[Bug 1673414] Re: sched_getcpu on ppc64le produces an illegal instruction

2017-03-20 Thread Colin Ian King
This issue also appears in Ubuntu...
  Xenial 4.4.0-66-generic + libc 2.23-0ubuntu5
  Yakkety 4.8.0-41-generic + libc 2.24-3ubuntu2
  Zesty 4.10.0-11-generic + libc 2.27-7ubuntu2

I've not gone back any further, but it is not a regression in Zesty per
se.

And also occurs Debian Jessie 8.8
  3.16.0-4-powerpc64le + libc 2.19-18+deb8u7

I'm using qemu-system-ppc 2.8+dfsg-3ubuntu2

[Bug 1674043] Re: Problems of installation of the Ubuntu 12.04.5 in an Intel Atom CPU N455 1.66GHz x2 32bit 1.6GB of disk

2017-03-20 Thread Phillip Susi
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you
are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the
support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are
uncertain if they are bugs. You can also find help posting your problem
in the support forum of your local Ubuntu's community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at http://askubuntu.com. For help on
reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

Not only that, it also runs v5, so it's even worse than just a

[Bug 1455520] Re: systemd-shim executes 'poweroff' after resuming from suspend-to-memory(S3)

2017-03-20 Thread raff
I have a very similar problem, but my laptop doesn't go through
/sbin/shutdown: it turns off abruptly as if I had pulled the power plug.
Always after 1 minute exactly.

I'd like to investigate this, if anyone has any idea what to try please
tell me. I suspect it is related to Intel Rapid Start, but I already
deactivated it in the bios.

[Bug 1674295] [NEW] No wifi access for guest unless a user is already logged in

2017-03-20 Thread Doug McMahon
Public bug reported:

In 16.04.x guest sessions get no wifi access unless a user is already
logged in, i.e. one has to open a guest session from a user session.

In 14.04 wifi is automatically enabled for a guest session, in 17.04 a
guest needs to enter wifi password & create a keyring.

Test case:
Boot up to a machine using wifi that's password protected, at greeter choose
guest.
Once logged in notice nm-applet is running but no connection.
Click on icon, choose a network, click on it.

[Bug 1627828] Re: iwl3945 crashes randomly

2017-03-20 Thread korgman
I have response from "intel-driver-man" and I think he is right. I
indeed manually enabled powersaving via powertop.

I quote:
"This could be caused by power save, which is disable by default
in the driver but some programs/distribution seems to enable
it without user knowlage. First check:

$ iw dev wlan0 get power_save

and if PS is enabled, disable by:

$ iw dev wlan0 set power_save off

and check if problem still happen.

@drwt about your remark:
> I looked at all kernel versions that had changes committed to iwlwifi and
> tested between them.
>
> I now have determined that I do not have this issue in the kernel version
> 4.4.4.
>
> I do have the issue in 4.4.6 and that is the next kernel version that has
> changes to iwlwifi so I guess that is the first bad version."

This does not make sense as 3945 device is handled by

[Bug 1665698] Re: /etc/qemu-ifup not allowed by apparmor

2017-03-20 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
The change in Openstack is in Ocata only, if you run Ocata on Zesty or
Xenial+UCA-Ocata you should be good already with the fix above.

I'm considering to backport it to Yakkety where libvirt is in the broken
state (script is handled by libvirt, but it doesn't know about "" being
meant to be a no-op). Looking into that somewhen this week.

But I won't backport to Xenial (makes no sense, the code it fixes isn't there
at all).
And that means UCA-Newton on Xenial as well won't get a fix as it does not
apply.
I'm open to a community driven fix for it in Xenial, but there IMO the override
in the apparmor is more likely the right way to do it.

The problem that is left IMHO is that the openstack change from passing
'path=""' to "not passed at all" is suboptimal, as this is "defined" in
qemu/libvirt as "fall back to default path". But that fix would have to
be in Openstack.

2017-03-20 Thread Logan V
The OpenStack change is not just in Ocata. It was also backported to
Newton. Please note the merged OpenStack patch in #4 is on branch
stable/newton. We need this fix in Newton UCA as well please.

Would be great if someone could at least respond to this 8+ month old
bug.

We're still suffering from this Qt bug, and have to put in lots of ugly
workarounds to mitigate it.

I'm not sure, should I subscribe someone else to this, and if so, who?

[Bug 1525285] Re: Unity8 deadlock when trying to screenshot without a current gst registry

2017-03-20 Thread Michał Sawicz
** Summary changed:

- inspecting clutter plugin hangs outside X11
+ Unity8 deadlock when trying to screenshot without a current gst registry

** Description changed:

The Ubuntu Error Tracker has been receiving reports about a problem
regarding unity8. This problem was most recently seen with version
  8.11+16.04.20151126-0ubuntu2, the problem page at
  https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/811233d22c3b1dcb08f9f596e5dbf9d0e23e4220
  contains more details.

- Anything that wants to update the gstreamer registry outside of a X11
- session, when the clutter plugin is present, will deadlock.
+ Inspecting gst-clutter causes it to try and connect to the display
+ server. When it's unity8 that triggered the registry update, registry
+ generation blocks while gst-clutter tries to connect back to unity8.
+ That results in a deadlock, because we're unable to answer the
+ authorization challenge because we're blocked by the registry
+ generation.
+
+ This is a bug in either gst-clutter or libclutter (filed upstream), but
+ we should try and make sure that we don't block on this either.

  To reproduce:
- - log in on vt (with no graphical session)
+ - log in to unity8
  - rm ~/.cache/gstreamer-1.0/registry.x86_64.bin
- - gst-inspect-1.0
- - behold
+ - press PrtScr to get a screenshot
+ - deadlock

  To recover:
  - start an X11 session
  - gst-inspect-1.0

2017-03-20 Thread Timo Aaltonen
-libinput has been the default since 16.10 where it replaced -evdev
(-input-all pulls -libinput), so I don't consider this a blocker, since
it doesn't seem to be a widespread issue (I can't reproduce it with a
mouse either). Feel free to file a bug against -libinput, upstream too
if you can.

[Bug 1658921] Re: NetworkManager does not manage wired connection

2017-03-20 Thread Raphaël Jakse
Bug #1638842 has been marked as a duplicate of this one, and also has
been marked Won't Fix (before this bug was reported). So if we want the
current behavior to be changed, we need to discuss.

Reason of the current behavior is given in Comment 7 of Bug #1638842:
“On desktop images we want NM to manage everything, thus the installer
creates /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-devices.conf. But
on a server, container, or similar environment we do NOT want NM to
suddenly take over existing connections from netplan, networkd, or
ifupdown -- there it should be restricted to wifi and 3G.”

I agree with the idea and I can imagine that even if I cannot think of a
case where NM is installed in a container / on a server without wanting
it to manage connections, the current behavior works around a real
problem that as been encountered and that chroot installation of Ubuntu
Desktops might have been forgotten in the process.

Now, installing Ubuntu using chroot is convenient and the easiest method
is some cases, and as we can see in the comments here, people really do
it so this should work as expected. In this setting, the current
behavior is confusing. By default, nothing shows that NM is configured
not to manage wired and Bluetooth connection. I lost almost a day
because of this. It should at least be explicit in the configuration and
in the logs. And NM changing its behavior because an empty configuration
file exists at /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-
devices.conf seems weird to me.

I agree that solving the initial problem is probably important, but I
think that breaking things so badly for people installing Ubuntu using
chroot is wrong and that the installation of Ubuntu should be a process
that remains simple and intuitive. Making the Ubuntu installer create
/etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-devices.conf and make NM
work as expected when this file exists looks like a hack to me, and a
fragile behavior.

A better solution might be to make network-manager manage connections as
expected when *-desktop packages are installed. But it is not sufficient
as some people don't install these packages in their desktop setup to
avoid installing things they don't use.

2017-03-20 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local setup problem, rather
than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete for now.

If the suggested fix to resolve did not help or if you believe that this
is really a bug, then you may find it helpful to read "How to report
bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html.
We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description
of the problem, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather
than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status
back to New.

[Bug 238010] Re: lts.conf doesn't get transferred to the clients

2017-03-20 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
The KVM TFTP server also complains about "unsupported mode" when doing
text transfers, so I've switched to binary mode in
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ltsp-upstream/ltsp/ltsp-
trunk/revision/2774.

It might be a bug in other packages, but it's impossible for LTSP
developers to send patches to all TFTP servers that don't support text
transfers. I'm not even sure if it's mandated from the TFTP protocol or
not.

Hi,
I haven't found anything in the logs that points to a more specific root cause
that could be solved. In general for cases like that I follow and recommend a
procedure like this:

Could you report back if this didn't solve it for you?

[Bug 1674271] [NEW] [Feature Request] Compile kernel 4.10 with KVMGT support

2017-03-20 Thread GizmoChicken
Public bug reported:

I haven't yet tested the version of kernel 4.10 that is being supplied
with Zesty, so what I am requesting may already be present. But if not
already present, please consider the following:

Please enable CONFIG_DRM_I915_GVT and CONFIG_DRM_I915_GVT_KVMGT in
".config", which depends on CONFIG_VFIO_MDEV and
CONFIG_VFIO_MDEV_DEVICE.

Enabling the above should allow using Intel's KVMGT (iGVT-g for KVM)
without need for compiling a custom kernel.

More information regarding Intel's KVMGT (iGVT-g for KVM) can be found here:
https://github.com/01org/gvt-linux/wiki/GVTg_Setup_Guide#32-build-kernel

[Bug 1653456] Re: ASUS G752VS: Touchpad and Fn keys not working (Ubuntu 16.04.1/16.10/17.04)

2017-03-20 Thread aljosa
I added requested option to /etc/default/grub:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash asus-wmi.dyndbg=+p
asus-nb-wmi.dyndbg=+p"
After that I executed "update-grub" to update the changes and then rebooted.

I pressed all of the Fn keys in the following order:

(FUNCTIONAL)
Fn+F1
Puts the Notebook PC into Sleep mode
Fn+F2
Turns Airplane mode on or off
Fn+F3
Decreases brightness for the backlit keyboard
Fn+F4
Increases brightness for the backlit keyboard
Fn+F5
Decreases display brightness
Fn+F6
Increases display brightness
Fn+F7
Turns the display panel on or off
Fn+F8
Toggles the display mode
Fn+F9
Enables or disables the touchpad

(NON-FUNCTIONAL)
Fn+F10
Turns the speaker on or off
Fn+F11
Turns the speaker volume down
Fn+F12
Turns the speaker volume up

Here's attached my DMESG output.

[Bug 1673885] Re: package exim4-daemon-heavy 4.86.2-2ubuntu2.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-03-20 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi Michele,
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.

The logs do not indicate a particular issue I could help you with.
But this kind of issues mostly happen due to individual configuration that
either:
- doesn't work but users stop to care about the package (e.g. try something but
give up)
- works on the former, but not the new version of the package.

As the error recommends, sometimes the full output of: `See "systemctl
status exim4.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.` can help to
pinpoint the issue, but mostly people succeed by backing up their config
and reverting it to the default one, then the upgrade runs fine and then
adapt the new version to your custom configuration.

But that depends a lot on your setup e.g. would you loose any data by
dropping your old config for the upgrade.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

Please report back if dropping or adapting your custom configuration made it
upgrading.
If not fixed share any extra data on the configuration and the issue that you
are encounter.

Not sure why it builds in Debian but not Ubuntu. If you need a quick
fix, adding a build-dependency on libsha-ocaml-dev should cause it to
use that instead of openssl (the build log says "sha (ocaml-sha) not
found; using OpenSSL instead").

[Bug 1638842] Re: network-manager does not manage ethernet and bluetooth interfaces when Ubuntu 16.10 is installed using chroot/netboot method

Same problem after an upgrade from 16.04 to 16.10 via "do-release-
upgrade". However in my case the issue occurred not for Ethernet or
Bluetooth, but for Mobile Broadband (device ttyUSB2 of type gsm over
interface ppp0). So, the changelog comment 'we definitely want NM to
manage wifi and mobile data' is not really holding. Could it be the
author erroneously supposed mobile data is only transferred over the
wwan interface? In that case, the issue should indeed be fixed.

[Bug 1647936] Re: Raspberry Pi 3: a small rainbow square on the top right of screen

2017-03-20 Thread Oliver Grawert
@gerald: right, there is no way to protect you from turning the device
into a brick if this step goes wrong (unlike kernel or rootfs we can not
roll back the bootloader)

note that the gadget snap from edge will not have a working dtb for the
old kernel which will likely make you end up with an unbootable device.
sadly on the pi the dtb gets loaded by the binary blob which is why we
can not just use it from the kernel snap (which would fix this problem).
