Not to my knowledge, no. Yes I have been to the local LUG and as nice as
it is, it's just an excuse to have a drink and a meal out. It would be
nice to attend a more focused meet. I don't think my local LUG has ever
been particularly Linux focused, the last meet seemed to mainly focus
around Theresa May!

Raspberry Pi Jams also have a large overlap with LUGs, and many cities
have a monthly Jam now.

[ubuntu-uk] Meetup.com

2016-08-01 Thread Gareth France
I am a member of meetup.com and of the Ubuntu meetup group on there. I
think it's a fantastic idea as I'm not personally aware of any regularly
meeting enthusiast group for Ubuntu in the UK.

However it doesn't currently have a group owner and will be deleted in 7
days if nobody claims it. I'd love to but for groups with more than 50
members there is a $14.99+ fee per month to pay and I simply can't
afford the extra expense.

I would welcome suggestions from anyone as to how this could be made to
work without costing me money or would anyone else be willing to step up
to the plate?

I did a successful 14.04 to 16.04 upgrade yesterday. if, when you
get to the GRUB menu, you choose 'Advanced options for Ubuntu', you
can see which kernels you have installed. You will have 4.4, 3.13 and
3.11 if all has gone well. Have you got 4.4.0-31?

One thing I did not say, the Ubuntu page shows 14.04 and nothing else

worried about causing more problems..will try your suggestion

Only kerrnel I can find is 311, looks like I might have disturbed a

So its OK if the BBC provide an app through the Google App Store, but not

[ubuntu-uk] BBC News and Weather web apps

2016-08-01 Thread Tony Pursell
Hi

Does anyone know why the BBC News and Weather web apps, and the Logviewer
app, disappeared off my Ubuntu phone when I updated to OTA 12? They are
not in the Ubuntu Store either.

I have had to make my own BBC News web app.

I know there is a BBC scope but I don't find it as easy to use as the web
app was.

Hi Michael,

How long did you leave it in the stalled condition?
What did the terminal say it was doing at the time?

The reason that I ask is that I did an LTS to LTS update (64 bit) last
Friday and it stalled for a very long time while installing one of the
language packages. I left it alone and it eventually came back to life
and completed.
The installation part of the upgrade seemed to take much longer than
previous upgrades. Since the upgrade the machine has been much slower to
shut down, but this is a known bug to do with systemd and networked
printers. Just waiting for the fix to work its way through the update
system.

2016-08-01 Thread Dan Wood
At the terminal prompt, you could try:

sudo dpkg --configure -a

which should hopefully kick off the remaining updates. If that
completes OK, follow it with

sudo apt update
sudo apt dist-upgrade

and hopefully you'll be in a better state.

Cheers,
Dan.

You could boot from the DVD and take a backup of files by mounting the disk
partition and copying to a USB key or external device, and then reinstall.
You could even download a 16.04.1 ISO using Windows if you wanted.
That's probably
the easiest route to take.
