[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts

2020-04-19 Thread Oded Arbel
The GNOME issue is completely separate from the problem of "triggering
layout change on press", as GNOME does not use the kxb behavior at all -
it actually disables any options set using setxkbmap - instead it
listens to keyboard events and implements its own custom behavior that
mimics Mac OS.

Note that with the current release (19.10, but also tested 20.04) on
Kubuntu with xserver 1.20 that *does not* include the patch from
freedesktop.org bug 865, layout switching works on release - as
requested. I'm not sure what introduced this behavior and whether it is
in X.org or in KDE.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1777395] Re: [bionic] Dell precision touchpad RMB no longer works

2018-06-18 Thread Oded Arbel
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1759300 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1759300

After several upgrades/downgrades of libinput and reboots, including
setting up xinput quirks according to
http://www.dell.com/support/article/ca/en/cabsdt1/sln308258/precision-
xps-ubuntu-general-touchpad-mouse-issue-fix?lang=en, the problem seems
to have gone away and the touchpad correctly reports RMB clicks.

Confirmed this is a libinput regression - I've built and installed
libinput 1.8.4 from Artful and that returned the RMB click functionality
(though of course many other things that rely on libinput >= 1.9 broke).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1777395] Re: [bionic] Dell precision touchpad RMB no longer works

Reading into it a bit, it could be an issue with libinput, which Bionic
ships version 1.10 (over Artful's 1.8).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1777395] [NEW] [bionic] Dell precision touchpad RMB no longer works

2018-06-18 Thread Oded Arbel
Public bug reported:

Using the clickable touchpad on the Dell Precision 5520, the "right
mouse button" (an area marked on the bottom right of the touchpad) no
longer produces an RMB event when clicked. This used to work in Artful.

More details:
The Dell Precision touchpad is "clickable" - i.e. when pressed firmly it
produces a click sound and triggers an LMB event even without raising the
finger from the touchpad. This allows you to move the cursor around quickly and
clicking on things without having to stop and raise your finger from the
surface.

Additionally, the touchpad has a marked bottom area that is split into
two horizontally. When clicking (not tapping) on the right part of the
bottom area, it should simulate a right mouse button click, while on the
left part it should simulate a left mouse button click. This used to
work well under Artful, but does no longer work in Bionic - both sides
produce a left click (with some caveats, the left side doesn't seem to
work so well, but that is probably another issue).

When running libinput-debug-events, the output clearly shows that the
touchpad "right mouse button" clearly sends RMB events:

 event11 POINTER_MOTION +33.83s0.00/ 1.19
 event11 POINTER_MOTION +33.85s0.00/ 0.99
 event11 POINTER_BUTTON +38.62s BTN_RIGHT (273) pressed, seat count: 1
 event11 POINTER_BUTTON +38.80s BTN_RIGHT (273) released, seat count: 0
 event11 POINTER_BUTTON +39.35s BTN_RIGHT (273) pressed, seat count: 1
 event11 POINTER_BUTTON +39.56s BTN_RIGHT (273) released, seat count: 0
 event11 POINTER_BUTTON +40.02s BTN_RIGHT (273) pressed, seat count: 1

 event11 POINTER_MOTION +42.67s -0.60/ 0.60

None the less, X11 doesn't seem to recognize this - xev output shows:

As far as I know, XKB2 was never released, not even as a draft.

Are you saying that the situation has changed and changes to XKB are now
welcome?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1683383] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts (reopen)

2018-04-17 Thread Oded Arbel
I've installed and tested Norbert's PPA and it works great. I have
ALT+SHIFT set as the layout switch shortcut and with the PPA I can now
use Eclipse's ALT+SHIFT+ keyboard shortcuts.

Kudos Norbert!

Sorry it took so long - because the PPA is only for LTS releases, I had
to wait until it was safe for me to update to the 18.04 beta (i.e. no
urgent work scheduled). I hope with the upcoming release there will be
more testers and maybe we can get Ubuntu maintainers to pick up the
patch.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1716741] Re: [artful] After killing Google Chrome, X.org crashes

2018-02-09 Thread Oded Arbel
I have ran the tool a few times because it seemed to be crashing - at
first it wouldn't run at all complaining about missing PyQT, so I
installed python-qt-binding; then it seemed to be crashing due to
missing pathlib, so I installed that as well and ran it again.

Regarding the original problem, I have to say that in the last few
months Chrome has been relatively stable and I hadn't needed to call it,
so I didn't encounter that specific problem for a while now.

** Description changed:

Sometimes (quite often recently) Google Chrome gets stuck on my computer
  - its not responding at all and when resizing the window there is no
  repaint.

If I then kill the process (it seems to happen both for TERM and KILL),
the Google Chrome windows close and everything seems to work for a some
short time (less than a minute) and then I get kicked out of the
  session.

Sometimes (quite often recently) Google Chrome gets stuck on my computer
  - its not responding at all and when resizing the window there is no

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts

2016-03-29 Thread Oded Arbel
@orange-buffalo: the problem you describe is not this bug - its a
problem with GNOME itself. This report is about the Xserver bug that was
fixed by Ubuntu (though not in Xorg itself, so it is still evident in
non-Ubuntu operating system).

For the GNOME shell bug, check this bug report:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812]

2015-07-25 Thread Oded Arbel
Currently, Alon Bar-Lev's patch (xorg-server-1.12.2-xkb-switch-on-
release.patch) applies cleanly against Xorg 1.17.2 from Fedora 22, but
apparently has no effect - with `setxkbmap -print` output like this:

xkb_keymap {
xkb_keycodes  { include evdev+aliases(qwerty) };
xkb_types { include complete  };
xkb_compat{ include complete+ledscroll(group_lock)};
xkb_symbols { include
pc+us+il(lyx):2+us:3+inet(evdev)+group(alt_shift_toggle)  };
xkb_geometry  { include pc(pc105) };
};

Holding ALT+SHIFT (without releasing) immediately changes the layout.

I've build a copr package for this that can be found in copr under
guss77/xorg-patches, if you want to test drive.

ּsorry, my bad - I was mistaken. Apparently the problem has something to
do with GNOME's new layout switching handling. If I set Modifiers-only
switch to next source to Disabled in the keyboard shortcut editor,
then run

setxkbmap -option grp:switch,grp:alt_shift_toggle

Everything works fine with the patch.

So, we actually have two problems now, with layout switching kicking on
on release - both the broken XKB protocol and the broken GNOME handling
of modifier-only layout switching.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1306470] Re: Under KDE, X consumes 100% CPU after returning from VT switch

2015-02-17 Thread Oded Arbel
Unfortunately, I no longer have this device - it was stolen.

I may be able to get my hands on such a device to try it, but that is a
long shot. If reproducing on an updated T420 is required to continue
working on this bug, then I suggest to close it for now and if I manage
to reproduce I'll reopen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812]

2014-09-06 Thread Oded Arbel
(In reply to comment #129)
As far as I can tell, it is already clear that XKB specifications needs to
be extended for this to be cleanly solved. While Ilya's hack works for many
people, and as much as I would like to see this fixed, I understand why it
 is unacceptable to the developers.
...
there's two-ish ppl working on input at them moment, both are badly
overloaded because there's a lot of bugs and plenty new features that ppl
cry out for. so this bug has less to do with purist reasons, it's more along
the lines of i've got so many things to do that don't break the spec, they
 get priority.

So I understand that this issue is currently not worked on by Xorg
developers.

Priorities are a good thing, and I'm currently comfortable with the
pragmatic approach of the downstream distributions applying Ilya's patch
in their packages (which works fine for a lot of happy users who have
reported as such - I have yet to hear a report where Ilya's patch is not
improving behavior for multi-language users).

Still:

1) Its a good idea to have the pragmatic patch set maintained in this
bug report - even if it will never be applied to upstream Xorg, simply
as a central point for downstream distributors to get access to a
reasonable workaround until a correct solution is available.

2) It will be a real shame if this issue, that is actively discussed by
the community for 10 years now and is hurting a lot of users, will be
ignored for another 10 years. In the mean time XKB2 - that was supposed
to be the solution to all our problems - was relegated from being
worked on to being thought on to being dreamed of (around 2010) and
now appears to have fallen to the status of it will never be important
enough.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1306470] [NEW] Under KDE, X consumes 100% CPU after returning from VT switch

2014-04-11 Thread Oded Arbel
Public bug reported:

Running on current trusty (though is has been going on for a while),
when I'm using KDE and I switch to another VT, when I get back into KDE
the X server is eating up all the CPU (of one core). After a few
minutes it settles down.

Also, while the CPU is loaded, sometimes (not always but most times), my
keyboard is not responding, and the desktop behaves as if one of the
keyboard switch states is stuck - for example usually it looks like the
ALT key is stuck and when I try to click on windows with the mouse, I
get the move window behavior, as if I'm holding the ALT key.

The behavior of CPU load is 100% reproduceable under KDE when doing a VT
switch. It never happens when I use XFCE or GNOME shell (I wanted to try
unity, but I'm having problems installing it). Also, it often happens
when I get back from sleep to KDE (not 100% though).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1306470] Re: Under KDE, X consumes 100% CPU after returning from VT switch

2014-04-11 Thread Oded Arbel
I forgot to mention my system settings - I'm using Thinkpad T420 with
Nvidia Optimus. I am *not* using nvidia-prime, as that setup didn't work
for me, instead I'm using the bumblebee setup where X is configured only
for the Intel graphics, and bumblebee is using a second X server to
render 3D games.

I have the Nvidia binary driver 331-updates from canonical installed,
and not nouveou. I'm not using an xorg.conf, but if I try to generate
one using 'X -configure', the generated file includes only the Intel
setup.

At the times of the problem, the bumblebee setup is not being used and
the nvidia driver is not even loaded, but bumblbeed is running.

This issue is still solved for me - test if the fix still works by
holding slowly ALT then SHIFT then some letter key, then release all one

resolved.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1109806] [NEW] [xorg-edgers] Failed to run applications under optirun after upgrading nvidia driver

2013-01-29 Thread Oded Arbel
Public bug reported:

I'm using a Thinkpad T420 with Nvidia 4200M (Optimus). I've been
successfully using Ubuntu 12.04 and now 12.10 with Bumblebee and the
Ubuntu provided Nvidia drivers for a while.

Today - wanting to get the latest release of the Nvidia 310 series
driver, I installed xorg-edgers, upgraded the system and installed
nvidia-310. After the reboot (to kernel 3.7), bumblebee starts fine but
optirun fails to run any 3D application - e.g. glxgears. I get this
error:

$ optirun glxgears
X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 154 (NV-GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 4 ()
Resource id in failed request: 0x22
Serial number of failed request: 37
Current serial number in output stream: 37

I've tried the other Nvidia drivers from xorg-edgers (304 and 313) but
all behave the same. I then tried to install the standard Nvidia drivers
but these won't build against kernel 3.7.

Aside from that, everything works fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812]

2012-10-04 Thread Oded Arbel
(In reply to comment #108)
I don't know what they have done in Ubuntu but 12.04 understands both press
and release. Layout switching happens on release.

Ubuntu have simply applied Ilya's patch (one of the revisions attached
here) to fix the layout switching problem.

If you press Alt you see
the global menu and after release HUD uppears.

This is a different behavior and one that works with the pristine X.org
server - the ALT key, when used without any other shift keys, fires
down when pressed and up when released. The Ubuntu HUD listens for
this sequence and triggers when ALT is used like that without any other
shift key.

The problematic behavior (as documented in this lengthy bug report -
kitates, please read the discussion), is that when you press down on the
second shift key, X.org fires the keyboard layout change (problem 1) and
also immediately fires the up event for the second shift key, even
though the user is still holding the key down (problem 1).

Problem 1 means that when the user wants to use shift1+shift2+key
as a keyboard shortcut (when shift1 and shift2 are the shift keys
used for layout switching, for example ALT+SHIFT or CTRL+ALT), then the
user will inadvertently also trigger a layout switching that wasn't
supposed to happen.

Problem 2 means that the actual keyboard shortcut will never actually
trigger because when the user holds down key, even though all keys are
physically held down X.org only acknowledges that shift1 and key are
held down.

 Looks like everything has
been fixed. But if you use Ctrl or Alt for layout switching you still can't
use this key for anything more, it's exclusived :( So ridiculous.

It shouldn't work like that - I've tested the Ubuntu built X.org (with
Ilya's patch) and it worked properly when using CTRL+ALT as the keyboard
switching. It was immediately after the patch got accepted (at 11.04)
but as ALT+SHIFT still works fine, I don't see a reason everything
shouldn't continue to work (though I don't have access to an Ubuntu
machine ATM to test).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812]

2012-08-29 Thread Oded Arbel
(In reply to comment #103)
This patch breaks the keyboard layout switcher from KDE3 and Trinity. It works
correctly with the layout switcher in KDE4. Have other people tested this
 patch
with other layout switchers? What are the results?

This works fine with all switchers shipped on Ubuntu (gnome, unity,
kde4, etc.).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 931122] Re: 3D performance is very bad

2012-03-22 Thread Oded Arbel
Same problem with the lice CD, same problem with Kubuntu.

The performance is very bad with Unity 3D and Kwin with desktop effects,
to the point where using the desktop is not possible. Using Unity 2D or
KWin without effects makes the desktop usable, just slow.

If you want me to run any sort of application to test and report, I can
do that at any point.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 931122] [NEW] 3D performance is very bad

2012-02-12 Thread Oded Arbel
Public bug reported:

I'm using a couple of computers based on Intel DQ35JO board, which has a
GMA graphics chip:

$ lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82Q35 Express Integrated
Graphics Controller (rev 02)

Running any sort of 3D graphics is incredibly slow, for example:

$ glxgears -fullscreen
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
51 frames in 5.1 seconds = 10.010 FPS

which is rather good comparing to the behavior of glxgears without
fullscreen and maximized (showing the window borders and panels) which
is aroudn 5 FPS.

This is the same for both Unity 2D, standard 3D Unity (in which also
just moving windows around is painful) and KDE (in which everything is
ever slower which makes KDE practically unusable).

I've had the same behavior since I installed Ubuntu 11.10, and its the
same now with the 12.04 alpha.

Here's the full output of lspci:

I have two identical machines running 12.04 - one is using the standard
Ubuntu (with KDE installed as an option) and the other is installed with
Kubuntu. When I run glxgears on the Kubuntu machine, its not running in
synchronized mode and the fullscreen framerate is reported around 50
FPS, though the movement is almost as choppy as in the Ubuntu machine
(so I don't understand what is going on). In the Kubuntu machine, KDE
can't do OpenGL desktop effects at all - I get errors when I try to
enable that, though glxgears does work.

A slightly older machine (running chipset 82801H - ICH8 family) works
fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812]

2011-12-26 Thread Oded Arbel
(In reply to comment #75)
 Things to test would include
 3. Is there any problem when using IBus? Check the shortcuts that
 activate/deactivate/switch layout in IBus.

Input methods may be a problem as i dont think anyone who is interested in this
is using IM. I dont know why - maybe IM users dont use layout switching
shortcuts, maybe they don't use shortcuts at all? But that is
A good reason to apply this patch to X.org's trunk - until that is done we cant
get any serious testing of this feature as the only people that encounter the
patch are the people that come looking for it specifically and all those fall
into a set of well defined parameters.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812]

2011-12-26 Thread Oded Arbel
The following comments were made by Peter Hutterer (an X.org input developer)
on the corresponding bug in RedHat bugzilla (
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=660254 ):
(In reply to comment #6)
implementing this behaviour requires guesswork that I'm not sure is safe in a
 number of setups.
...
afaict, the desired behaviour for a ctrl+shift groupchange is:
ctrl down → set Control modifier
shift down → set Shift modifier
 if (other key pressed)
send event Contrl+Shift+other key
else if (ctrl || shift released)
change group

The XKB map for left control in this case is:
 key LCTL { [   Control_L,  ISO_Next_Group ] };
So whenever ISO_Next_Group is pressed, you still need to know which modifier
 to
set in case the group action isn't executed. The XkbSA_SetMod, XkbSA_LockMod,
etc. actions provide the modifiers set for a given key, hence why it works
currently. This information comes from the client when the xkb map is loaded
and is used to trigger the modifier flags for a given key. The XkbSA_LockGroup
behaviour (which is triggered at ISO_Next_Group) does not have this field
(adding it would break ABI), so you need to guess which modifiers to set if
 you
didn't trigger this action. This is the main stumbling point that I found and
if you look at Ilya's patch that's where he needs the big hack that I'm not
 comfortable at all with it.

Now, I don't know if there are layouts where the modifier mask would be
different on the second level as opposed to the first (and Ilya's hack or a
similar attempt would fail completely) but there's so many layouts that it'll
take a while to get through them all.

Ilya - this is hardly my area of expertise, so if you can address these
issues - either by commenting here, on the RedHat bugzilla or by
changing the patch - I would greatly appreciate that.

Thanks to all the people who are involved, and lets keep the
communication channels open :-)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812]

2011-12-26 Thread Oded Arbel
(In reply to comment #86)
Already proven to break the XKB specification, yes.

Hi Daniel. I've seen this comment about breaking the XKB specification
in several places and - I'm really not trying to be contrary - I looked
at the protocol specs here
http://www.x.org/releases/current/doc/kbproto/xkbproto.html and I can't
understand how this behavior change contradicts the spec.

Now - I'm not a trained X11 developer, and I'm not even that good at
reading specs, so I would really appreciate it if you can point me at
the section relevant to the breakage you discuss, so I can be more
informed about the issue.

Thanks in advance.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts

2011-02-02 Thread Oded Arbel
@Bryce Harrington: This feature was apparently dropped from the latest
Natty release ( 2:1.9.99.901+git20110131.be3be758-0ubuntu1 -
http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/main/x/xorg-server/xorg-
server_1.9.99.901+git20110131.be3be758-0ubuntu1/changelog ) by
Christopher James Halse Rogers (CCed) with the following comment:

* Drop 208_switch_on_release.diff; upstream

By upstream I figured it meant Debian (the title of the change was
Merge from (unreleased) debian-experimental) and not freedesktop.org -
as I know they didn't commit this fix. On the other hand, I looked
everywhere and couldn't find any reference of such an upstream release
from Debian - and indeed after installing the latest xorg-server, the
functionality has disappeared.

As such I'm reopening this issue and I hope the patch will come back
before Natty is released. Again, thanks for all the effort.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts

2010-09-27 Thread Oded Arbel
I have seen this behavior as well in the patched X-Server, and I may
have also seen this with the original Maverick X-Server - though I'm not
sure about it.

I get this bug triggered only by using Synergy, but with almost 100%
consistency: I use Ubuntu 10.04 as a Synergy server, and 10.10 is the
client. If I move my mouse to the 10.10 screen and try to switch
languages by using ALT-SHIFT on the server keyboard, I get the faulty
behavior.

What happens is that gnome-settings-daemon - which is normally
responsible for switching layouts when you switch applications - starts
switching through all the layouts uncontrollably as if the switching
keys are stuck, and takes up 100% CPU. If you start typing anywhere,
you'd get characters from all layouts mixed together. At this point, if
you try to use the keyboard layout indicator in the session applet,
you'd see that its stuck and does not respond to requests to set the
layout. Finally, sending TERM to gnome-settings-daemon will not stop it
and you must use the KILL signal (-9).

I believe this is a gnome-settings-daemon, mostly as I can also cause
gnome-settings-daemon to spike to 100% CPU usage simply by sending it a
TERM signal while working normally. At which point the keyboard layout
indicator is again stuck and does not respond to actions, but using the
layout switching keys works normally and there is no cycling through the
layouts.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 500079] [NEW] KUbuntu 10.04: KWin effects cannot be enabled on Intel 82Q35 Express

2009-12-24 Thread Oded Arbel
Public bug reported:

I can't enabled KWin desktop effects through the Configure Window

This is a brand new KUbuntu 10.04 beta installed with all updates. Xorg

creating a configuration file using Xorg --configure and that didn't
change anything, even when I added an Extensions section with Option

This also just happened to me. The display is blank (the power led is
blinking to signify that DPMS is off), the mouse and keyboard do not
respond (the num lock led is stuck). Syslog has:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 458230] [NEW] Xorg freezes computer

2009-10-22 Thread Oded Arbel
Public bug reported:

X randomly freezes, and the computer has to be restarted. When that
happens the keyboard does not response (NUM lock does not change the NUM
lock led even), but I can still log in remotely to the server over SSH.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 398026] Re: [GM45] Default 60Hz display mode drives LVDS incorrectly

2009-08-04 Thread Oded Arbel
With KMS disabled, the screen also no longer changes refresh rates when
docking and undocking.

I'll enable KMS and check if I can reproduce the refresh rate change
again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 398026] Re: [GM45] Default 60Hz display mode drives LVDS incorrectly

2009-08-04 Thread Oded Arbel
Ok, I used the kernel command line param and indeed the display names
are as you specified. When KMS is disabled, there is no
/sys/class/drm/card0-LVDS*/modes file.

Here's the output of xrandr:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 398026] Re: [GM45] Default 60Hz display mode drives LVDS incorrectly

2009-08-03 Thread Oded Arbel
Sorry about the late reply - I'm moving to a new apartment and haven't
got much time. It took me a while to figure out what is KMS, and then to
try to disable it. When I add i915.modeset=0 to the kernel command line,
it complains that its an unknown boot option and modinfo shows no such
parameter supported by the i915 module.

for some reason I can't remove i915 in order to reinstall it with the
option on the command line (it complains that the module is in use even
if I shutdown everything X), so I added a modprobe config file in a
final effort to turn it off. I'm not sure that it did anything and I
don't know how to verify, but the output of LVDS modes is identical.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 398026] Re: [GM45] Default 60Hz display mode drives LVDS incorrectly

2009-07-28 Thread Oded Arbel
With the patch applied to 2.6.31.2 , I could not reproduce the screen
corruption problem that is the original complaint of this ticket.

I could not reproduce it ever since I did an upgrade that installed
kernel 2.6.31.3, so on the face of it it looks like another update, and
not the kernel upgrade, fixed the problem.

2009-07-22 Thread Oded Arbel
I applied the patch to the above mentioned kernel and run it. Curiously
it does not feature the screen corruption that was the issue of this
bug, but it does still changes to 85Hz when docked and back to 60Hz when
undocked:

Docked:

incremented each time I dock, so the next modes will be 1b, 1c and 1d.

I can't find the source package for 2.6.31-2 - packages.ubuntu.com only
has 2.6.31-3 and 2.6.30 or older.

Can you please direct me to where I can find ubuntu sources for 2.6.31-2
that I can patch and install?

I've added the patch to 2.6.31-3-generic and there is no change in
behavior (although I think its crashing a bit - but I can't reproduce
reliably).

I'll patch 2.6.31-2 and get back to you with more info (compiling takes
a long time ;-) ).

2009-07-15 Thread Oded Arbel
I also am not seeing corruption issues with the kernel update (I checked
before and after and the kernel update indeed seems to be the reason).

The screen still changes refresh rate when going into and out of
docking, but now all modes look fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 396171] Re: after installing latest x-swat intel driver for Karmic, screen is sometimes corrupted

2009-07-11 Thread Oded Arbel
Just running xrandr doesn't do anything. the output is:
$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 768, maximum 8192 x 8192
VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
LVDS1 connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 287mm x

   800x60085.1 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2
   640x48085.0 72.8 75.0 59.9

   640x40085.1
   640x35085.1
DVI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

Any refresh rate of anything over 60Hz cause the corruption - in this
case the display configuration offers me, as can be seen, 70Hz, 75Hz and
85Hz refresh rates that cause problems.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 396171] Re: after installing latest x-swat intel driver for Karmic, screen is sometimes corrupted

2009-07-10 Thread Oded Arbel
I've noticed that the graphics adapter resets itself to 85Hz refresh
rate - which causes the screen corruption - rather spuriously: when
connecting external monitors or coming back from sleep.

When the screen comes back from sleep, and the refresh rate is reset to
85Hz, I get this in Xorg.0.log:
