This bug affects Lucid Lynx beta. Fix I posted on 2009-07-14 still applies. Adding the sisfb module to modules file fixes issue. I have found a solution to this problem post found here : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=961964 (To give credit to forum member "graham-cracker" After some web searching and with the help of: sudo lspci -v It looks like sisfb (a required module for my graphics card) is not being loaded on startup. A temporary fix was to: Switch to a different terminal (Ctrl-Alt-F2) Log in Insert the sisfb module (sudo modprobe sisfb) Switch back to X (Ctrl-Alt-F7) Restart X (Ctrl-Alt-Backspace) This appears to fix the problem (until you restart). Thank you Daishi for the update. Magnus version 8.04 works fine no driver problems with this version. This screen problem is also on linux mint latest build. I too own an Aspire 5003 and am experiencing the same problem; it appears to get worse over time. Anyway a temporary fix is to change the Device section of xorg.conf as so: Section "Device" Identifier "Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) SiS Default Card" # Driver "sis" Driver "vesa" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" The vesa driver however leaves you in 800x600. I hope a solution to this problem is found soon and will update if I find anything. Note: This also puts my screen at a weird 61Hz though there does not appear to be a problem with that on my screen at least. Yes this only happen with the laptop screen. So, please find and attach: * /var/log/Xorg.0.log * /etc/X11/xorg.conf * ~/.xsession-errors (if you have one. look in your home directory) Could you test with another monitor, and see if the problem remains? Because if it does, the bug is probably in the driver only and the monitor is not involved. I can also comment after looking at my png files from another system. that it is the monitor only. This issue doe not show up with a dual boot with windows xp.
