[Bug 61001] Cannot upgrade from dapper to edgy

2006-09-18 Thread Paweł T . Jochym
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

The upgrade fails at firefox localization (en-gb) package and then reports that
this is a bug that should be reported. It is actually possible to finish by
hand if you have some experience, but this is not for avg. user. The install is
a pure (except nxserver packages), freshly updated dapper install prepared just
for this purpose. The logs from /var/log/dist-upgrade are long.
Steps: just run update-manager -c -d

[Bug 61007] moving panel launcher erases details

2006-09-18 Thread Dana Olson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I right-clicked on my panel, added a launcher to launch vncviewer, set
and icon and a name.

Then I clicked it and dragged it to reposition it on my panel. After
letting go of the mouse button, the icon turns into the default question
mark icon.

Right clicking on it and going to the properties of the launcher reveal
that the command, comment, icon, and name have all been wiped.

To make sure I was not imagining this, I tried again with a launcher for
Azureus, and it happened again.

[Bug 61005] https broken when firefox launched by Gnome to view a clicked link

2006-09-18 Thread Mark Shuttleworth
Public bug reported:

My firefox is exhibiting some strange behaviour. If firefox is not
running yet on the system (say, just after system start), and I click on
an https link in, say, an email message (in Thunderbird, not sure if
that's relevant), then the browser is started but displays a message
saying that it cannot communicate with the server. Http URL's work fine,
but https is busted.

If, however, I start firefox manually first, THEN click on the link, it
works fine.

[Bug 60969] Re: [Bug 60969] glom versioned dependency on libglom

2006-09-18 Thread Murray Cumming
Could you use the mailing list, please?

 Public bug reported:

doesn't glom need a versioned dependency on libglom?

 $ dpkg -l | grep glom
 ii glom 1.0.5-0ubuntu1
database designer and user interface
 ii libglom0 1.0.4-0ubuntu1
Glom library (a database designer and user interface) - library

 $ glom
glom: symbol lookup error: glom: undefined symbol:
 _ZN4Glom14ConnectionPool12get_instanceEv

now, granted, i'm running debian testing, rebuilding ubuntu's glom
source package (1.0.4-0ubuntu1 and 1.0.5-0ubuntu1) for it, but the
problem should (at least theoretically) exist in ubuntu.

and yeah, assuming both glom and libglom enter the repository at the
same time (and they should), then an apt-get upgrade should upgrade
both packages at the same time. but if a user executes apt-get install
glom (because they shouldn't also have to list every dependency of
glom) with libglom already installed, then the new glom will fail (as
 demonstrated above).

i believe the problem was caused in 1.0.5 by the addition of the Glom
namespace within glom/libglom/connectionpool.h, changing the name-
mangling from 1.0.4. shouldn't such a change in the API cause a change
in the soname? (though not strictly necessary as glom is the only
application dependent on libglom, but a good policy should the library
be used by others in the future.) but more importantly (pragmatically)
imho is for glom to have a versioned dependency on libglom.

thank you for your packaging of glom!

[Bug 61009] No alsa sound through Motorola V300 phone

2006-09-18 Thread Johan Brannlund
Public bug reported:

I connected my laptop running current Edgy/AMD64 to my Motorola V300
phone with a USB cable (no bluetooth on this phone). I can upload and
download files and ALSA recognizes the phone as a sound device:

$ cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [IXP]: ATIIXP - ATI IXP
ATI IXP rev 2 with unknown codec at 0xd0804000, irq 10
 1 [Modem ]: ATIIXP-MODEM - ATI IXP Modem
ATI IXP Modem rev 2 at 0xd0805000, irq 10
 2 [V300 ]: USB-Audio - Motorola Phone (V300)
Motorola Inc. Motorola Phone (V300) at
usb-:00:13.0-3, full speed

However, it's not possible to play sounds on the phone. Doing mpg321 -s
abilene_full.mp3 |aplay -Dplughw:2 gives no error message, but no sound plays
either.
Doing alsamixer -c2 gives the error message No mixer elems found.

I was told by Daniel Chen (crimsun) that this means that alsa needs a
quirk for this phone. I found a spec sheet at
http://developer.motorola.com/?path=1.2.7.38.545 . Please let me know if
you need any more information.

Usplash is not loading artwork for Kubuntu Edgy. Other users have had
the same problem according to the #ubuntu+1 IRC channel. This seems to
- be from updating to Edgy from Dapper, but not when installing from a CD.
- There is text, a scrolling bar, and various lines, boxes, and colors
- displayed. but not art. After this, every about a graphical boot works
- fine.
+ be from updating to Edgy from Dapper, but this may not be the case when
+ installing from a CD. There is text, a scrolling bar, and various lines,
+ boxes, and colors displayed. but not art. After this, every about a
+ graphical boot works fine.
+
+ Fix: In order to fix the bug, the meta package should depend on
+ usplash-theme-ubuntu. This would install usplash-theme-ubuntu
+ automatically.

[Bug 61011] Unable to use speedstepping in Edgy

2006-09-18 Thread slace
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: powersaved

After recient updates I have no longer been able to use speedstepping on
my laptop.

I get this error when starting powersaved:
FATAL: Error inserting speedstep_centrino
(/lib/modules/2.6.17-6-386/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/speedstep-centrino.ko):

Laptop info:

sudo dmidecode -s system-product-name

I'm still using the 2.6.17-6 kernel as the -7 wont boot for me at all.

Previously speedstepping was previously, with klaptop (and powernowd),
which I uninstalled in favour of powersaved (upon recommendation), and
then it was working for a while with powersaved.

It seems that the pmount package was not properly installed. Was there

[Bug 47932] Re: files renamed to be hidden do not get their icon updated on remote FS view

2006-09-18 Thread Killercow
Ok, i did a quick test.

Creating a file does what is expected, it creates the file in nautilus with a
nice content displaying thumbnail.
Renaming it to a hidden file however, does not remove the file from the view,
but leaves the file name as it was clickable.

An improvement over 5.10 is that it now can be clicked, and nautlius
will magically open the hidden file instead of the visible filename. (so
the underlying link is being updated)

It seems that the timeout can be changed in
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-top/usplash by adding
/sbin/usplash_write TIMEOUT 60 at the end of the file.

What do you think?

[Bug 61014] Desktop Pager backgrounds disappear with applet handles

Public bug reported:

If you have the Desktop Pager set to show desktop wallpaper, there is a bug
when you add or remove applet handles. The desktop pager will remove the
wallpaper from the pager. To reproduce:
1) Right click the Pager applet Pager Options Under Background pick
Desktop Wallpaper
2) Right click on panel Configure Panel Appearance Advanced Options
Change the Applet Handles setting from Hide to Visible or Fade out or
visa versa and click Apply.

[Bug 61018] Risk of deleting important data when RAID fails

2006-09-18 Thread bisho
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: initscripts

When RAID fails because of disk failure a boot could alter the order of
the mdX partitions. If md4 failed to initialize md5 could become md4.

I have a deletion of the contents of a partition because of this (md4
was /tmp). Fortunately md5 was just /var/log so no very important data
was lost but anyway it was frightening just think on the possibility of
deleting de /home because of this.

A way of detecting if the partition is the real tmp would be really
nice. Perhaps a hidden file /tmp/.tmp_partition or better detecting if
there has been any problem with the boot process and skip the deletion.

For now on my /tmp partition will be always the last one.
