[Bug 660783] Re: after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec
karlrt, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Maverick reached EOL on April 10, 2012. Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in a supported release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev - - First, i thought i had this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/346310 - But for the original bugreporter, maverick solved all the issues. [Bug 660783] Re: after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec
I am having the same problem as Leif Walsh. There was no such behavior with 10.04. It started when I upgraded (using update-manager) to 10.10, and continues even after upgrading to 11.04. After resuming and during unlocking the screen, the mouse and everything works fine for a few seconds. Then the whole system seems to freeze for a few seconds. After that, everything works fine. It never happens for me that the mouse and/or keyboard freezes up permanently. I don't use Gnome or NetworkManager, but fvwm2 and wicd. So the problem is likely lower level. I have a Thinkpad Edge 13. The problem doesn't seem to occur if I only suspend briefly (like a minute or so). It mostly seems to occur if it was suspended for a while. Could it be some kind of clock synchronization problem? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/660783 Title: after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 660783] Re: after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec
Just wanted to say, that this bug is highly annoying. Ubuntu is unable to suspend/resume more that 3 times without killing all my input devices. It wasn't an issue before 10.10. Did every one having this issue dist-upgrade? or install from scratch? Might affect the issue. Many lenovos comes with Nvidia cards. For some reason I suspect the nvidia driver's suspend/resume functionality may be involved somehow. But its just speculation. [Bug 660783] Re: after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec
Hmm, suspend/resume issues generally tend to be kernel bugs. In this case it sounds like the resume process is taking too long (maybe blocked loading another driver like wireless or something?) So... I *think* this may not be an X issue after all. I'll refile to the kernel. [Bug 660783] Re: after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec
Also affects me. Please let me know if there is any debug information I can collect to track this down. It has been happening at least since Lucid, maybe earlier. The behavior I see is as follows: 1) suspend 2) resume 3) often (I think only when running on battery), but this may not be true, I haven't done any direct testing, the mouse and keyboard are responsive for a few seconds, then get very sluggish. Moving the mouse doesn't work for a bit (5-10 seconds), or is slow and jerky if it does respond. 4) after a small amount of time, normal operation resumes My thought was that something that had been swapped out to disk to make room for the resume image needed to get pulled back in for resume, but this seems somewhat counter-intuitive. There was another bug about evdev (#346310, something about EvdevReopenTimer()), maybe that's it? Nothing shows up in dmesg, I wonder what is the best approach for finding out more about this. It seems I'd need to start some logging collection before the suspend and hope it continues after the resume, but obviously if the keyboard and mouse don't respond, it's hard to trap the exact error in gdb or somesuch. Maybe there's a way to run X under valgrind? [Bug 660783] Re: after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec
From what I'm experiencing, the trackpoint (and associated mouse buttons above the touchpad) is usually what goes first and I'm limited to the trackpad and keyboard. After a few more suspend/resume cycles I'll lose the trackpad, and in some cases, even the keyboard stops responding entirely. I don't believe I got this pre-lucid, and from my experience this isn't related to being on/off battery. Again, let me know if I can provide any data needed to track this down. +1 for having this on Lenovo. My laptop is a T61p. I haven't really figured out when it happens but maybe it happens more after I have suspended many times. I haven't really noticed that it is unresponsive a little period of time but only that it does not work at all after a resume from suspend sometimes. This is the behavior: 1) suspend 2) resume, quite fast, only 2 seconds, and i see desktop and can type, video sound are working (resumed while playing video) 3) it takes about 5 more seconds that mouse movements are working. + This is a fresh install, hardware is a thinkpad t61 (hardware.txt for + detailed info), no flash opened, reproducable without wifi on. + ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.3.2-6ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-22.33-generic 2.6.35.4 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-22-generic x86_64 Architecture: amd64 DRM.card0.DVI.D.1: - status: disconnected - enabled: disabled - dpms: Off - modes: - edid-base64: + status: disconnected + enabled: disabled + dpms: Off + modes: + edid-base64: DRM.card0.LVDS.1: - status: connected - enabled: enabled - dpms: On - modes: 1440x900 - edid-base64: AP///wAwrjNPAQOAHhN46s11kVVPiyYhUFQBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBsCegYFGELTAwIDYAL74QAAAZ1R+gQFGEGjAwIDYAL74QAAAZDwCQCjKQCigUAQBMo0JE/gBMVE4xNDFXRC1MMDUKADI= + status: connected + enabled: enabled + dpms: On + modes: 1440x900 + edid-base64: AP///wAwrjNPAQOAHhN46s11kVVPiyYhUFQBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBsCegYFGELTAwIDYAL74QAAAZ1R+gQFGEGjAwIDYAL74QAAAZDwCQCjKQCigUAQBMo0JE/gBMVE4xNDFXRC1MMDUKADI= DRM.card0.VGA.1: - status: disconnected - enabled: disabled - dpms: Off - modes: - edid-base64: + status: disconnected + enabled: disabled + dpms: Off + modes: + edid-base64: Date: Thu Oct 14 22:02:44 2010 LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Release amd64 (20101007) MachineType: LENOVO 7659Y8V PccardctlIdent: - Socket 0: -no product info available + Socket 0: + no product info available PccardctlStatus: - Socket 0: -no card + Socket 0: + no card ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/casper/vmlinuz noprompt cdrom-detect/try-usb=true persistent file=/cdrom/preseed/hostname.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd.lz quiet splash -- debian-installer/language=de console-setup/layoutcode?=de ProcEnviron: - LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 - SHELL=/bin/bash + LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: xserver-xorg-input-evdev dmi.bios.date: 04/25/2008 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: 7LETB7WW (2.17 ) dmi.board.name: 7659Y8V dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: Not Available dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvr7LETB7WW(2.17):bd04/25/2008:svnLENOVO:pn7659Y8V:pvrThinkPadT61:rvnLENOVO:rn7659Y8V:rvrNotAvailable:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 7659Y8V dmi.product.version: ThinkPad T61 dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO glxinfo: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory system: - distro: Ubuntu - codename: maverick - architecture: x86_64 - kernel: 2.6.35-22-generic + distro: Ubuntu + codename: maverick + architecture: x86_64 + kernel: 2.6.35-22-generic -- after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/660783 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
