This will take some time, since life-CD isn t ready and is probably not
good enough for the test

 As well, does following
 https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SensorInstallHowto allow you to
 monitor your temperature?
answer of sudo sensors-detect:
.
Sorry, no sensors were detected.
This is relatively common on laptops, where thermal management is
handled by ACPI rather than the OS.

[Bug 1166832] [NEW] screen freeze with working mouse, keyboard, terminals etc

2013-04-09 Thread G.C. Hassink
Public bug reported:

In 12.04 I reported a bug:
[Bug 1161102] Re: Gdk-WARNING: gnome-session: Fatal IO error 11 (Hulpbron is
tijdelijk onbeschikbaar) on X server :0.#012

I was asked to test 13.04 beta to asses whether it still had this bug.

from appearance this bug seems to be the same as Bug 1161102, though
with different error log?

So what happened? With several programms open I tried to start the
softwarecenter. The screen froze, I was able to use ctrl alt F2. using ctrl
alt7 I got a black screen with mouse. only solution was to use ctrl alt
Bckspace to re-log into my account.
it happend arroun 15:27. but no apport crash popup appeared. the only thing I
could find arround that time in the logs, was

Apr 9 14:25:59 Hassink1304 kernel: [13034.97] type=1400
audit(1365510359.362:71): apparmor=DENIED operation=open parent=1
profile=/usr/bin/evince name=/proc/sys/vm/overcommit_memory pid=6141
comm=evince requested_mask=r denied_mask=r fsuid=1000 ouid=0

This happened the day before as well, also while using evince. But since
I'm using that program a lot, it might be a coincidence

during the reporting procedure of this bug the same happened again, not
with evince closed

it said compiz crash

Excuses, het programma compiz werd onverwachts afgesloten

Uw computer heeft onvoldoende vrij werkgeheugen om het probleem
automatisch te analyseren en een rapport naar de ontwikkelaars te
sturen.

so too little memory to work the error report?

2013-04-10 Thread G.C. Hassink
I have been testing 13.04 now for a few days.
I got two severe crashes (needed to reboot), i will sort out the details.
If I look at errors related to this bug, xsessions error log of today
give serveral instances of Fatal IO error 11 in different applications
(gtk window manager, nautilus etc) . Please see the attached xsessions log.

update:
Screen freeze might actually be a temperal screen freeze; after one minute or
so compiz/unity/ restarts itself. this might. however, be triggered by
swithching to terminal and back using ctrl alt F2 and ctrl alt F7.

[Bug 999191] Re: X crashes with gnome-session: Fatal IO error 11

2013-04-05 Thread G.C. Hassink
My former note that the system is stable now is not correct.
Meanwhile I was able to file a new report by executing the following in a
terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg
It was filed under https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1161102
So please ati radeon xpress 200m users subscribe to that bug if you have it.
My current workaround is using Unity-2d. It is stable for days now but a bit
slow on the graphics unfortunately.

Switching to unity-2d seems to solve the problem, but it is not an ideal

I wonder if it has to do with an overheated GPU. But I don't know how track GPU

[Bug 937931] Re: unable to allocate memory for mutex; resize mutex region

2013-01-18 Thread G.C. Hassink
I discovered this error because I wondered what was causing the software
center to crash at its start up and giving a apport crash window
(hereafter the software center just started normally).

when I run /usr/bin/software-center the output is among others:

MemoryError: (12, 'Onvoldoende geheugen beschikbaar -- unable to allocate
memory for mutex; resize mutex region')
.

[Bug 999191] Re: X crashes with gnome-session: Fatal IO error 11

2013-02-03 Thread G.C. Hassink
I tried to do that in the mean time (using Alt F2), but no web browser
in terminal, so couldn't finish it, and haven't been able to locate the
report yet. Anyhow, I googled a little further and learned that
compizconfig settings manager is a notorious culprit. So I did a compiz
revert to standard followed by a unity --reset and uninstall of CCSM.
And now it seems stable for quit some days

Sorry if this is not the appropriate spot to put this comment, but
hopefully it will be of use to someone else.

[Bug 1013684] [NEW] computer goes spontanious to text mode and then halts

2012-06-15 Thread G.C. Hassink
Public bug reported:

While just browsing in nautilus xorg apparently crashes, at least I see
suddenly some text scrolling over an otherwise black screen and then
system is unresponsive. i have to restart. the system then does not
notify that a serious crash occured which is strange i think.

[Bug 764330] Re: [regression] Moving windows lags behind the mouse by 1-2 seconds; appear to freeze when dragging.

2013-07-28 Thread G.C. Hassink
I did it a little different:

in CCSM:
composite -- detect refreshing OFF and set it manually to 60
openGL -- texture filter set fast

compiz --replace worked but not after a restart so,

change in start up applications:
and turn NVIDIA xserver settings OFF

works for now

[Bug 1198196] Re: system unresponsive lots of disk activity

2013-07-09 Thread G.C. Hassink
excusez moi,

I made a mistake; which might be usefull to others. this bug was due to
inactive swap partition. apperently I altered location/size of the swap
at some point changing its UUID in that process. Therefore swap was off
which I didn notice and the system ran out of memory sometimes, causing
immense HDD activity.

[Bug 1029260] [NEW] spontanious system hangup

2012-07-25 Thread G.C. Hassink
Public bug reported:

I haven't completely figured out what triggers it, but quite often when I go to
the following site using firefox in unity2D:
http://www.ns.nl/cgi-bin/spoorkaart/spoorkaart which is flash driven map, mouse
and keyboard get unresponsive. ctrl alt backspace etc do not work and I have to
restart using the power button. no crash indication is given after restart.

Most flash works by the way and I'm not sure if it always firefox that
is causing the problem.

[Bug 1010438] Re: xorg crashed during play of firefox embedded flash movie

2012-07-06 Thread G.C. Hassink
Problem seems to be solved for now. After some reading on other fora, I
uninstalled nouveau display driver (via softwarecentre) which was supposed to
cause conflict with the Intel drivers, and therefore maybe also with radeon
drivers
http://lcardinaals.wordpress.com/2012/04/25/ubuntu-12-04-myunity/
http://thorwil.wordpress.com/2012/05/16/fun-with-graphics-card-drivers-in-ubuntu-12-04/
But I also received some xorg related updates.

[Bug 1310595] [NEW] network-manager and wifi not working after resume from suspend

2014-04-21 Thread G.C. Hassink
Public bug reported:

After resume from suspend, wifi light stays off but wifi connects.
After resume from suspend second time, wifi does not connect and network
-manager says network not activated, activate network does not help. only
reboot does.

additional info. I added:

# WORKAROUND: always set the default hibernate mode first (normal mode)
# (not required if you have the patch mentioned by Rohan below
(http://askubuntu.com/a/344879/169))
HIBERNATE_MODE=platform

# Always use hibernate instead of suspend, but with suspend to both
if [ $METHOD = suspend ]; then
  METHOD=hibernate
  HIBERNATE_MODE=suspend
fi

# Make sure to use the kernel's method, in case uswsusp is installed etc.
SLEEP_MODULE=kernel

to /etc/pm/config.d/00-use-suspend-hybrid
to be able to suspend to disk.

Without this file wifi connects after resuspend but as said without wifi
light on. This was not the case for Ubuntu 13.10
