[Bug 409366] Re: Secondary groups not working with NFS
I am having a similar problem, which has not been solved by the removal of --manage-gids in /etc/default/nfs-kernel-server of the Karmic client PC. I did a sudo /etc/init.d/nfs-kernel-server restart on the Karmic client, though it is irrelevant, I believe. I am mounting a user directory from a Fedora7 PC (linux0) NFS server. On the client (Ubuntu Karmic) PC a user (js) who also belongs to the group 'family tries to read file /home/as/MyFiles/Calendar.ics mounted from linux0 with the permissions -rw-r- 1 as family. This is a problem ONLY in a client PC running Ubuntu Karmic 9.10. It works fine on any other PC running any other version of Ubuntu. I have tested this on several Ubuntu PCs using Karmic, Hardy, Jaunty etc. The user's id is: uid=1001(js) gid=1001(js) groups=1001(js),4(adm),20(dialout),21(fax),24(cdrom),26(tape),29(audio),30(dip),44(video),46(plugdev),103(fuse),104(lpadmin),112(netdev),115(admin),120(sambashare),1999(family),1100(parents) When I try less /home/as/MyFiles/Calendar.ics on a PC running Karmic I get Permission denied. I believe that Karmic still has a bug. -- Secondary groups not working with NFS https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/409366 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: The GIO sublibrary in GLib has a function called prepend_terminal_to_vector, which prepare a command line by prepending it with a valid X terminal name before executing it. The function as distributed in Glib first search for gnome-terminal before trying several well-known terminal application. I believe this is not acceptable in a distribution like Ubuntu, which supports the x-terminal-emulator alternative to set the preferred terminal to the user. As it is right now, gnome-panel simply ignores the chosen x-terminal-emulator as well as the GNOME preferred terminal application (and that is another bug!) I don't know any other application which expose this bug other than gnome-panel. Glib applications in Ubuntu should default to x-terminal- emulator before trying any other kind of terminal emulator. ** Affects: glib2.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- ignores x-terminal-emulator https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/501192 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 447747] Re: karmic - mountall fails to mount filesystem on boot
I'm having the same problem when I updated from 9.04 to 9.10. I'm fairly new to linux/ubuntu so I don't know how I'm supposed to correct the kernel to 2.6.31? I tried many of the suggestions posted here and related posts but unable to get through them without errors. I tried what itsjareds suggested in post #28 but it displayed an error when upgrading. I also tried what Mark Jackson Pulver suggested in this post #4 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/128313) but I didn't work and I tried to locate the 2.6.31 kernel package but don't know the exact name I should input. I've burned a recovery disk and working from there but have no idea how to move forward. During the GUI upgrade process, I kept the menu.lst rather than replacing it with the new one and I think that's where the problems lie. I've attached a screenshot of the error (which is similar to the ones posted above). I'm just not sure of the actual command lines/steps I need to take to fix this. Re: [Bug 469376] Re: USB device insertion causes total system lockup on Ubuntu 9.10
I reported this problem quite some time ago, and considering it causes a total system lockup, I am surprised I cannot seem get anyone interested to actually do anything to get this fixed, but I have now confirmed what is actually happening. In a nutshell, when the USB subsystem detects the Quicksilver modem, it hands off to the Gnome Network Manager, which in turn hands off to the new Gnome Modem Manager. The Gnome Modem Manager then grabs the ttyHS* ports even though it has no idea how to handle the Quicksilver ttyHS* devices correctly and proceeds to lock up the entire computer in it's persistant efforts to do exactly the wrong thing. I have not found a way to tell Gnome Network Manager and/or it's partner in this abuse Gnome Modem Manager to back off and do not touch the Quicksilver ttyHS* devices because they obviously do not know how to handle and control these devices correctly. A drakonian approach is to simply completely uninstall Gnome Network Manager and Gnome Modem Manager. However this also eliminates the good things they do for wired and wifi connections. Unfortunately I have not yet found a better way to address this issue. [Bug 501201] [NEW] Trouble with subtitles and Start playing files from last position
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox This is not a bug in the program's function, but rather an odd way for it to function: I have Start playing files from last position checked in the Preferences menu. I load a video file with subtitles and let it play for some time, then close Rhythmbox. Double-clicking the same file again will start the video file playback as expected, but without subtitles. Loading the subtitles causes the file to restart playback from the beginning of the file. So, this would defeat the purpose of having my file start from the last played position. I think this could be more user friendly in a few possible ways: 1) have subtitle files load automatically when Start playing files from last position is selected. 2) when loading subtitles, have the film resume from its original position, rather than restarting the file. [Bug 501203] [NEW] No sound from Radeon HD 4650 - HDMI Output
Public bug reported: This bug has been automatically assigned to the alsa-driver package based on instruction provided in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems for creating a bug but not sure if it is an alsa-driver issue. This is a fresh install of 9.10 on an HP Slimline s3100e PC with a HD Radeon 4650 card. I can get video out of HDMI with no problem but I can not get audio out of HDMI. aplay -L returns the following: -- hdmi:CARD=HDMI HDA ATI HDMI, ATI HDMI HDMI Audio Output null Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture) pulse Playback/recording through the PulseAudio sound server -- However, I noticed in other peoples posting that first line of the the aplay -L output normally has a DEV=0 at the end. My output does not. Don't know if this is a problem. aplay -l (lower case L) shows the following: --- List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices card 0: HDMI [HDA ATI HDMI], device 3: ATI HDMI [ATI HDMI] Subdevices: 0/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 Also, alsamixer screen displays the following: --- Card: HDA ATI HDMI │ │ Chip: ATI R6xx HDMI │ │ View: [Playback] Capture All│ │ Item: IEC958 │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ ┌──┐ │ │ │OO│ │ │ └──┘ │ │ │ │ IEC958 │ -- As you can see it is unmuted however, i can not increase the volume here. It stays at 00. Some other posting I have seen is creating a file called /etc/asound.conf and added the following lines: pcm.!default hdmi:HDMI pcm.iec958 hdmi:HDMI Tried it (even rebooted) and it didn't work. And yet another solution was to created a file called /etc/modprobe.d/hda_intel.conf and add the following line: options snd-hda-intel model=auto probe_mask=1 This also did not work (even after reboot). I'm seriously at a loss here and do not know what else to do. I'm fairly new to linux (disclaimer). I have not downloaded any of the proprietary drivers for this card. I would prefer to stay away from that but if it's the only option then I would give it a go. [Bug 364984] Re: couldn't install java docs
It would be fine to un-confirm; How would I do that? Also, in future, are there fundamental logs that I can post with bug reports at the time of bug? As far as a 'precise' description, I can make a general attempt, but it was so long ago that I don't think it would be accurte to the point of my own memory 'filling' in blanks.. However, my issue had to do with incoming data through network, not about package installation itself, but that it had to download to do so and would (seemingly radomly) crash. This particular error was the only thing that would catch to report. At first it seemed that any D/L bundles around 600-900mbytes or video streams for 20+ mins would incur the crash ( crash = system freeze/unresponsiveness ), then it began doing so on smaller package installs such as what included the sun-java6-doc*. I suspected hardware, so I stripped all extra hardware; i.e. 4x 2G memory down to one 2G stick at a time, rotating them each (same) failure, stripped swapped the two video cards, turned off all unessessary periphrials in BIOS, as well as using different nics, All with stress testing.. crash always came back in each config, while network was actively d/l'ing. Could be mobo/cpu.. The Only way it stopped was either to go back to Ubuntu Studio 8.10 or use ubuntu 9.04. I assume the bug report also reports the flavor of ubuntu, but if not I first Upgraded from studio 8.10 to studio 9.04 with no probs, except from what I did to it, and needed to do a clean install to studio 9.04, which is where this issue presented itself.. All in all, If the moderator feels that it's nessessary to null this report, feel free to do so- I moved on from this.. [Bug 347045] Re: Totem won't autoplay DVD
I finally found what causes the Could not open location; you might not have permission to open the file when auto playing a DVD. In XFCE, go to the Removable Drives and Media setting (Applications, Settings) and then on the multimedia tab, change the default command for Video CDs/DVDs from totem dvd:/ to totem dvd:// The last slash is missing for some reason. Once I added the second / to the command, totem worked flawlessly when auto playing a DVD. I am using totem with the gstreamer backend and not xine. I realize that this has absolutely nothing to do with totem, but it is still present in Xubuntu 9.10, and this bug report was high on the google search results. -- Totem won't autoplay DVD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/347045 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
