[Bug 400934] Re: [i945] (UXA) Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2772] (rev 02)

2010-02-10 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
For anyone on Lucid, I have uploaded a version of Lucid's libdrm to my
PPA which has this patch:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/drm/commit/?id=4f0f871730b76730ca58209181d16725b0c40184
.

This patch is supposed to fix many of the freeze problems that has
occurred lately. The PPA is at
https://launchpad.net/~gomyhr/+archive/standard .

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Things seem a lot more beautiful: glxgears works fine and no major

even move the cursor), sometimes after dragging a window, sometimes just
after moving the cursor! Anyway, it doesn't take longer than a minute to
freeze, so, I switched back to EXA (unfortunnely...).

[Bug 400934] Re: [i945] (UXA) Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2772] (rev 02)

2010-01-15 Thread Geir Ove Myhr

I have uploaded an older version of mesa to my "old" PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~gomyhr/+archive/old/+packages . By testing this,
we can find out if this is caused by a bug in mesa which is introduced
after version 7.5.

Unfortunately, installing it is probably not as easy as just adding the
PPA to /etc/apt/sources and do `sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get
upgrade`, since the version in the PPA is older than then one in karmic
and I didn't do any PPA magic to make it want to upgrade anyway. The
easiest way I can think about is probably to download all the deb-files
for your architecture (*i386.deb) to an empty folder and do a `dpkg -i
-O *.deb` in that folder. That will install only the packages that
already have an installed version on your system.

If Karmic freezes with this version, I can try to go all the way back to
the Jaunty version.

PS: I don't have a Karmic installation (I only have Jaunty and Lucid) so
I haven't had a chance to test that the packages even work.

Sidney, if you would like to help it is better if you file your own bug
report. With many people having slightly different results in the same
bug report it easily gets very confusing. Therefore we prefer one
reporter per bug report for xorg-related bugs.

2009-11-04 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
takashi, since many different freeze bugs will lead to exactly the
same symptoms, we only take data from the computer that the bug report
was originally filed for. Otherwise, we might end up with different
underlying bugs in the same report and that only leads to confusion.

Your information is still valuable, but we need it in a new bug
report. Please file it with `ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-video-intel` on
the affected computer. Even when Launchpad tries to convince you to
check other bug report, insist on filing a new one as we really need
that for this kind of bugs.

It may turn out later that the underlying problem is the same and that
we can mark one bug report as a duplicate of another. That doesn't
mean that both bug reports weren't useful.

dmesg & Xorg.0.log are included in attached file.

Operations
1. sudo INTEL_DEBUG=batch /etc/init.d/gdm restart
2. Set visual effects -> extra (compiz)
3. Window move by mouse operation.
4. Window swings (visual effect)
5. freeze occur
6. ssh & get Batchbuffer

Anything else?

2009-10-31 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
Pablo, Ubuntu and Kubuntu use the same underlying software, but the
Gnome desktop may make some function calls that KDE doesn't and vice
versa. There's no way to fall back to EXA since that part of the driver
has been deleted a while ago. In the long run it wasn't possible to
maintain three different memory managment schemes, especially when UXA
makes much more sense than the others. You can get an xorg.conf by
running X -configure or you may copy the default configuration listed in
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.

For freeze bugs like this one, we need a batchbuffer dump. Take a look at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze for how to do that. With the
batchbuffer dump please also provide a fresh Xorg.0.log and dmesg output.

No, that's not the same issue here. Running from the live CD, it freezes right
after desktop shows, even before I can move the mouse. I tried to upgrade from
Karmic Alpha 6 (in which I can use it for minutes till it freezes), with
effects disabled, and then enable them, but it really always takes less than 30
seconds to freeze.
But, even with effects disabled, Blender still crashes Ubuntu, just like it did

Sorry for taking too long. I've been reporting to the wrong bug.
Here's the situation on Beta:

Confirmed: still happens on Karmic Beta. And it's even worse. Worse than
Alpha 1! It's freezing before I even get the chance to click on
anything. I had the chance only once, and when I opened a window, it
freezed. I can't even deactivate the Special Effects to work around. I
can't get those logs either.

I'll attach dmesg, lspci and Xorg.0.log from Alpha 6, hope it will be
useful.

2009-07-28 Thread Pablo Almeida
Bad news. I downloaded Karmic alpha 3 and installed in my usb drive, as I
always do.
More problems, but this time it's worse:
Gnome desktop just doesn't load.
After Ubuntu splash, the screen goes black with the "loading" cursor on the
center of the screen, but it stays there loading forever. I can't hear a sound,
and the usb drive LED shines a bit, then stops around three times, then stops
forever.
I don't know if it's about Xorg and Intel anymore, so I'm gonna report another
bug.
And, I'm sorry, no Xorg.0.log and dmesg AGAIN, since I couldn't log into the
system.
I wanted to get the logs on Alpha 2, since it is the "closest to work" alpha
release of Karmic for me, but this machine is not connected to a local network
so I can't rely on openssh (am I wrong?).
And persistent storage is always enabled on my usb installs, but will I be able
to get those saved logs afterwards if I never get to open a single window in my
system?
I could download Alpha 2 again (I erased it as I downloaded alpha 3) and do
this, but any help on how to get those logs would be appreciated.

Karmic alpha-3 is now ready for testing. We really need the logs from
the newer versions to take this any further. You should be able to get
this via a LiveCD if you install openssh-server and ssh in from another
computer. Otherwise, you may try to install the LiveCD image to a USB
stick (System -> Administration -> USB startup disk creator) and enable
persistent storage (you probably need at least a 2 GB USB stick for this
to work. This should leave the logs on the USB stick for next boot.

[Bug 400934] Re: [i945] (UXA) Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2772] (rev 02)

2009-07-22 Thread Pablo Almeida
So, I tested Karmic alpha 2, running on live cd. It was exactly like when I
activated UXA on Jaunty. The whole System crashes after less than a minute.
On Karmic, all I need was to open a window to make it crash. I thought it was
because of the fade animation. But I couldn't deactivate the effects because I
can't even open the window.
Also, I couldn't get the Xorg.0.log nor the dmesg.

[Bug 400934] Re: [i945] (UXA) Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2772] (rev 02)

2009-07-20 Thread Bryce Harrington
Well, next I'd like to forward this issue upstream, but first it must be
retested on latest development version of Karmic to make sure the issue
still happens there with the latest code. ISO images are available at
http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic/. If you can reproduce it in
the LiveCD environment, you shouldn't need to modify your installed
system. Also please attach a fresh Xorg.0.log and dmesg from this
testing.
