[Bug 295080] Re: Some (old enough) translations in ddtp-ubuntu not visible in Ubuntu

2009-01-12 Thread Timo Jyrinki
I think Michael pushed the fixed i18n data also to intrepid-proposed on
2008-12-15: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/intrepid-
changes/2008-December/thread.html. They look fine mostly to me, ie. when
using intrepid-proposed repository, so they should be again copied to
intrepid-updates now. About everything that is translated with jaunty
repositories is now also translated with intrepid-proposed.

The only exception to "looks fine" is ubuntu-restricted-extras, which is
still fully non-translated in intrepid, including the short description.
But it's good in jaunty, so hopefully not indicative of any bigger
problem. Anyway, the strings have not changed now in intrepid -> jaunty,
so there should be no reason for the omission of those in the version
that intrepid-proposed has.

[Bug 295080] Re: Some (old enough) translations in ddtp-ubuntu not visible in Ubuntu

2008-12-05 Thread Timo Jyrinki
There was a delay, but now it works - intrepid-updates has what
intrepid-proposed used to have since 2008-11-14.

However, mvo mentioned that "This is currently jaunty, but if no
regressions come up there I will push a new update to -proposed soon.".
So, since jaunty seems to work fluently, feel free to put new DDTP into
intrepid-proposed now again. (or state that no more updates to intrepid
will be done)

I modify the test case to say apt-cache show oggconvert which tests the
new fixes quite well.

** Changed in: Ubuntu Intrepid
   Status: Fix Released => Confirmed

** Description changed:

Steve, let me quote from Celso's answer:

I don't think we have done that before, but as I and Colin said on
#soyuz, custom uploads we can only be copied using `cp`, it's a pure
disk operation.

Just be sure `cron.publisher-ftpmaster` is not running (stop it if
necessary, otherwise your changes to /dists will be overwritten), and
the copy the dists/intrepid-proposed/ to
dists/intrepid-updates/.

There might be necessary to create in the destination
dists.

[Bug 295080] Re: Some (old enough) translations in ddtp-ubuntu not visible in Ubuntu

2008-12-02 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Correct me if I'm wrong, but intrepid (not even proposed) was not yet
updated? My comment was about jaunty which was already updated.

Intrepid-proposed was updated earlier during Michael's first comment on
2008-11-13, but they didn't contain all the fixes that are now in
jaunty.

But yes, that's the status currently with intrepid. I understood from
the comments that Michael is first perhaps putting the current intrepid-
proposed (with some improvements) to intrepid-updates and then new
translations (as good as in jaunty now) to intreprid-proposed, or
something like that?

[Bug 295080] Re: Some (old enough) translations in ddtp-ubuntu not visible in Ubuntu

2008-12-02 Thread Steve Beattie
I can confirm that the finnish translations are improved by this change,
but only partially. In testing against archive.ubuntu.com, the rhythmbox
package had already had an update which had caught the updated
translation; the initial release version does get fixed by this.

The thoggen package has just a tiny bit of its description translated
with its update and also loses the formatting of the english text. The
before text looks like:

Description: DVD backup utility based on GStreamer and Gtk+
Thoggen is designed to be easy and straight-forward to use. It attempts
to hide the complexity many other transcoding tools expose and tries to
offer sensible defaults that work okay for most people most of the time.
 Features:
  * Easy to use, with a nice graphical user interface (GUI)
  * Supports title preview, picture cropping, and picture resizing.
  * Language Selection for audio track (no subtitle support yet though)
  * Encodes into Ogg/Theora video
  * Can encode from local directory with video DVD files
  * Based on the GStreamer multimedia framework, which makes it fairly
easy to add additional encoding formats/codecs in future.
 .
 http://thoggen.net

and the after text looks like:

Description-fi: DVD-varmuuskopiointiohjelma, joka perustuu GStreameriin ja
Gtk+:aan
Thoggen is designed to be easy and straight-forward to use. It attempts to
hide the complexity many other transcoding tools expose and tries to offer

The gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg translation looks good from the perspective of
someone who can't read Finnish at all.

ubuntu-restricted-extras appears to be entirely untranslated (yes, I've
got -proposed enabled for multiverse).

oggconvert appears only partially translated and also has a similar
format change as thoggen.

[Bug 295080] Re: Some (old enough) translations in ddtp-ubuntu not visible in Ubuntu

2008-12-02 Thread Timo Jyrinki
I cannot spot any regressions, and indeed many (all?) things are now
fixed in the jaunty translations. The restricted extras untranslated
chunks were not translated in ddtp-ubuntu Finnish translations, but
available so it does not indicate a problem anywhere.

All in all, thanks! Gnome-app-install among else is becoming more
accessible to all non-English users because of this work and the
continuation of DDTP efforts.

I subscribed ubuntu-archive to get the update copied from "intrepid-

package-copy seems to be not able to deal with custom uploads like this

[Bug 295080] Re: Some (old enough) translations in ddtp-ubuntu not visible in Ubuntu

2008-12-02 Thread Michael Vogt
Thanks a lot for your followup!

I think I'm making some progress again. I uploaded a new jaunty update and with
that:
 - ubuntu-restricted-extras is better translated (not fully, the last two
chunks are not done).
 - thoggen is fine now
 - oggconvert is fine too

This is currently jaunty, but if no regressions come up there I will
push a new update to -proposed soon. I fixed various bugs in the
translation file handling and I hope its (finally) not loosing
translations on the way anymore (I'm also making some good progress with
merging our translations back to debian).

Thanks,
 Michael

[Bug 295080] Re: Some (old enough) translations in ddtp-ubuntu not visible in Ubuntu

2008-11-14 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Feedback from intrepid-proposed:
- The first three mentioned strings are not translated still (or any in other
*ubuntu restricted extras). Checked with apt-cache show and gnome-app-install.
- Rhythmbox is now translated
- Gstreamer-ffmpeg is now translated
- Thoggen has short description translated, but the long description is not,
even though it is also definitely unchanged and translated.

I'm not sure if the lack of restricted extras translations are still
because DDTP-Ubuntu would be out of date regarding the real descriptions
or some other reason.

The lack of Thoggen's long description would indicate the problem related to
lack of it (and probably
others) was not completely fixed.

One more relevant example would be oggconvert, and the problem with it
might reflect the problem with thoggen. If you look at eg.
http://fi.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/jaunty/universe/i18n
/Translation-fi, you can see that the long untranslated part lacks line
changes. However, the original description has line changes, the Debian
translation (ftp://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/dists/sid/main/i18n
/Translation-fi) has line changes, and it's correct in Launchpad too
(https://translations.launchpad.net/ddtp-ubuntu/ubuntu/+pots/ddtp-
ubuntu-universe/fi/32530/+translate). So it's all translated (and the
description is identical in Debian and Ubuntu), but somehow the
translation does not end up in the Ubuntu's i18n files.

Anyway, the intrepid-proposed updates are an important improvement, and
many new translations from Debian are available. Michael may want to
look into this further though, and mention if this should be now enough
for intrepid or not.
