[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 240738] Re: syndaemon sometimes fails to disable the touchpad
That's odd. I had no problem disabling the touch in the touchpad settings after I noticed it was enabled by default from a clean Natty install. Sounds like a separate bug if you can't disable it through the GUI. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/240738 Title: syndaemon sometimes fails to disable the touchpad ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 240738] Re: syndaemon sometimes fails to disable the touchpad
Hi Goofy. I marked your bug (#57764) a dupe of this primarily because of the following statements: When i change the settings in kcm-touchpad module and check with synclient -l the settings are indeed changed, however, they have no effect... and: Under Windows the pad works as expected, but under kubuntu its driving my wife crazy because she always hits the pad while typing text with quite unexpected results ;-) You mentioned other symptoms such as the inability to define FingerHigh and FingerLow boundaries, which may be a separate bug if you're still experiencing it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/240738 Title: syndaemon sometimes fails to disable the touchpad ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 240738] Re: syndaemon sometimes fails to disable the touchpad
I wrote to Peter Osterlund, still listed on the Man pages as the author (but he is no longer the maintainer of it.) This is his response: I was not aware of this problem (I don't normally use syndaemon), but I was able to reproduce the problem on my fedora machine. The problem is that the default keyboard polling interval is now 200ms, so keypresses shorter than that risk being missed. There is however an undocumented switch -m to change the polling interval, so try running syndaemon -i 0.5 -k -m 20, which sets the polling interval to 20ms. I guess this change was made to conserve battery power on laptops. It would be better if syndaemon didn't have to poll at all, but I don't know how to implement that, or if it is even possible. Btw, I am no longer maintaining this driver, but feel free to forward my response to whoever is maintaining the driver these days. Best regards, Peter Osterlund I did test it and while the -m 20 didn't seem to make much difference, changing it to -m 2 did resolve the problem. However, as Peter mentioned, it may be too much on the system to poll every 2ms.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 27541] Re: Touchpad should block while typing
This bug affects me too. On my MacbookPro 6-2, I see that syndaemon is running, but it doesn't seem to be working as I would expect. Here's my ps output which shows how syndaemon was started: $ ps aux | grep syndaemon michael 1827 0.0 0.0 29180 1072 ?SOct30 0:20 syndaemon -i 0.5 -k This is the standard setting before I made any changes. I think .5 is enough of a delay, but I did a test and found that even when it was supposedly disabled, it still takes clicks from my touchpad: Opened a terminal and right-clicked the title bar and chose: 'Always on top' Entered the command: syndaemon -i 0.5 -k As I typed in another field, I saw: Disable Enable Disable Enable I also randomly tapped on the touchpad as I was typing. I was able to get the mouse click to register even when the sysdaemon said: disabled. It wasn't every time, but certainly enough to cause problems during normal use. I also tried changing the timeout from .5 sec to 10 sec, and repeated the above experiment. It showed the same results: even though it stated Disabled, the mousepad continued to register clicks and reposition my cursor (though not immediately.) -- Touchpad should block while typing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/27541 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 646860] Re: Touch-pad crazy with Ubuntu 10.04 on laptop Aspire 8530
Hi Claudio. I followed your link on the forum to this bug. According to Google Image Search, the Acer Aspire 8530G, like most laptops, has a 'Touchpad' in the middle of the palm rest. Is it possible that this 'capricious behavior' could be explained by resting your palms on the palm rest and accidentally activating the touchpad while typing? This is a very common behavior and there is a setting to reduce or eliminate this problem (look under System Preferences Mouse Touchpad.) Try placing a thick piece of cardboard on your palm rest (the touchpad might sense through a thin piece,) and see if the problem goes away. If it does, and the setting above doesn't make a difference, this may be a duplicate of bug #27541. -- Touch-pad crazy with Ubuntu 10.04 on laptop Aspire 8530 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/646860 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 515498] [NEW] lucid lynx xorg resume from suspend colored blocks nonresponsive
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg testing Lucid Lynx on a Dell Latitude D630 laptop. It worked fine with Karmic Koala (except for the 'goes into suspend immediately after coming out of suspend, which was fixed about a week ago), but it will not come out of suspend successfully any more. X shows a black background with large pixels of color, similar to a Commodore Vic 20 screen. It does not respond to any keystrokes (ctrl-alt-f1) and forces me to power-cycle it to reboot. Upon reboot everything is normal. I tried putting it in suspend by closing the laptop lid and also by clicking the power icon then selecting Suspend and had the same result. Will try `pm-suspend` after I submit this and will follow up if it is any different. If I don't follow-up, assume it froze upon resume again. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 449208] [NEW] touchpad tap-to-click response delayed .5 seconds
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-mouse This almost seems related to bug # 54191, but I can't reproduce it the way that bug states. I'm running Karmic Koala fully updated and just enabled Enable mouse clicks with touchpad using the gnome-mouse- properties GUI. While it now accepts left-clicks by tapping the touchpad, it seems to take about 1/2 seconds for it to respond. The left mouse hard-buttons (above and below the touchpad) still respond immediately. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-mouse (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - touchpad left-click response delayed .5 seconds + touchpad tap-to-click response delayed .5 seconds ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-mouse This almost seems related to bug # 54191, but I can't reproduce it the way that bug states. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 449208] Re: touchpad tap-to-click response delayed .5 seconds
I have used touchpads to click using several different laptops in both Linux and Windows and it usually reacts immediately. And no, it does not result in interpreting a mouse movement as a left-click. It only registers a click if you touch and release in the same position, not if you slide your finger. Even so, if this is intentional change this bug to a feature request so I can adjust the delay to fit my preference. But as I stated, in my experience this is not normal behavior. -- touchpad tap-to-click response delayed .5 seconds https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/449208 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-mouse in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
