[Bug 738657] Re: Broadcom BCM43225 no longer works
Yuv, glad it is working in Quantal! Did you need a backport to a release prior to Quantal, or may we close this report as Status Invalid? Regarding how the indicator LED is not working, if you would like a fix for it, could you please file a new report via a terminal, and feel free to subscribe me to it: ubuntu-bug linux ** Summary changed: - Broadcom BCM43225 no longer works + 14e4:4357 Broadcom BCM43225 no longer works ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/738657 Title: 14e4:4357 Broadcom BCM43225 no longer works To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/738657/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 738657] Re: Broadcom BCM43225 no longer works
Tested with Precise and with Quantal (05-Aug-2012 from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/daily-live/current/). The good news: With Quantal the wireless connection works out of the box. Small cosmetic issue: the indicator LED is not working. The bad news: with Precise (and that's an LTS, so the bug might be around for a long time) I still had to activate the proprietary driver (K -> Applications -> System -> Additional Drivers) and use the workaround. At this point I am not sure if you still need me to test with the newest mainline kernel? Also: do you consider the bug fixed, or is the non- working LED indicator serious enough to keep the report open? ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Expired => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/738657 Title: Broadcom BCM43225 no longer works To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/738657/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

If you think I did not, please explain clearly. > It's a simple matter of reading what has been requested of you, and providing > the results, I re-read your comment 7 and my understanding is that you requested two things of me: (a) run apport; and (b) run a newer kernel. I did (a) in comments #8 to #23 on March 31; and I did (b), which was much more onerous, on May 7 in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/738657/comments/28 > It's can be considered disrespectful to blatantly disregard what triagers > request of you, > then complain about how the status is put back to the appropriate one. I did not "blatanty disregard" what was requested of me. I surely misunderstood it. Misunderstandstanding come from mis-communication or from non-communication. Your change of the status to INCOMPLETE without explanation is non-communication. It does not explain (a) what you think that I did wrong; (b) why you are of different opinion than Brad (who set the status to CONFIRMED); and (c) what you would like me to do to fix the report. If you think that what I did is not enough (or if you think that I did not do anything and that I am blatantly disregarding what you requested of me), you have to tell me in more detail what you would like me to do, else I can only second-guess and assume your intention. Simply insisting that INCOMPLETE is the appropriate status seems to me to serve only one purpose: ignoring the bug until it expires from the tracker, wiping it under the carpet and hoping that nobody else will notice. My assumptions are: (1) the kernel in 12.04 is newer than the latest development image on March 31; and probably also newer than the latest upstream kernel on that same day, so it is enough to test with the kernel in 12.04. (2) my hardware has not changed and so there is nothing new to be added by running apport again. (3) if I made a mistake, I will be told how to fix it. > so that your problem may be addressed. Let's be clear: it is not my problem. My problem was fixed with the blacklisting of the faulty modules. I am satisfied with my machine as it works now. Even if that solution was not available to me, I have easy alternatives to address "my" problem, including running Windows (which I anyway paid for when I bought the notebook). LibreOffice, Firefox, Thunderbird, and the other apps I need run equally well in Windows. My interest in seing this bug fixed is much smaller than the interest of those whose reputation is at stake for producing and distributing malfunctioning software. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/738657 Title: Broadcom BCM43225 no longer works To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/738657/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 738657] Re: Broadcom BCM43225 no longer works
OK, I just tested with Edubuntu 12.04 out of a USB key. The good news: out of the box, without any configuration tweaking, I can connect to the wireless network. Unfortunately the wireless indicator led that was functional until kernel 2.6.38-4 is dead. Observed behavior: led is off. Expected behavior: led should be on while wireless is enabled and off while disabled. Led is tested to be functional in dual boot Windows. Moreover, while pressing the Fn-F3 combination does turn wireless on/off, it also still triggers an error message in dmesg: [ 939.917815] atkbd serio0: Unknown key pressed (translated set 2, code 0x93 on isa0060/serio0). [ 939.917827] atkbd serio0: Use 'setkeycodes e013 ' to make it known. [ 940.015100] atkbd serio0: Unknown key released (translated set 2, code 0x93 on isa0060/serio0). [ 940.015106] atkbd serio0: Use 'setkeycodes e013 ' to make it known. so I would say: partial improvement, not yet as good as kernel 2.6.38-4, but comparable to the workaround without fiddling. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/738657 Title: Broadcom BCM43225 no longer works To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/738657/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 738657] Re: Broadcom BCM43225 no longer works
Yuv, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. ** Description changed: Acer Aspire 1830T-3337 with Natty (because previous releases do not support the BCM43255 at all). Used to work perfectly until kernel 2.6.38-4. Then about two weeks ago an upgrade to 2.6.38-6 broke it temporarily. Rebooting into 2.6.38-4 fixed the problem. Now the upgrade to 2.6.38-7 broke it again and I can't get it back. The LED-light indicating the wireless status stays off and there is no way I can turn it back on. [Bug 738657] Re: Broadcom BCM43225 no longer works
Thanks for the hint, Wladimir. I confirm that after blackisting acer_wmi (additionally to the still blacklisted brcm80211) the Fn+F3 key combination to turn the wireless module on and off works. I have not done any further detailed testing, the laptop seems to be working as expected. I have googled for acer wmi and found instructions [0] to provide a DSDT dump which I did. I attach the DSDT dump to this ticket as well, in case it can be of help. Have a good weekend.
