[Bug 1072360] Re: [Macbook Pro 6, 2] Suspend to RAM fails (non-free: nvidia wl)

2013-08-11 Thread Wolf Rogner
it works on the MBP 6,2 now with kernel 3.8.0.28

However I have a similar issue with a MacBook Pro with Retina display
(15).

In order to get the machine to sleep, I have to open system settings /
power management and just click on the button to sleep when the lid is
closed.

This does the trick.

I don't know what is done that suspend to RAM is so error prone these
days.

Wolf Rogner, could you please confirm this issue exists with the latest
development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If the issue remains,
could you please run the following command in the development release
from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will
automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this
report:

[Bug 1072360] Re: [Macbook Pro 6, 2] Suspend to RAM fails (non-free: nvidia wl)

2012-11-29 Thread Barak Naveh
I a problem on MBP 6,2 that might be related. When I close the lid, it
seems as it suspends, but then it never resumes but behaves as if it
restarts. I'm not sure it's really a restart as i think i once noticed a
process I didn't expect to be running on a fresh start (a program i ran
myself). In any case, the window manager (or whatever it's called) is
definitely restarted along with all my open windows.

One more thing, I think it worked better with 3.5.0-17

[Bug 1072360] Re: [Macbook Pro 6, 2] Suspend to RAM fails (non-free: nvidia wl)

2012-11-29 Thread Wolf Rogner
I found a workaround:

When the machine refuses to go to sleep I open system settings - power
management
I set and reset the action on lid close to nothing and then suspend

This works reliably.

Then I have three sleeps free and the procedure starts again.

[Bug 1072360] Re: [Macbook Pro 6, 2] Suspend to RAM fails (non-free: nvidia wl)

2012-11-06 Thread Wolf Rogner
Suspend to RAM works for 3 times (sometimes it takes about 2 mins to go to
sleep though)
Then the machine just turns off its screen but keeps running (usually heating
up the case)
I can use the suspend menu once
After resume the menu has disappeared

Usually there are artefacts where the unity launcher is expected (I have
turned it to disappear).

I can log out and login again to get the suspend menu back.

Needless to say that this is new in 12.10.
12.04 worked without any glitches

[Bug 1072360] Re: [Macbook Pro 6, 2] Suspend to RAM fails (non-free: nvidia wl)

2012-11-01 Thread Wolf Rogner
It reproducably does not work after a fresh reboot
It works after closing and reopening the lid about three times (but this number
changes and the procedure is neither reliable nore good for the case)

WORKAROUND: Suspend from the menu works in cases that the above
mentioned procedure does not work at all.

My home directory is not encrypted or on any volume manager.

2012-11-01 Thread Wolf Rogner
I just realised and verified that using the suspend menu is a one time
wonder workaround.

After using the menu it disappears on the next resume.

Maybe it gets totally consumed by the process of setting the machine to
sleep.

I will further observe
