[Bug 660783] Re: after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec

2012-04-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
karlrt, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Maverick
reached EOL on April 10, 2012.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If
so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD
images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in a
supported release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal).
It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to
this report.

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not
boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

-
- First, i thought i had this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/346310
- But for the original bugreporter, maverick solved all the issues. For me, a
fresh maverick install (no upgrade) doesnt help. This is the behavior:

  1) suspend
  2) resume, quite fast, only 2 seconds, and i see desktop and can type, video
sound are working (resumed while playing video)
  3) it takes about 5 more seconds that mouse movements are working.

This is a fresh install, hardware is a thinkpad t61 (hardware.txt for
detailed info), no flash opened, reproducable without wifi on.

[Bug 660783] Re: after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec

2011-05-20 Thread Peter Selinger
I am having the same problem as Leif Walsh. There was no such behavior
with 10.04. It started when I upgraded (using update-manager) to 10.10,
and continues even after upgrading to 11.04.

After resuming and during unlocking the screen, the mouse and everything
works fine for a few seconds. Then the whole system seems to freeze for
a few seconds. After that, everything works fine. It never happens for
me that the mouse and/or keyboard freezes up permanently.

I don't use Gnome or NetworkManager, but fvwm2 and wicd. So the problem
is likely lower level. I have a Thinkpad Edge 13. The problem doesn't
seem to occur if I only suspend briefly (like a minute or so). It mostly
seems to occur if it was suspended for a while. Could it be some kind of
clock synchronization problem?

[Bug 660783] Re: after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec

2011-04-28 Thread mo
Just wanted to say, that this bug is highly annoying. Ubuntu is unable
to suspend/resume more that 3 times without killing all my input
devices. It wasn't an issue before 10.10. Did every one having this
issue dist-upgrade? or install from scratch? Might affect the issue.
Many lenovos comes with Nvidia cards. For some reason I suspect the
nvidia driver's suspend/resume functionality may be involved somehow.
But its just speculation.

What can I do to help?

[Bug 660783] Re: after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec

2011-04-28 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hmm, suspend/resume issues generally tend to be kernel bugs. In this
case it sounds like the resume process is taking too long (maybe blocked
loading another driver like wireless or something?) So... I *think*
this may not be an X issue after all. I'll refile to the kernel.

FWIW, there is some documentation on how to troubleshoot suspend/resume
problems and other kernel driver problems, which you can review here:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

Hey karlrt,

Hi, have you had a chance to test if this bug is still present in natty?

If it does (and if you're the original reporter), please boot into natty
and run the command:

  apport-collect bug-number

which will update the bug with fresh logs and tag the bug as affecting
natty. (It is best to run this right after reproducing the problem.)

[Bug 660783] Re: after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec

2011-02-02 Thread Leif Walsh
Also affects me. Please let me know if there is any debug information I
can collect to track this down. It has been happening at least since
Lucid, maybe earlier.

The behavior I see is as follows:

1) suspend
2) resume
3) often (I think only when running on battery), but this may not be true, I
haven't done any direct testing, the mouse and keyboard are responsive for a
few seconds, then get very sluggish. Moving the mouse doesn't work for a bit
(5-10 seconds), or is slow and jerky if it does respond.
4) after a small amount of time, normal operation resumes

My thought was that something that had been swapped out to disk to make
room for the resume image needed to get pulled back in for resume, but
this seems somewhat counter-intuitive. There was another bug about
evdev (#346310, something about EvdevReopenTimer()), maybe that's it?

Nothing shows up in dmesg, I wonder what is the best approach for
finding out more about this. It seems I'd need to start some logging
collection before the suspend and hope it continues after the resume,
but obviously if the keyboard and mouse don't respond, it's hard to trap
the exact error in gdb or somesuch. Maybe there's a way to run X under
valgrind? Please advise.

[Bug 660783] Re: after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec

2011-02-02 Thread Miller Larson
From what I'm experiencing, the trackpoint (and associated mouse buttons
above the touchpad) is usually what goes first and I'm limited to the
trackpad and keyboard. After a few more suspend/resume cycles I'll lose
the trackpad, and in some cases, even the keyboard stops responding
entirely.

I don't believe I got this pre-lucid, and from my experience this isn't
related to being on/off battery.

Again, let me know if I can provide any data needed to track this down.
I'm not sure what is applicable at this point.

2010-12-01 Thread Matthew Stephenson
For me, both trackpad and trackpoint are unresponsive for 5-10 seconds
after resume, as per the original bugreport

Additionally, on about half my resumes, the trackpoint (and associated
buttons) don't work at all, but the trackpad does. My usual workaround
for this is to sleep and resume the computer again, which usually works
- sometimes two goes are necessary.

I will look into whether unloading and reloading any kernel modules
fixes this.

2010-11-23 Thread ThomasNovin
+1 for having this on Lenovo. My laptop is a T61p. I haven't really
figured out when it happens but maybe it happens more after I have
suspended many times.

I haven't really noticed that it is unresponsive a little period of time
but only that it does not work at all after a resume from suspend
sometimes. The only button that works on the keyboard is the ON/OFF. If
I press it for 2-3 seconds I get the login screen.

I have this issue right now but I connected external keyboard+mouse via
USB. That works.

I will try to create a similar hardware.txt and attach.

Btw, I never had this issue before and I have had every release since
8.10 on this laptop I think.

[Bug 660783] Re: after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec

2010-11-02 Thread mo
I have this issue too on my T61. I upgraded to 10.10.

After first suspend-resume, mouse and trackpoint only works after about
5 seconds. Second suspend/resume, the trackpoint stops working at all.
On third suspend/resume, both keyboard and trackpoint are unresponsive,
and remain so until i reboot the machine. I did not have this issue
before I did the upgrade.

I can plug in an external usb mouse or keyboard, which works fine in all
of the above cases.

[Bug 660783] Re: after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec

2010-10-14 Thread karlrt

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev

First, i thought i had this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/346310
But for the original bugreporter, maverick solved all the issues. For me, a
fresh maverick install (no upgrade) doesnt help. This is the behavior:

  1) suspend
  2) resume, quite fast, only 2 seconds, and i see desktop and can type, video
sound are working (resumed while playing video)
  3) it takes about 5 more seconds that mouse movements are working.

+ This is a fresh install, hardware is a thinkpad t61 (hardware.txt for
+ detailed info), no flash opened, reproducable without wifi on.
