[Bug 279688] Re: no X after upgrade with intel controller
Someone at Ubuntu thought that intel driver was better and i810 was obsolete, so they dropped i180 hehehe... Problem is that intel driver has a lot of troubles with i810, being unmaintained or not it's the only driver that works well with the vast majority of i810 configurations. I had a similar problem with GDM that's not working also. See: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/279835 I think I'm going to start some petition asking for the old i810 driver in Intrepid. -- no X after upgrade with intel controller https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/279688 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 267241] Re: [intrepid] X11: no device detected
For me, bug corrected. I've used nvidia-settings to create my xorg.conf file, and it is now working. I think that when you have 2 vga devices, you only need to give BusID for the primary one. The BusID of the second one is guessed. So, i you are encountering problems, Use nvidia-settings to create a valid xorg.conf file and make sure you have a BusID line iin your "device" section. -- [intrepid] X11: no device detected https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/267241 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 279835] Re: Broken Intel Video i810, upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 Beta.
umm ~01:00a.m, finally found the problem. Intel driver + DRI + GDM is not working, adding option to not use DRI in xorg.conf (Option "NoDRI") solves the problem and GDM start nicely -- for the first time in several days :) It's more important to me GDM than DRI support (common, I don't expect to play on a Presario 5000LA), so I can live with it. FPS in glxgears dropped from 200fps to 40fps, but it's ok. [Bug 135075] Re: Dapper cciss driver doesn't handle over 2TB devices.
That's funny, since the bug is that the cciss-driver on _dapper_ doesn't support large devices. The main issue here is what kind of support we really can expect for the LTS releases, you should keep in mind that the LTS-releases are the ones mainly deployed in larger environments where you don't want diverging installations all over the place. Support for newer hardware is essential to be able to use an LTS release for a longer period where new hardware acquisitions are likely to be made. -- Dapper cciss driver doesn't handle over 2TB devices. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/135075 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 277359] Re: MSN group chat makes CPU usage spike
Pidgin 2.4.1 is what is included with Hardy, and what you experienced the crash with. Pidgin 2.5 included a major update of the MSN protocol, which is why it's worth testing with this version. Just a check if the problem still occurs on Intrepid (pidgin 2.5.2) would be great. If you are waiting until Intrepid is released, that is fine. If you're not planning on upgrading, you could try using the version in hardy- backports (pidgin 2.5.0). Check if the problem is there on Intrepid first, and worry about getting a backtrace later. You shouldn't have problems installing anything to get a backtrace though, as all you need are debug symbols (pidgin-dbg) and gdb. -- MSN group chat makes CPU usage spike https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/277359 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 289328] Re: gnome-terminal menus have no mnemonics after upgrade to intrepid RC
Hmm. Since what version has /apps/gnome-terminal/global/use_mnemonics existed? Previously to the upgrade I never touched these options. Did gnome-terminal perhaps default to showing mnemonics once upon a time, but recently changed the default behaviour to hide mnemonics, and my system has been going on the default the whole time? I originally filed this bug thinking the mnemonics were lost in translation between 2.22 and 2.24, because I didn't know they could be turned off at all until I found that setting. If I knew beforehand that this was not the case, I probably wouldn't have bothered with a bug. Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and help us make Ubuntu better. It seems however that the problem you are encountering is coming from the release file from apt-cache, which is generally due to a network or mirror problem and there is not much to do in vmbuilder to fix this. [Bug 217107] Re: Use ttf-liberation for default font
Jan Niklas Hasse wrote on 2008-08-25: >> Mantas Kriaučiūnas wrote on 2008-08-25: (permalink) >> Does ttf-liberation fonts contains characters for non-ascii characters, like >> current ubuntu defaults fonts - ttf-dejavu? > Yes, of course. They are even better hinted: > http://watteimdocht.de/jan-nik/liberation/ (see the greek letters in the > gedit screenshots) That screenshot isn't an evidence because of 2 reasons: 1. All gnome and majority of other modern X applications uses fonconfig library and this library automatically replaces missing characters from other fonts - for example you can see Russian and other letters when choose any font if there are at least one similar font with Russian letters (for example DejaVu) in your system. You can test if by simply pasting text bellow (with Russian and few Lithuanian letter) and choose any font (eg. Courier 10 Pitch doesn't contain Russian and Lithuanian letters) in gedit or OpenOffice: „Я иду домои а вы - нет Ąžuolėlį šienąvę“ 2. Existence of Greek letters isn't enough for default font. DejaVu fonts contains thousands of letters for majority of European and Asian countries, more about coverage of various characters in DejaVu fonts you can read at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DejaVu_fonts and http://dejavu.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/dejavu/tags/version_2_26 /dejavu-fonts/langcover.txt So, I still think, that Liberation fonts doesn't contain characters for popular languages, and, because of this, aren't suitable as default Ubuntu fonts. For example /etc/defoma/hints/ttf-liberation.hints file from ttf-liberation package has specifies, that Liberation fonts covers only ISO8859-1 Charset :( You can compare with the file from ttf-dejavu-core package (/etc/defoma/hints/ttf-dejavu-core.hints ) - as you see DejaVu fonts covers several ISO8859-X Charsets and most importantly - Unicode Charset ISO10646-1 If you have real evidence, that Liberation fonts contains at least major European and Asian Languages like Polish, Greek, Russian, Lithuanian, Latvian, Byelorussian, Czech, etc. and covers big part of Unicode Charset ISO10646-1 then please write an URL to the public source of such information (like this file http://dejavu.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/dejavu/tags/version_2_26 /dejavu-fonts/langcover.txt in DejaVu fonts case) and report a bug against ttf-liberation package to include missing charsets in ttf- liberation.hints file. -- Use ttf-liberation for default font https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/217107 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 282207] Re: [Sierra] NM 0.7 does not set APN for AT&T 3G connection
A small variation of the work-around works with non-branded cards, such as the Swisscom Unlimited Data card, also. If you can set up a working wvdial.conf file, and use wvdial to connect the card once, then remove everything except *99# from the Network Manager configuration as described above, the Swisscom card will then connect through Network Manager. -- [Sierra] NM 0.7 does not set APN for AT&T 3G connection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282207 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
