[Bug 210725] Re: Please include RaLink RT2860 driver

2008-10-12 Thread Francois Thirioux
daponz did you try my weird method ?

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/210725/comments/87

@ martin : I use Kubuntu Intrepid (KDE4) with knetworkmanager, fresh
install with Stephane's ppa driver, nothing more. My router is WPA-PSK
(AES I try to remember). I can't try WPA2 since at work the University
uses VPN, with no encryption (and it works perfectly).

[Bug 210725] Re: Please include RaLink RT2860 driver

2008-09-29 Thread Francois Thirioux
The Stephane's driver does not work properly with WPA. I looked at
/usr/src/rt.../RT2860STA.dat, and I saw that the driver seems to have been
compiled for open authentication ? I'm not expert so don' t blame me if I'm
wrong. I wanted to recompile it with correct parameters, but I do not know how
to do it following the Stephane's .deb way.
I've read that the original Ralink driver allows only open OR wep OR wpa
(great, isnt'it ?) and that a patched version is ready but not published.
Anyone to confirm ?

Additionally I wish this bug to be considered as HIGH importance since a
lot of new netbooks use this wireless card.

(Good news : note that network-manager-kde works again in Intrepid since
last night.)

[Bug 210725] Re: Please include RaLink RT2860 driver

2008-10-04 Thread Francois Thirioux
Hmm, I really got the feeling that hardwares don't work in the same way.
I use an EEEPC901, and 1.8.0.0 has the same issue than Stephane's package : I
see access points, but no connection is achieved, it seems to fail when WPA
protocol comes.
So I think we should indicate in each post the hardware we are using.

2008-10-07 Thread Francois Thirioux
With today's intrepid upgrade to 2.6.27-6, driver was broken, no wifi
available. Reinstallation solved the issue, but I don't think it's normal since
the driver is designed to be automatically installed when a new kernel is
available ?
I reinstalled networkmanager, which does see the wifi AP, but still doesn't
connect (WPA, eeepc901). Adam said that eeepc hack may have importance, anybody
to confirm and solve the issue on 1.8.0.0 ?

2008-10-07 Thread Francois Thirioux
Youhouu !!

I managed a success for wpa-eeepc901 :

- use knetworkmanager as usual
- install the last Stephane's driver
- configure a new ra0 WPA connection with Expert Settings
- select Use Specific Cipher and un-select CCMPs
- click Connect and Save
- it fails
- edit this new connection
- re-choose Use Specific Cipher
- re-select TKIPs
- click Connect and Save
- SUCCESS !!

Don't ask me HOW i found this, i don't know that myself...
And don't ask me technical explanations... I just tried some options in NM...

2007-10-06 Thread Francois Thirioux
[Toshiba U200, intel gma 945, kubuntu gutsy up-to-date]

I get the issue (dark screen with grey squares) on my kubuntu gutsy (new
install), as i did in feisty.
And I get more often this issue than in feisty (see last paragraph for
explanation...) !
Notice that one time I got the same issue with ctrl-alt-bksp trying to restart
my X server.

I agree that in feisty, i disabled splash (removing splash from grub)
and it worked better, but the issue happened from time to time anyways.

It's really a bad issue, causing bad feeling to new users.

[Bug 150943] [Gutsy] Toshiba U200 random crashes on shutdown

2007-10-09 Thread Francois Thirioux
Public bug reported:

hi,

since Edgy my Toshiba U200 (intel 945 video) crashes randomly on
shutdown as follows :

- power button or shutdown from K menu
- black screen
- black screen with grey squares at some places of the screen
- a few seconds
- fan speeds up up up
- hard-reset needed

My feeling is that concerns the connection splash screen, but i'm not an expert.
(It happens sometimes by restarting the X-server.)

[Bug 186115] Re: SD card reader does not work

2008-03-14 Thread Francois Thirioux
I could do that, but I did that during my searches to solve this issue.
The dmesg shows absolutely nothing : nobody in my Ubuntu knows that my Toshiba
owns a SD reader...

I was told that there was a patch at Mandriva :
http://svn.mandriva.com/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/packages/updates/2008.0/kernel-2.6/current/PATCHES/patches/DB35_mmc_power_up_delay.patch?view=markup&pathrev=114631

Thanks again.

[Bug 205045] [NEW] [Hardy beta] Xorg fails to configure an usable xorg.conf

2008-03-22 Thread Francois Thirioux
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg

Hi,

Toshiba U200, intel 945, driver "intel", Kubuntu Hardy beta last
updates.

When I did a "dpkg-reconfigure -phigh etc...", my xorg.conf became wrong (see
attachment).
When rebooting, it fails to initialize.
I replaced it with an old xorg.conf and all is ok.

Additionally, note that the Monitor/Display driver utility does not
allow me to switch back from i810 to intel (the i810 is the one choosed
by my wrong worg.conf).

Thanks !

[Bug 205442] [NEW] Iced Tea installation does not allow choice

2008-03-23 Thread Francois Thirioux
Public bug reported:

Hi,

[Hardy up-to-date, Sun Java 6 installed]

When installing Iced Tea (proposed in Adept without any special action), I was
not asked for a choice between Sun Java and Iced Tea.
(Some softwares do experience issues with IT... GeoGebra e.g.)

So I uninstalled ITea, and again I was not asked for a VM choice. No
Java was usable before some well known command lines on Java version.

It would be nice that, like kdm/gdm, the user is asked for a choice in
Adept.

Thanks

[Bug 205442] Re: Iced Tea installation does not allow choice

2008-03-25 Thread Francois Thirioux
Hi,

1) when Iced Tea was being installed I was not asked for the default
Java VM tu use, and Iced Tea was my new Java VM without giving me the
choice

2) when I uninstalled Iced Tea the only Java VM remaining (Sun Java) was
not set as default Java VM, I had to do it myself in konsole as no Java
VM was ok for any software

Thanks

[Bug 1898206] Re: Thunderbird snap 78.3.1 experiences some oddities to open attachment

2020-11-24 Thread Francois Thirioux
Note that I cannot open attachments in a compose window. Nothing happens
(because confinement/apparmor, as far as I can see in Logs).
That's very annoying to check I send the good files.

The url of the attachment begins with file:///run/user/1000...
If I choose to send a file through Nautilus right-click/send-to, the url of
file attached is usual one (location in home folder).

Please note that right-click works with TB snap only through nautilus-sendto

Another concern:
https://github.com/kewisch/gdata-provider/issues
this very common addon that manages Google Calendar does not always show Google
calendars at TB startup. It's not snap nor Ubuntu nor Linux related. There are
numerous similar bug reports.
Another one with task creation:

I know Ubuntu is promoting GNOME Calendar but using former Lightning one
is very common.

[Bug 1930887] [NEW] [snap] Thunderbird 78.11 does not play new email sound

2021-06-04 Thread Francois Thirioux
Public bug reported:

(Was the same before v. 78.11.)

TB does not play a sound when a new mail incomes, even if the correct option is
selected.
Changing from default to custom sound does not change the issue.

New emails notifications do work as intended, except sound.

[Bug 1924238] Re: Fix no picture from HDMI when it's plugged after boot

2021-04-28 Thread Francois Thirioux
Hi,

[Focal, Thinkpad T480s, 8550u/intel igpu]

Unfortunately I suspect this:

* Fix no picture from HDMI when it's plugged after boot (LP: #1924238)
- drm/i915/display: Handle lane polarity for DDI port

in *-1024 OEM 5.10 kernel, that I do use in Focal, did break HDMI hotplug after
GNOME is loaded.
HDMI works if plugged when at GDM login screen and then in GNOME itself.
Additionally, my laptop's sleep seems to be broken (I don't remember if this
happens when HDMI is working or not).

[Bug 1924238] Re: Fix no picture from HDMI when it's plugged after boot

2021-04-29 Thread Francois Thirioux
Previous one: *-1023

I'm sure of that because I use HDMI every day, at work or at home. And I
checked my apt/Synaptic's history. Nothing else was updated this day
apart kernels. I updated GS and Mutter to 3.36.9 *way after* having
experienced the issue for the first time.

And kernel 5.8 hwe is working nicely with HDMI...

Please note that I did have some partially similar issues with 5.10 oem
with my Dell WD15 dock (2 displays) at work: after unplugging the usb-c,
I have to force the shutdown and sleep is broken. I absolutely don't
know if this is related to this bug here.

[Bug 1926597] [NEW] Linux 5.10.0-1024.25 breaks HDMI with Intel i915

2021-04-29 Thread Francois Thirioux
Public bug reported:

Hi,

[Thinkpad T480s, Intel iGPU 8550u, Ubuntu Focal up-to-date, GNOME
Wayland session]

Previous 5.10.0-1023.24 was ok. Kernel 5.8 HWE is ok. I did not test a X
session.

Plugging HDMI after GNOME is loaded fails to display anything on the HDMI
display.
Plugging HDMI at boot or at GDM screen makes the HDMI display works as usual.

Unplugging HDMI (display only on this one) during GNOME session does not
update displays state. Nothing happens. I have to press the switch-
display-key on my laptop to actualize the setup and make my laptop's
display active.

When I unplug HDMI during GNOME session, nothing appears in logs.

My laptop fails to enter sleep after having unplugged the HDMI.

[Bug 1763144] Re: Significantly lower power and thermal limits on ThinkPad T480s (and probably others) than on Windows

I'm affected too (Ubuntu focal, kernel 5.4).

I found a simple workaround here using thermald :
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Other-Linux-Discussions/X1C6-T480s-low-cTDP-and-trip-temperature-in-Linux/m-p/4637873#M14378
helped from here :
https://github.com/intel/thermal_daemon/issues/215
It's just a workaround... and I don't really understand how it does make the
limits higher, but it's better than nothing.

Public bug reported:

Running :
Ubuntu GNOME session 20.04 up to date
GNOME Shell + Mutter 3.35.91
Wayland session
French language configuration (fr in kb config files)
AZERTY keyboard

Upgrading from 2.26-2ubuntu4 to 2.29-1 caused my French AZERTY keyboard to be
QWERTY.
If I run :
setxkbmap fr
in a terminal, then everything becomes ok again.
The issue is not present in GNOME Terminal but is present in Synaptic or
Firefox e.g., I guess it could be X/Wayland apps difference ?

Anyway, downgrading to xkb-data 2.26-2ubuntu4 did solve the issue.

[Bug 1865263] Re: [Focal] xkb-data 2.29-1 breaks AZERTY keyboard

2020-02-29 Thread Francois Thirioux
Following above Timo Aaltonen's statement, we have to upgrade to 7.7+5:
https://packages.debian.org/fr/sid/x11-xkb-utils
too.

Tested and approved !

[Bug 1765363] Re: prime-select intel is not powering off the nvidia card

2018-04-24 Thread Francois Thirioux
I confirm a power usage issue.
Dell 7510 (too !)
Ubuntu (GNOME) 18.04
Nvidia M1000M

I found that the file :
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nvidia.conf
is not removed by prime when switching to Nvidia, so the module cannot be
loaded (as far I understand the stuff). When I remove it and load with Nvidia
mode, the Nvidia module is loaded, not the Nouveau module.

The grub option "nouveau.run-pm=0" (or something like that) is either
not removed when purging Nvidia-390 stack. Removing it manually allows
to use Nouveau with normal (low) power usage.

I did not succeed to get a Nvidia-390 with Intel mode AND dGPU powered
off.

[Bug 1765363] Re: prime-select intel is not powering off the nvidia card

2018-04-26 Thread Francois Thirioux
Running Quadro M1000M, no crash running Nouveau (just poor perf as
everybody)

Well, if I select intel through prime, the line nouveau.run-pm=0 is put in
kernel parameters in grub. I've excluded nvidia & nouveau from runtime pm in
tlp, to not interfere here.
The result is that I get 15 W power usage.

If I delete the nouveau.run-pm=0 kernel option & update grub, and if I
do not exclude nvidia nouveau from runtime pm in TLP, I get 5 W running
the same backlight & wifi settings.

cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch shows
0:IGD:+:Pwr::00:02.0
1:DIS: :Off::01:00.0
too, but anyway the FACT is that the power usage on my Dell 7510 is much
higher, and is 100 % related to some stuff involving nvidia/prime.

Definitely not TLP-related since I experience the same difference
without TLP installed.

[Bug 1770931] [NEW] Ambiance : odd vertical padding in Firefox 60 with no title bar

2018-05-13 Thread Francois Thirioux
Public bug reported:

I run Firefox 60 in Ubuntu 18.04 without window title bar (new option).
The extra space option to grab the window does not change anything.

There is no issue with Adwaita or Communitheme. In Ambiance (see
screenshot), there is a rather big vertical padding above the tabs ;
thus the close button is vertically centered in the header bar but does
not fit with the tabs/icons line.

[Bug 1765363] Re: prime-select intel is not powering off the nvidia card

2018-05-14 Thread Francois Thirioux
Please note that
RUNTIME_PM_DRIVER_BLACKLIST="amdgpu nouveau nvidia radeon"
is TLP's default (happens too if the line is commented), so if you don't want
to blacklist any driver you have to set
RUNTIME_PM_DRIVER_BLACKLIST=""
as TLP config file's comments warn us about this trick.
