[Bug 236777] Re: Swiss German keyboard layout broken since Feisty
No reason to feel embarrassed - there might have actually been a bug during the upgrade changing your keyboard setting, but it's too late to find this one. I go for the 'invalid' status instead of the one you proposed ;-) ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: Incomplete => Invalid -- Swiss German keyboard layout broken since Feisty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/236777 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 236777] Re: Swiss German keyboard layout broken since Feisty
Hi, Actually whatever keyboard layout I chose I had always the exact same behavior, but I until your post I realized that my "Tastaturmodell" got changed. I just selected the right one and all of the sudden everything is working fine. Please disregard this as a bug and set it to "User stupidity". Really embarrassing. [Bug 236777] Re: Swiss German keyboard layout broken since Feisty
Hi, I think I know what kind of behaviour you expect from the keyboard. However, I tested the default Swiss German keyboard layout and got the behaviour you seem to want (i.e. _with_ dead keys). It might be that during the updates since feisty your keyboard layout got changed... Please try switching your keyboard layout to the default one, i.e. (assuming you use the Gnome desktop in German): System -> Tastatur -> Belegungen -> Hinzufügen -> Belegungen: Switzerland, Varianten: Vorgabe And make sure to move the new layout to the top or delete the old one. Does the problem still persist, then? If so, what "Tastaturmodell" (keyboard model) are you using? -- Swiss German keyboard layout broken since Feisty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/236777 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 236777] Re: Swiss German keyboard layout broken since Feisty
No, it's not a problem that goes away if I choose another keyboard layout. I've been using the same keyboard layout since Feisty, and in Feisty it worked properly. Then when I did the upgrade to Gutsy it stopped working and no matter what keyboard layout I choose, the behavior is the same. Then I upgraded to Hardy hoping that the problem went away, but it persists, that's why I am now reporting it. Basically, as far as I am concerned, there are 3 keys that are not working as expected and which I need pretty often. Those keys are the ones described in my previous post. What I am trying to do is to get the following letters: ï ñ á or ó but instead I am getting ¨i ~n ´a or ´o which is not what I want. For example, for the "ñ" letter, what I used to do (and this is what I do in any Winbugs system) I pressed at the same time "Alt Gr" and "^" (the key next to the backspace), released and then pressed "n" and I used to get "ñ", but ever since I'm getting "~n". It is also the case for the other keys I'm referring to. For the "ó" letter I pressed at the same time "Alt Gr" and "'" (the second key to the left of the backspace), released and then pressed "o". For the "ï" letter I pressed at the same time "Alt Gr" and "¨" (the key below the backspace) and then "i" I don't know what further details I can provide but I'll be glad to help. [Bug 236777] Re: Swiss German keyboard layout broken since Feisty
Hi, thanks for your bug report. I'm not sure, I understand the problem correctly. If you set the keyboard layout to "eliminate dead keys", typing ~+n _should_ give you "~n", otherwise "~" would be a dead key... Maybe your problem is solved by chosing the default layout instead of the nodeadkeys variant? If this is not the problem, please provide further details, what you are trying to do, what behaviour you expect and what you get instead. ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Incomplete -- Swiss German keyboard layout broken since Feisty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/236777 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
