[Bug 237760] Re: External harddrive failure, ehci_hcd
The problem is solved for me. I remember a kernel update in Hardy that fixed the bug. Also in Intrepid my USB storage devices work flawless. -- External harddrive failure, ehci_hcd https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/237760 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Keith, since you are the original bug reporter, can you comment if this is resolved with Intrepid? [Bug 237760] Re: External harddrive failure, ehci_hcd
Just checked with the 8.10 live cd and the usb stick which gave me problems in 8.04 works fine, so I guess ill upgrade, hopefully it fixes the issue for everyone else -- External harddrive failure, ehci_hcd https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/237760 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 237760] Re: External harddrive failure, ehci_hcd
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test: 1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux- image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test. --or-- 2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD. Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback. ** Tags added: cft-2.6.27 -- External harddrive failure, ehci_hcd https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/237760 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The autosuspend=-1 fix didn't help me... :-( (Linux bombadil 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Jun 4 15:10:52 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux) J.O. -- External harddrive failure, ehci_hcd https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/237760 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 237760] Re: External harddrive failure, ehci_hcd
Yes, this problem still persists. I observe the same USB 2.0 failure mode under Hardy Ubuntu 8.04 LTS: persistent reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd messages. ajisai:~$ uname -a Linux ajisai 2.6.24-18-server #1 SMP Wed May 28 20:21:05 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux This failure occurs for all of: 2 Gb Memorex TravelDrive 250 Gb Western Digital Passport WD2500XMS 750 Gb Seagate 3.5 External ST3750640CB-RK Adding options usbcore autosuspend=-1 to /etc/modprobe.d/usb-core- options (followed by sudo update-initramfs -u) is a reasonable workaround. However, it still requires unplugging of USB devices during reboots. A better fix still would seem to be in order. -- External harddrive failure, ehci_hcd https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/237760 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 237760] Re: External harddrive failure, ehci_hcd
Confirmed this is a very old bug but it's still alive. Ubuntu Hardy amd64 2.6.24-18-generic No automount and function with every usb-storage devices on intel ICH7 (i945) with ehci_hcd. Works slow with your idea in usb1.1, i suggest the older bugfix that works here. sudo echo -n -1 /sys/module/usbcore/parameters/autosuspend This parameter was at 2 with ubuntu defaults here. [Bug 237760] Re: External harddrive failure, ehci_hcd
Seems that this bug is a duplicate of #88746. Thanks to Eric Wick, setting autosuspend to -1 is a good workaround. To do this at boot time you can use Robert North's suggestion in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/hardy/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/88746/comments/209 Cheers -- External harddrive failure, ehci_hcd https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/237760 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 237760] Re: External harddrive failure, ehci_hcd
After some testing I have to say that the problem persits. The only way the get a reliable drive is to remove ehic_hcd. What really bothers me is that the original bug report (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/hardy/+source/linux- source-2.6.20/+bug/88746/) is taged Won't Fix!
