I believe that hardware-accelerated video rendering was only fully completed for Linux in Flash Player version 11. Please try the new version and if it works for you then change the status to Fix Released. If it doesn't work then please change the status to Confirmed. This is on a Thinkpad X30, running Xubuntu 10.04, with all updates as of the time of this post - hardly a power monster, but I know that it is more than capable of playing a 320x200 video...! I have tested in Chromium. Flash performance is fine - unless something else happens. If I move the mouse, frame rate drops to 2fps, tops. If it actually has to draw something else on the screen... well, we'll just leave that alone. On one of my son's games, it was so bad that the audio started stuttering as well. I also tested playing a .wmv file in Totem. The video is Windows Media v7 file at 408Kbps, and the audio is WMA v8 at 97Kbps. I've noticed this as well (a 1.8 GHz Pentium M with Radeon 9800 can't even play a normal-size YouTube clip in SD). However, it only appeared on Firefox and Chromium. I tried the same sites in Epiphany, there they worked fine. Epiphany can even play 720p YouTube content just fine on this machine. Could it be that it's connected to audio somehow, and that audio initialization for Flash inside Epiphany is different? I finally got flash working acceptable again... :) It seems that some changes I had made to /etc/pulse/default.pa CREATED the problems with flash playback... I discovered that playing other video files (in VLC / Gnome Player (Mplayer) etc.) were also slow/sluggish... I had kept the original /etc/pulse/default.ca file as /etc/pulse/default.ca.org so I just tried copying it back and restarting PulseAudio and it now works as it should... :) I was loading audio drivers statically instead of letting hal-detect do the job and that seemed (for me) to cause the problem... I have tested it in Chromium (daily build 4.0.202.0 (23182)) and Firefox Shiretoko (3.5.3-pre) too... Same results... I can confirm this on Ubuntu 9.04 all updated (01.08.2009). about:plugins:Shockwave Flash 10.0 r32 Backside effects: very offten NO VIDEO on YouTube (only audio), very high CPU usage (Firefox takes over 80%). Sometimes the video goes but very quick without audio, like browsing a picture galery very fast. FYI flash is slow on my ee even running windows unless its set to super performance mode (which I don't want to worry about getting manually implemented in ubuntu so I stick with XP). This bug is for people on normal hardware that should be able to play flash under windows but dies under linux. I think this bug isn't getting much attention because its Adobe's problem...and they have no reason to fix their shoddy work. Flash is unbelievably slow on my Eee PC with 1.6 GHz Atom and Intrepid 32 Bit in Firefox. I'd love to try and turn on/off hardware acceleration for Flash, but when I open the settings dialog it is completely unclickable. Flash movies stutter and stop all the time, regardless of website or movie size. Flash is completely unusable in this state. Tried another Browser (Opera) - even WORSE. Same problem here. 64-bit Intrepid with 64-bit flashplayer from Adobe. Both Nvidia 177.82 and 180.22 drivers are affected. Flash is absolutely terrible in Intrepid, especially SWF files that contain buttons. I can also confirm this problem on: Linux unknown 2.6.28-2-generic #3-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 4 21:49:26 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux Using flash plugin 10 with 3.0.4 Firefox. On a 1.9 ghz dual core cpu, watching Hulu.com videos, it averages 37% and full screen averages 75%. When I start moving my mouse over the full screen video it turns into a slideshow. Turning off compiz had no effect. Basically what i see is that when watching a flash video (that is completely finished buffering) if i move the mouse the video lags badly. The bug mentioned above has a video attached as well to show what i mean. 64-bit intrepid (2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Tue Nov 4 19:33:06 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux), updated 2008/11/15. I am experiencing this as well.
