds and it may be a website you want updates from, so then you go
out looking for a feed reader that supports ATOM and there you go :)
liferea provides exactly what you are looking for. This is the case of
some average users out there, they maybe only looking for a feed reader that
supports ATOM or rdf becaue that's the only way they can get updates
from a certain website, so when they read description, it becomes easy

I understand your concern, but the problem is that liferea is a gnome
app, just to help you a little here, liferead supports many different
types of RSS feeds which are basically updates from a website. The other
types listed there are the other types of updates a website can give
out, so if you stumble across one, you can use liferea to get updates
from that site. I'll forward this one upstream and see what response
they give :)

The package is rather clean and only requires a small change and a patch
is attached, the package also builds fine in a maverick chroot:

dpkg-deb: building package `libcommons-jxpath-java-doc' in
`../libcommons-jxpath-java-doc_1.3-3_all.deb'.
 dpkg-genchanges ../libcommons-jxpath-java_1.3-3_i386.changes
dpkg-genchanges: not including original source code in upload
dpkg-buildpackage: binary and diff upload (original source NOT included)
I: Copying back the cached apt archive contents
I: unmounting dev/pts filesystem
I: unmounting proc filesystem
I: cleaning the build env
I: removing directory /var/cache/pbuilder/build//3025 and its subdirectories
I: Current time: Sun Jun 6 23:23:08 EDT 2010

The package is rather clean and only requires a small change and a patch
is attached, the package also builds fine in a maverick chroot:

dpkg-deb: building package `libcommons-jxpath-java-doc' in
`../libcommons-jxpath-java-doc_1.3-3_all.deb'.
 dpkg-genchanges ../libcommons-jxpath-java_1.3-3_i386.changes
dpkg-genchanges: not including original source code in upload
dpkg-buildpackage: binary and diff upload (original source NOT included)
I: Copying back the cached apt archive contents
I: unmounting dev/pts filesystem
I: unmounting proc filesystem
I: cleaning the build env
I: removing directory /var/cache/pbuilder/build//3025 and its subdirectories
I: Current time: Sun Jun 6 23:23:08 EDT 2010

The patch applies fine in -p0:

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 574449] Re: random flickers on ubuntu lucid desktop

However, I've had the laptop hooked up to my TV now (via VGA cable) for
several hours with mirror screens and haven't had the problem at all -
the TV does not support 1366x768, so both screens are now set to
1360x768 instead. Nothing else has changed - compiz is still running.
I also briefly tested dual monitor mode with the laptop display @
1366x768/60Hz and TV @ 1360x768 - had browser terminal windows open on
both, and did not notice any flickering.

 A quick search online showed a user with a Dell 1545 w/ Intel GM45
integrated gfx was having similar problems using Fedora 12's Intel xorg
 driver - http://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=519734 . Several
other distros showed up w/ similar problems with laptops w/ Intel GM45
GPUs. They also seem to confirm adding i915powersave=0 to the cmd
line in Grub seemed to solve the problem.

Just as that command line configuration seems to work for a lot of
people, I wonder if adding the 2nd display stops the flickering for me
because it causes power-saving mode for the GPU to be disabled? I have
 no idea.

Don't recall whether or not I had the problem with Karmic - I bought the
laptop in January installed 9.10 but I upgraded to Lucid Alpha 3 in
February. The flickering hasn't been frequent enough to become much of
a distraction for me. No problem doing anything graphics-intensive - I
can play videos online w/ 64-bit Flash Alpha I can even watch Netflix
movies in a full-screen WinXP box w/ VMWare Player. I can even rotate
compiz cylinder while its running and see the video playing behind my
 other desktops.

The flickering definitely seems to have something to do with the power
mgmt. modes on the GPU. In fact, I seem to notice flickering MOST
significantly when using a terminal window (terminal w/ ambiance theme
w/ transparency, if that helps any). Yesterday, I had to run e2fsck so
I put in a Linux Mint 9 live CD (which I assume uses the same Intel
drivers?) opened a terminal and the same problem occurred.

I'll try turning powersave off for a few days and see how it works and
what kind of impact that has on the battery life temperature.

Not a significant problem for me though, but anything I can do to help
w/ testing, let me know. This is my first posting on here so sorry if I
missed some of the board rules!

 Dave

Thanks for the help Dave, yeah and logically it makes sense that the
power management is causing the flickering, will look more into the bug
report upstream, and will try to document that as soon as possible :)

Shouldn't this bug report be closed? Tearing should be gone since Karmic
and also the performance is fine - at least for the possibilities of the

There is poetry and there is beauty in real sympathy; but there is more
— there is action. The noblest and most powerful form of sympathy is not
merely the responsive tear, the echoed sigh, the answering look; it is
the embodiment of the sentiment in actual help.

-- a critic of Ubuntu points out that there is no documentation or help that
explains the Installer. Install simply appears on the desktop, along with
another icon called Examples (which does not seem to provide any). Searching
the online help system also found no help or information on what to expect
 when installing Ubuntu.

@David: You should send an email to the mailing list [1] (under the
