If you file it, the output in the journal might already indicate a
problem that can be fixed.

If you don't, no fix will happen.

[Bug 1786922] [NEW] Unity keyboard shortcuts stopped working after update

2018-08-14 Thread Diogo Miguel Constantino dos Santos
Public bug reported:

After running the latest updates on 16.04, Unity keyboard shortcuts stopped
working.
Examples of shortcuts that stopped working:
 * move window to a workspace other workspaces (shift + ctrl + alt + arrow key)
 * move to workspace (ctrl + alt + arrow)
 * make windows stick to edges (ctrl + super + arrow keys)

This breaks my workflow and renders Unity much less usable :(

[Bug 1771914] Re: release-upgrade-motd can't update message via apt proxy

2018-08-14 Thread Tapani Tarvainen
apt-cacher-ng can work around this without patching, just add

PassThroughPattern: ^changelogs.ubuntu.com:443$

to /etc/apt-cacher-ng/acng.conf

Perhaps that could even be put in to apt-cacher-ng package?

[Bug 1421443] Re: suspending xubuntu live session locks screen and requires password

Should the "lock-on-suspend" behavior be changed?

default-settings.gsettings-override#n4

Or, maybe it is possible to automatically fill the username input field
with "xubuntu", and therefore avoid the username guessing.

[Bug 783918] Re: Brasero ejects CD before burning audio CD

2018-08-14 Thread Pierre
Sorry to said that the thread isn't already solved
unbuntu 18.04
Today, I've set up the rhythmbox player to have the ability to burn audio cd
and before the burning, the Cd was ejected all times. with rhythmbox or inside
brasero for audio projects.
Audio Cd's already in use, yes, yes.

-Brasero was installed within software installer.

-Cdrkit also installed (installed with the brasero installation).
sudo apt-get install brasero-cdrkit
->Brasero cdrkit already install in the last version

-Plugin for rhythmbox installed
sudo apt-get install rhythmbox-plugin-cdrecorder

So i've said many times that Brasero is a bullshit program, 40 years
that audio cd burning exist and is there the only one program in 2018 to
bug at this time. to stay calm and professional, I've tried to install
Xfburn (k3b cannot already being install on 64bit), and he works
perfectly at the first try with drag and drop playlist from rhythmbox.

[Bug 1188569] Re: Some keyboard shortcuts randomly stop working

2018-08-14 Thread Khurshid Alam
For Unity (18.10, 18.04):
--

1) All default shortcuts (super+L, ctrl+alt+l) works on fresh install.
For some people toggling custom-commands from ccsm (compiz-config-
settings-manager) makes everything works. But hard to reproduce.

2) Custom keybinding shortcuts will not work until a re-login. Possibly
a bug in unity-settings-daemon. see bug #1435020

3) Print-screen, alt+Print-screen have some problem with key-press vs
key-release due to ubuntu removing 6 years old xorg patch. see LP:
#1683383

4) Key combination which are hard-coded (ex. ctrl+alt+backspace to kill
x-server) doesn't not if it is set to do other things. Possibly bug in
u-s-d.

5) Media keys (Volume and Mute etc) doesn't work for some people. But it
is most likely device specific. For me it works. Some make it work after
restarting u-s-d (unity-settings-daemon -r &) or toggling commands
plugin from ccsm. See bug #1727842

To debug properly do this on fresh install:

1) Open terminal on unity.
2) Run "unity-settings-daemon -r --debug", keep it open
3) Now Try removing existing custom shortcut from Unity control center ->
keyboard -> shortcuts
4) Try re-adding the shortcut.
5) Paste the output from terminal on https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/

Other sessions with g-s-d:

For gnome sessions it could be this bug #1750846, though I am not sure.

In the past week or two, cosmic has failed to finish booting in about
half of all cases (on multiple machines). The problem is that the
graphical login screen never appears. Instead the machine stays on a
  text console.

  WORKAROUND:
I can force the system to finish booting and make the login screen appear
just by switching VTs and back:
- Ctrl+Alt+F4, Ctrl+Alt+F1
+   Ctrl+Alt+F4, Ctrl+Alt+F1
Then within a second or so the login screen appears.

The cosmic login screen flickers to black a few times on boot and then
finally settles on using Xorg instead of Wayland.

I can tell because from ssh user 'gdm' is running:

  /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg vt2 -displayfd 3 -auth /run/user/121/gdm/Xauthority
-background none -noreset -keeptty -verbose 3

[Bug 1786821] Re: pam.7.gz is a symlink to PAM.7.gz . This does not work for caseinsensitive filesystems e.g. Windows Subsystem for Linux

2018-08-14 Thread Markus Werner
Hi Balint,

dpkg -i libpam-runtime* will throws an error cause it trys to symlink pam.7.gz
to PAM.7.gz since Windows filesystem is case*in*sensitive this both files are
the same and so the symlink will get refused cause the file already exists.
So apt upgrade won't work on Windows. Maybe there is also a Windows way to
upgrade Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) but since apt tools are working it
should be fix IMHO.

So if there is no reason behind "PAM && pam" it would be good if it
will be removed. If there is a reason maybe the postinstall scripts
could generate the symlink after checking that it is a casesensitive fs.

Thanks for the msdn link. I will check if it works. This might be a
solution, cause other linux packages might have the same issue.

Markus

[Bug 1782984] Re: PCManFM crashes frequently on Lubuntu 18.04

2018-08-14 Thread prrvchr
Hi,

I can confirm this bug .. on Lubuntu 18.04 ...
I already had the same one on Lubuntu 17.04 ...
PCManFM unexpectedly closes when you open a folder and it seems to be more
common when the option 'Preserve directory's settings' is enabled

Thank you for reporting this problem to Ubuntu.

Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick) reached end-of-life on April 10, 2012.

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:

2018-08-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Downgrading to gdm3 3.29.90 somewhat avoided the problem and reverted to
bug 1786872. But when VT switching to work around that one I managed to
reproduce this crash again, even with gdm3 3.29.90-2ubuntu1.

Finally got a crash report from Xwayland this time -> bug 1786914

[Bug 1786919] [NEW] Ubuntu version upgrade stops and asks to report a bug

2018-08-14 Thread Alessandro
Public bug reported:

The version of the package ubuntu-release-upgrader-core is 1:16.04.25
This is the message I get during the upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04.

It is in Italian due to my language settings:

Impossibile calcolare l'avanzamento

Si è verificato un problema irrisolvibile durante il calcolo
dell'avanzamento.

 I motivi possono essere:
 * L'avanzamento a una versione di pre-rilascio di Ubuntu
 * L'esecuzione dell'attuale versione di pre-rilascio di Ubuntu
 * Pacchetti software non ufficiali non forniti da Ubuntu

Se non vengono installati, segnalare il problema usando il comando
«ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core» in un terminale.

As asked I am reporting the bug.

[Bug 1786910] Re: Latest patch breaks command line 'restart all'

2018-08-14 Thread Fernando Álvarez
The root cause is the `action` parameter for the HTTP POST request to
`localhost:2812/_doaction` being `action=restart`, whereas it should be
just `restart`. So in the request payload you find something like
`...=action=restart...`. This is obviously wrong and should be
fixed asap.

[Bug 1786910] Re: Latest patch breaks command line 'restart all'

2018-08-14 Thread Fernando Álvarez
@henryoswald for the time being, you need to revert the monit package to
1:5.16-2, try manually in a server with

sudo apt-get install monit=1:5.16-2

If your servers are automatically provisioned with some third party tool
(chef, puppet, bash scripts, etc) then you would need to update them
accordingly.

[Bug 1786491] Re: grub2 verify signed kernel exists or abort upgrade

2018-08-14 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Installed -ubuntu8.3 / signed 1.93.4 from proposed and ran some tests. I
fixed the script to use a different dir instead of
/sys/firmware/efi/efivars and created deleted the flags for secure boot
in there, as I could not get my container to read from the original dir,
even after bind mounting mock files/dirs.

On a secure boot system (mock: copied
SecureBoot-8be4df61-93ca-11d2-aa0d-00e098032b8c from host):
* Install grub-efi-amd64{,signed} and signed kernel => installs

PASS (mock: copied signed host kernel to container)

* Install grub-efi-amd64{,signed} and only unsigned kernel => prevents

PASS (mock: created empty vmlinuz-$(uname -r) in /boot/)

On a non-secure-boot system (mock: deleted SecureBoot-8be4df61-93ca-11d2
-aa0d-00e098032b8c):

* Install grub-efi-amd64{,signed} and only unsigned kernel => installs

PASS (mock: created empty vmlinuz-$(uname -r) in /boot/)

Basically there are a few things which differ between xfdesktop's categorisation
and the freedesktop one.

These were prompted by /etc/xdg/xfce4/desktop/xfce-registered-
categories.xml

Apparently Science should be a section on its own not under Education

Also there shouldn't be a space in "Project Management"

The Debian bug has more detail.

Thanks

Not sure about the Science -> Education bug. I don't have any apps in either

As for the representation of "Project Management", that's my choice, and it'll
stay as-is. Having MushedTogetherWords in a user-visible menu is stupid.

It seems they're saying that the related category field is the parent field.
Doesn't sound right to me now I look more closely.

On your other point, the lack of a space in the internal computer read format
doesn't mean that you can't have put one in when you display it.

I think the problem is:

My mistake - that was a typo. I made up that file over a year ago and haven't
looked at it since. Fixed in SVN. As for any other problems, I don't think I'm
going to work on this menu parser anymore, in favor of Benny's for 4.4.

xfce-applications.menu still ships a Science menu while it's an

remove "science" menu

This (untested) patch removes the "Science" menu since it's not a Main
category. Applications should either go to the Education menu or maybe
to a Science submenu under education.

[Bug 1087075] Re: Duplex options ignored for printing Postscript

2018-08-14 Thread Reuben Thomas via ubuntu-bugs
I can confirm that this bug still exists in Ubuntu 16.04.5:
specifically, I tried printing two pages of a PostScript file from
Evince with Duplex set to "Long Edge (Standard)", and instead of a
single sheet with both pages, the printer printed on two sheets.

I also had the following error on the terminal from which I launched
Evince: "fatal internal error -100" eight times, without a newline
between the repetitions.

It would be good to find a solution to this problem.

[Bug 1786821] Re: pam.7.gz is a symlink to PAM.7.gz . This does not work for caseinsensitive filesystems e.g. Windows Subsystem for Linux

2018-08-14 Thread Balint Reczey
IMO this issue is fixed in newer Windows builds, I suggest upgrading
your underlying Windows system to avoid having problems with case
insensitivity of the file system.

Since the PAM man page is present for long years and capital letters in
man names are not exactly rare I don't think this should be fixed based
on just the presence of the capital letters:

$ apt-file search man/man | grep '[A-Z]' | wc -l
46066

If there were only a few files present with both uppercase and lowercase
names I'd lean towards fixing them, but there are ~3k file pairs in
bionic:

$ for i in $(apt-file search / | cut -d' ' -f2 | sort | uniq | tr '[:upper:]'
'[:lower:]' | sort | uniq -c | grep -v '^ *1 ' | awk '{print $2}' ); do
apt-file search -i $i; done

firejail-profiles: /etc/firejail/cryptocat.profile
firejail-profiles: /etc/firejail/Cyberfox.profile
firejail-profiles: /etc/firejail/cyberfox.profile
firejail-profiles: /etc/firejail/FossaMail.profile
...

It is not feasible to fix all of them in Ubuntu, maybe the ones in main
but IMO one should update Windows to make it support case sensitive
operation.

[Bug 1787031] [NEW] Cosmic update to v4.17.14 stable release

2018-08-14 Thread Seth Forshee
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The v4.17.14 upstream stable
patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu
   kernel as well.

   git://git.kernel.org/

TEST CASE: TBD

The following patches from the v4.17.14 stable release shall be
applied:

scsi: qla2xxx: Fix unintialized List head crash
scsi: qla2xxx: Fix NPIV deletion by calling wait_for_sess_deletion
scsi: qla2xxx: Fix driver unload by shutting down chip
scsi: qla2xxx: Fix ISP recovery on unload
scsi: qla2xxx: Return error when TMF returns
jfs: Fix usercopy whitelist for inline inode data
genirq: Make force irq threading setup more robust
perf/x86/intel/uncore: Fix hardcoded index of Broadwell extra PCI devices
nohz: Fix local_timer_softirq_pending()
nohz: Fix missing tick reprogram when interrupting an inline softirq
netlink: Don't shift on 64 for ngroups
ring_buffer: tracing: Inherit the tracing setting to next ring buffer
i2c: imx: Fix reinit_completion() use
Btrfs: fix file data corruption after cloning a range and fsync
Partially revert "block: fail op_is_write() requests to read-only partitions"
xfs: validate cached inodes are free when allocated
Linux 4.17.14

The following patches from the v4.17.14 stable release had
already be applied:

xfs: don't call xfs_da_shrink_inode with NULL bp
jfs: Fix inconsistency between memory allocation and ea_buf->max_size

** Description changed:

  SRU Justification

  Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The v4.17.14 upstream stable
patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu
     kernel as well.

     git://git.kernel.org/

  TEST CASE: TBD

The following patches from the v4.17.14 stable release shall be
  applied:

[Bug 1776912] Re: chromium-browser package does NOT install an AppData file

2018-08-14 Thread Mario Sánchez Prada
Hi Olivier, sorry for the late reply but I'm in the middle of an
overseas relocation (UK > Spain) + holidays and I'm a bit off the grid
these days...

Thanks for your comment, and sorry for reporting it against the wrong
branch. Hopefully this will help having a better chromium package for
future releases, though.

Let me know if you need anything else from me and I'll try to help when
I get some time with my computer (will be a bit off the grid for a while
still, but on September things should get back to normal).

[Bug 1786964] Re: package php7.2-readline 7.2.7-0ubuntu0.18.04.2 failed to install/upgrade: проблеми међузависности — остављам неподешеним

2018-08-14 Thread Nish Aravamudan
It would appear from the DpkgHistoryLog.txt that possibly you were using
a graphical or non-cli environment to install the packages.

Can you run with just `apt` (e.g. `apt -f install`) or `apt-install
php7.2` ?

[Bug 1036001] Re: GVim tear-off menus don't work

2018-08-14 Thread Marcus Aurelius
(After some trouble trying to remember my password...) I ran that
command and received this message:

Package vim not installed and no hook available, ignoring

I guess the package name has changed after upgrading (I'm currently on
16.04) or something like that. If this is an essential step, could you
please tell me an alternative way?

If that's not essential, I inform that I have just tested GVim again on
Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS and the unwanted behavior persists.

[Bug 1787013] Re: Could not calculate the upgrade An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade. from 16.4 to 18.4 update

2018-08-14 Thread Brian Murray
The upgrade fails to calculate due to the vim PPA which you have enabled
as it provides a version of vim greater than the one in the official
Ubuntu archive. Please use the tool ppa-purge from the package ppa-purge
to remove that PPA and try the upgrade again.

Hope this will help.

I wonder if "Defaults" is some weird file type we should just
skip/hide/disable it? I don't see it in Gedit's file type selection
menu.

Judging by the `hidden=true` attribute in the XML and the existence of
this function:

I guess we shouldn't be showing it, but rather checking for non-hidden

Hi,

First, thanks for the amazing job you are doing !

I searched if it was possible to set colors individually to files /

Does it exist ? If not, it was "whispered" to me by someone who find it
really useful to classify files (and got the idea from Mac ;) ).

It does look like this (on Mac, sorry, sorry...) :

When opening a directory in a new tab, the history of the previous tab
is copied into the new one, but the newly opened directory is not stored
in the history.

For example:
* Navigate to root ('File System')
* Navigate to the 'usr' directory
* Navigate to the 'share' directory

The top two entries should now say 'usr' and 'File System'.

* Right click the xfce4 directory and click on 'Open in New Tab'

Note that this new tab has the same history as the old one.

* Navigate to the 'applications' directory

Note that the 'share' directory has now been added to the history, but
the 'xfce4' directory has not. When you use the back button at this
point, you will indeed end up in /usr/share and not in /usr/share/xfce4.

This odd behaviour does not occur when opening a directory in a new
*window*.

Expected behaviour:
* Opening a directory in a new tab should give the new tab a fresh history, as
in web browsers with tabs.
* The directory that is opened in the new tab should be recorded in the history
of that new tab.

Version info:
I am using version 1.6.10-2 on amd64, as provided by packages of Debian Stretch.

Another problem, related to this is:

When you follow Michael's steps and, from the 'xfce4' tab, navigate one level
up, the 'xfce4' folder *should* be selected, but it isn't. Also, this is not a
problem when 'xfce4' was opened as a new window.

git-bisect'ing identified

https://git.xfce.org/xfce/thunar/commit/?id=aa5f8fca0e6e965a9592da30c36d2fa4afe44746

as the culprit.

Digging into this revealed actually two problems here:

1) thunar_window_notebook_insert(ThunarWindow *window, ThunarFile *directory)
creates a copy of the history for the new tab to use. For newly created tabs,
these histories are exact copies, lacking a history entry for the directoy of
the original tab itself (this is what Michael already explained).

So the obvious solution would be to just add

thunar_navigator_set_current_directory(THUNAR_NAVIGATOR(history),
directory);

after the copied history has been set on the new tab.

HOWEVER:

2) Things get really interesting, when you open multiple new tabs at once, say,
not only 'xfce' but also 'xml' and 'zoneinfo':

Within thunar_window_notebook_insert(...), the call

history = thunar_standard_view_copy_history (THUNAR_STANDARD_VIEW
(window->view));

does not copy the history from the "originating tab", but from the most
recently active tab.
Since tabs get "activated" from within thunar_window_notebook_insert(), in
effect the history

- for the 'xfce' tab initially is a copy of the "original" tab's,

- for 'xml' it's a copy of the 'xfce' tab's,

- for 'zoneinfo' it's a copy of the 'xml' tab's and so on

Due to this, the fix above causes every later opened tab to have a
history entry for its predecessor.

I'm not sure how to fix that one...

Cheers
Daniel

[Bug 1786989] Re: E:The package linux-image-extra-4.4.0-57-generic needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.

2018-08-14 Thread Seth Arnold
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System ->
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!
