I would like to know what update(s) resolved your problem--which sounds to me like you'd be looking for a needle in a hay stack if it was 1 or 2 out of 200+ updates. Unfortunately, I cannot simply install every available update. There are outstanding issues.with the sound subsystem on the HP Mini 1000. If I install every update, I will break my audio output. At this point, the sound is more important that the annoyance of this bug. I will investigate the available updates and perhaps apply some of them selectively to see if I can fix the problem. Again, it would be beneficial to know what specific package(s) need to be patched. I have the same problem on the HP Mini 1000 running Ubuntu 8.10, but the effect is slightly different. After removing the power cord, the OSD fails to display the icon at all; it simply freezes the section of the screen (see screenshot). I can continue working, but that portion of the screen remains stuck until the OSD times out--a full 100 seconds.
