This bug was filed against a series that is no longer supported and so is being marked as Won't Fix. If this issue still exists in a supported series, please file a new bug. [Bug 425455] Re: [karmic] Wireless LAN disconnects frequently # Chipset Intel 3945ABG @ AP with WPA
To be adding more info: sometimes "restart network-manager" does not work and I need to unload/reload the two kernel modules iwl3945 and iwlcore so that I can get a connection again. It seems to be most prone to crash when the signal strength is < 60% and when there are many outgoing connections at the same time, e.g. bittorrent traffic or internet surfing. It's actually (almost) stable when there are few connections, such as a single download by wget. I suppose that could lead to testing of some sort... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/425455 Title: [karmic] Wireless LAN disconnects frequently # Chipset Intel 3945ABG @ AP with WPA -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Same problem here on 10.04 LTS with this wifi chip. Used to work flawlessly on 9.10... Am not moving to 10.10 until this is sorted out. I'm not sure whether it is a driver problem or a network manager problem, however when I run : sudo restart network-manager Suddenly I can connect again. Usually the connection lasts for ~1hour, sometimes longer... It seems to be depending on the quantity of data transmitted. In Gnome Bugzilla Dan Williams said: Unfortunately this appears to be a driver error. It simply isn't able to connect to the AP using the settings you've given it. The logs show a lot of half-completed connections that then fail because the driver sends the "disconnect" event. I think at this point you shoudl file a bug in your distributions' bugzilla against the kernel with these logs and follow it up there. They'll likely ask you to enable debug logging of the driver so that they can see why the driver is failing to connect to the AP. [Bug 425455] Re: [karmic] Wireless LAN disconnects frequently # Chipset Intel 3945ABG @ AP with WPA
I had the same problem on a Toshiba A300. No problem with 8.10, virtually no wireless with 9.10 looking at /var/log/daemon.log I realized that NetworkManager was logging the disconnection immediately after an error by wpa_supplicant. In the same log on 8.10 there was no sign of wpa_supplicant (which I don't even think I had installed). Apparently they do not behave well together and they both get installed by default. The problem must also be related to the network card because on a second toshiba laptop I had no trouble at all. I first thought about removing wpa_supplicant but this will remove also NetworkManager so I did the opposite and removed only NetworkManager. I configured the wpa_supplicant (there are various guides on how-to around the net) and the wirelss started working fine. I lost the nm-applet but I found a nice application which will do something similar called wpa_gui. It does only configure wireless connections but this is fine for me. -- [karmic] Wireless LAN disconnects frequently # Chipset Intel 3945ABG @ AP with WPA https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/425455 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I am having the same issue as leeon. My wireless will work anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours before disconnecting. The only way for me to get wireless back is to reboot. Restarting the network with /etc/init.d/networking restart doesn't help. I am using wicd and NOT network-manager. Wicd fails at the obtaining IP address stage. I have WEP enabled.
