[Bug 150374] Re: [needs-packaging] ledgersmb get added to the repositories
I am continuing to develop and release this on the Alioth/Debian side (and I also am in charge of uploading said .deb to sourceforge), and will probably work to get it into Squeeze once Lenny goes stable since LedgerSMB now supports Postgres 8.3. Then Ubuntu can grab from there. Else, if someone wants to volunteer to spearhead Ubuntu packaging prior to that I'd be willing to help out, but as much as I want to I simply don't have the time to learn everything I need to learn to get it into Ubuntu on my own. We also still are looking for help to get auto configuration of postgres and apache2 into the package, right now there is a README.Debian which walks you through default configuration of both manually. -- [needs-packaging] ledgersmb get added to the repositories https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/150374 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 305267] [NEW] iwl3945 Wireless Driver - Random System Freezes
Public bug reported: When not connected to a wireless access point and the wireless card is idle scanning for access points the following message is output in both dmesg and kern.log repeatedly with less than a second in between: [ 119.885976] iwl3945: Error sending REPLY_LEDS_CMD: iwl3945_enqueue_hcmd failed: -28 [ 119.885994] iwl3945: No space for Tx. Further investigation lead me to install ubuntu 7.10 and run similar tests and found that the previous driver ipw3945 did not output these errors when idle. The release of kernel 2.6.27-9 made this matter worse and caused me to revert to kernel 2.6.27-7:14, but this kernel still freezes and the same errors are occuring. It is my belief from these logs and comparison between ubuntu 7.10 and 8.10 that when iwl3945 replaced ipw3945 in 8.04 (the reason I did not update to 8.10 in the first place) it is more than a mere coincidence that the time I started experiencing system freezes is in fact due to a flaw in the new wireless driver iwl3945. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- iwl3945 Wireless Driver - Random System Freezes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305267 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 305264] [NEW] gnutls regression: failure in certificate chain validation
Public bug reported: I noticed recently that landscape-client could no longer contact our staging server. Fortunately, contacting the production server is still ok. This command is an easy way to reproduce the problem. It is failing against staging.landscape.canonical.com: gnutls-cli -V --x509cafile /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt staging.landscape.canonical.com I tried it in dapper, feisty, gutsy, hardy and intrepid. It only works in feisty, and I'm guessing it's because feisty is EOL'ed and didn't get an update. I concentrated the rest of my tests in dapper. With libgnutls12_1.2.9-2ubuntu1_i386.deb it works. [Bug 303748] Re: Patch to add (almost complete) support for detecting Nokia N-series and E-series phones
No, you misunderstood me I think. Nokia Nseries and Eseries are all S60 Symbian phones, they all provide the same modem functionality. What I wanted to add in my previous comment is that it would be a good idea to wade through the rest of the phones and find out which ones with the naming scheme are *also* S60. But this patch is a good beginning to add full support for all Nokia phones. It's safe to add it. [Bug 305088] Re: New translation suggestions in project The Mana World
Yes, that's right. When I was creating my own project in LP I also thought I will create my own translation group, but after that I found out that only very few projects use this approach, so I used just Open policy. Furthermore it is not possible to create a group automatically but you have to ask for it (I guess). That doesn't mean you can't do it. I would recommend you to ask for the right approach in Rosetta Answers (please subscribe me also, if you do it). But in every case Ubuntu Translators is not the right group. If you want just gather translator credits, you can let Rosetta do it automatically and no groups are needed. Just insert translators-credits string into translations. See https://translations.launchpad.net/esmska/trunk/+pots/esmska/sk/344/+translate Lubos, it should be now possible to translate The Mana World for you. You just have to go through your suggestions and use copy text button to copy your suggestions into (now real) translation fields. -- New translation suggestions in project The Mana World https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305088 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 296167] Re: X.org will stop responding to mouse clicks on Ibex with Xinerama. Occurs frequently, Fatal Error.
I hadn't expected that others would be so interested in how to downgrade or I wouldn't have taken some notes. Here is what I did as best I can remember: Logged in to a text console as root and shut down X with '/etc/init.d/gdm stop'. Add the following lines to my /etc/apt/sources.list : deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy main deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy-updates main deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy-security main At this point I tried to purge all the xorg packages I could with: cd /var/lib/dpkg/info/ dpkg --purge `ls *xorg*.list | sed s/.list// ` Obviously it won't remove all the packages because of the dependencies of other packages. I am starting to think that step wasn't necessary as I think the next step would have resulted in those packages being removed anyway. After a little trial and error I found that I needed to downgrade the following packages on my system. ( note I have a matrox card, so please substitute the correct video driver for your hardware in place of the mga driver ): apt-get --reinstall install x11-common/hardy xorg/hardy xserver- xorg/hardy xserver-xorg-core/hardy xserver-xorg-input-kbd/hardy xserver- xorg-input-mouse/hardy xserver-xorg-video-mga/hardy After that I restarted the X with /etc/init.d/gdm start and logged in and everything worked for me. The final step was to go into synaptic and lock those 7 packages so the upgrade manager would stop bothering me. -- X.org will stop responding to mouse clicks on Ibex with Xinerama. Does the Ethernet part of the combo card work (can you connect if you plug your ThinkPad [running Ubuntu] into the network?) If it does, you can make a shared folder on your Ubuntu machine by right clicking a folder and sharing it. You can also access shared folders using Places - Network. What kind of card is the WG511v2? Can you only connect over WiFi (if the ThinkPad has internal Ethernet, you shouldn't need a wired PC card)? I have a Buffalo WLI-CB-G54S WiFi PC card that works fine in mine, also have a D-Link PC Card Ethernet (since mine doesn't have the combo card) which also works fine. What happens when you connect the PC card to your ThinkPad while it's running Ubuntu? Re: [Bug 290885] Re: SRU: Backport of Boot Degraded RAID functionality from Intrepid to Hardy
Dustin Kirkland [2008-12-04 12:51 -]: Would would you think of adding a bit to the grub postinst that detected if you were upgrading from a certain version, and if you have root (or /boot) on a RAID device, and if so, run grub-install on that device? That doesn't seem to be a problem which got introduced with these patches? I. e. if you didn't have grub on the other device, it formerly would fail to boot, too? I am a bit nervous about automatically changing the boot sector of already installed systems, TBH. There might be cases where people explicitly configured it that way. So adding a postinst snippet to detect this situation is fine, of course. Or is the problem that configuration files actually *say* please install grub on all devices, but we just didn't? In that case this change would be okay for me. [Bug 235399] Re: Print black does not use black ink cartridge
Aaron, here I think HPLIP (Mary, HPLIP is HP's driver package for their printers and multi-function devices) should get more user-friendly. As HPLIP PPDs are noe generated by CUPS DDK and not by Foomatic any more, one could introduce an Installable Options group in which the administrator can tell which hardware configuration of the given printer is actually used, like we know already from the PostScript models. UIConstraints can hide or gray (depends on the application's UI) extra trays or duplex settings if appropriate accessories are not installed. For LIDIL printers (and generally printers where the driver must know about the actually installed cartridges) the group can in addition contain also an InkSet option, in which the user configures which cartridges he has actually installed. An UI constraint will then exclude the Quality settings which are not suitable for the given ink set. This would break the PrintoutMode option, as the Quality settings behind of some of its choices could be disqualified by the given ink set. And we must conserve the PrintoutMode option, as in the Common Printing Dialog (https://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/CommonPrintingDialog) it will translate into the Quick Preset buttons. So we do not let the PrintoutMode option be a Foomatic composite option any more. We let Quality, PrintoutMode, and InkSet all inject command line fragments into the GhostScript/HPIJS command line. If Quality is not set to FromPrintoutMode HPIJS will use the Quality setting (and perhaps use the closest suitable or exit with an error if it conflicts with InkSet). If Quality is set to FromPrintoutMode HPIJS will take the PrintoutMode setting and look up in an internal table which Quality it has to use dependent on the given InkSet and PrintoutMode. This way the default setting of PrintoutMode is always Normal and of Quality always FromPrintoutMode. Modern printer setup tools automatically ask the user for setting the Installable Options and so the user gets asked which cartridges he has. So InkSet gets set correctly and the printer makes always best use of the cartridges. And if the suer switches to Draft, High, or Photo HPIJS uses the Quality setting which makes best use of the cartridges in these modes. Aaron (or anyone else there at HP), what do you think? -- Print black does not use black ink cartridge https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/235399 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 151146] Re: Kernel Panic - not syncing: VFS after upgrade.
Update. I'm not sure how GRUB came to be missing the initrd entry for the Intrepid menu item. As I added it manually I don't feel inclined to try and track down the cause. The failure to load the Hardy kernel appears to be because the upgrade removed all the Hardy kernels but the original -19 *but* left the corresponding GRUb menu entries intact. Therefore, when I selected to boot from Hardy I picked the first item (the -22 kernel) for which the kernel and initrd files had been deleted. [Bug 305282] [NEW] VICE package info reports no ROMs included, but .deb has them
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vice According to apt-cache: This package does not contain the various ROM images needed to actually use the emulators; they are available separately from other locations (see the README.ROMs file). A corporation in the Netherlands called Tulip holds the copyrights to the ROM images, and redistribution is not permitted, but VICE itself is unencumbered. Yet, if one does 'apt-get install vice', all of the emulated machines include ROM images. If the ROMs are under current valid copyright, they should not be in the package. NOTE: Debian includes these ROMs with its own .deb, so is it okay to leave them in Ubuntu as well? [Bug 305281] [NEW] log_to_console() function breaks when /proc is missing
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: lsb-base This report concerns the /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh file, in lsb-base 3.2-14ubuntu2 in Intrepid. The log_to_console() function in this file breaks when there is no /proc filesystem, and set -e is in effect. (Note how it does readlink /proc/self/fd/0, without bothering to check that /proc/self exists.) Why would /proc be missing, you ask? In my case, I am debconf- configuring the console-setup package inside a freshly-unpacked chroot Ubuntu system: chroot /target /usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure console- setup. The debconf script invokes the init.d script, and the init.d script uses set -e, with the end result that the dpkg-reconfigure procedure exits with an error. (One could argue the point that you should mount a copy of procfs under /target/proc before running dpkg-reconfigure, but the shell function's use of /proc is not particularly critical. I think it is reasonable for the function to be able to work without /proc, and presume that stdin != /dev/null in that case.) I am attaching a trivial patch that fixes this issue. ** Affects: lsb (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- log_to_console() function breaks when /proc is missing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305281 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
