Hello @Hui Wang,
I have created a alsa-info.sh when the sound is working normally.I have
attached both links for working sound and not working sound cases. Please take
a look at it. May be you could get some idea from it?

2020-07-10 Thread Hui Wang
@Prajwal,

We could not find that machine to debug, since this issue happens
randomly, we have no idea what introduces this issue.

Could you try the latest mainline kernel to see if it works or not
(https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.8-rc4/), if it still
could not work, it is better to report this issue to upstream kernel
bugzilla (https://bugzilla.kernel.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Drivers),
let community help fix this bug, then we will integrate the fix to
ubuntu kernel.

Yes, the speakers behaves perfectly now. Thank you.

When auto-mute is enabled and I disconnect the headphones shouldn't the
global system volume be muted?

Please do a test.

Boot with the regular kernel (5.0.0-35-generic), make sure the speakers
can work after booting, then run:

amixer sset 'Auto-Mute Mode' 'Disabled'

After that plug a headphone and unplug the headphone, does the speaker
still work?

2019-11-13 Thread Marcin P
I have some additional observations (on regular kernel: 5.0.0-35-generic
#38~18.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Mon Nov 11 09:16:10 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64
GNU/Linux):

I also have a HP docking station which has its own separated built-in
DAC. When laptop is connected to this docking station I can choose from
following sound devices:

- Digital Output (S/PDIF) - USB Audio
- Analog Output - USB Audio
- Speakers - Built-in Audio

When I don't connect headphones I can switch between these devices and
when coming back to built-in speakers the speakers usually work (however
sometimes they don't). But after connecting headphones the speakers will
never work again.

To clarify: all previous tests I did were done on laptop disconnected
from docking station.

To install the testing kernel:

sudo dpkg -i linux-modules-xxx.deb
sudo dpkg- i linux-image-xxx.deb
sudo dpkg -i linux-modules-extra-xxx.deb
reboot

To choose the kernel:

you could press ESC button during the grub (bootloader) stage, then there is a
menu you could choose the kernel.
After booting up, you could run uname -a to verify the kernel you are running.

To uninstall the testing kernel:

sudo dpkg -p linux-modules-extra-xxx.deb (run dpkg --list | grep
linux-modules-extra*, then you will konw the full name of
linux-modules-extra-xxx.deb)
sudo dpkg -p linux-image-xxx.deb
sudo dpkg -p linux-modules-xxx.deb.
reboot.

2019-11-12 Thread Marcin P
Thank you Hui Wang for your quick answer.

Could you help me with install and then uninstall procedure?
I understand that I have to install all these kernel packages with "sudo dpkg
-i". But:
1. What is the order of installation of these packages?
2. After installation how can I switch from current kernel to this new kernel?
Currently I use "5.0.0-35-generic #38~18.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Mon Nov 11 09:16:10
UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux"
3. What if this new kernel won't boot my computer? Will be there any backup
kernel installed?
4. After tests what should I do get back to "stock" kernel?

When the speaker can output sound, please generate an alsa-

Then plug headphone and unplug the headphone.

Make sure the speaker can't output sound anymore, please generate an
alsa-info.txt_speaker_fail

Then upload both alsa-info.txt_speaker_ok and alsa-
