[Bug 573404] Re: unable to download addons - example:adblock+

2010-05-08 Thread Draycen DeCator
After doing some searching, I found that this issue has been reported
upstream: mozilla 543420. The upstream bug was filed against Windows,
which suggests that this is not an Ubuntu-only issue. The upstream
report also pointed to the support page I provided earlier:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons which did
not seem to resolve the issue for anyone. However, on that support page
is an area describing how to make sure software installation isn't
disabled. Just to be safe, could someone follow the directions on that
support page and make sure their system hasn't disabled the installation
for some reason? I highly doubt this is the case since nobody seems to
be able to even download the addons, but it's another thing to rule out.

I will discuss this with some of the developers to see if this report
should be linked to the upstream report and if there is any extra
information that we will need.

2010-05-08 Thread HabsFanInOz
I just checked, and xpinstall.enabled is indeed set to true.

Another (possibly related?) bug: when trying to install an addon, the
bar with the message Firefox prevented this site (addons.mozilla.org)
from asking you to install software on your computer, appears at the
top of the page, as it should. However, even though I click allow,
Firefox does not preserve this setting in Preferences - Security -
Exceptions when I try again, either in the same session, or after
restarting.

No, direct download is not possible too. The error is something like the
source file cannot be read.
FYI: I tried to change the network connection mode in firefox from use system
settings to direct etc. -- no success.
I tried the download from my other pc (windows) and the download was successful.

[Bug 573404] Re: unable to download addons - example:adblock+

2010-05-07 Thread HabsFanInOz
I'm running Lucid 10.04 LTS on an old Pentium IV, 2.4GHz machine with an
Nvidia GeForce Ti 4200 card. I started experiencing this problem with
10.04beta - but not right away - and also after a fresh install of 10.04
after it was officially released. In 10.04beta, I was initially able to
install addons in Firefox, but after a while, they would not update
(Download error - 228). Now, with the official release, I have the same
problem right from the start with ANY addons or themes.

I've tried all the suggestions here and on the Mozilla website, but none
of them work. I can't even download the addons by right-clicking and
then saving them to disk. I've downloaded the addons using another
machine, but when I copy them to this computer, dragging and dropping
them to the Addons window doesn't work either.

The only thing that does seem to work is to enable to set
'extensions.hideInstallButton' to 'false' in about:config (i.e., to
enable the 'Install' button in the Addons window, and then to manually
install extensions that I've downloaded using another machine.

2010-05-06 Thread rdmessin
Hi, no success with the solutions of the Mozilla support site. My cache was set
to 50 MB. I increased, decreased and purged the cache --- no success.
Furthermore it is not only a problem with ONE single addon. All addons are
affected -- no server error or something in that way. It is local problem.

Thank you for the update. If you go to the Mozilla Add-ons website, are
you able to right-click the Add to Firefox button and use Save link
as... to download the .xpi?

[Bug 573404] Re: unable to download addons - example:adblock+

2010-05-05 Thread Draycen DeCator
Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. According to the Mozilla support
site, this error is usually due to insufficient cache space being set
for Firefox to use: http://support.mozilla.com/en-
US/kb/unable+to+install+add-ons#Download_Error_228

Please go to Edit Preferences Advanced Network inside of Firefox,
then make sure there is at least 1MB devoted to Firefox cache (I have it
set to 50MB on my system, but the support site says to make sure it has
at least 1MB).

If that does not resolve the issue, then it could be due to a problem on
the server, in which case attempting to download the extension again
later may work.

Please try these fixes, and let us know whether they resolve the issue
for you or not.

Same problem on my laptop (Ubuntu 10.04 on amd64).
Hint: The standard problem resolution, delete extension.rdf + extension.cache
in profile, does NOT work.
