[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1066522] [NEW] Nvidia-current package did not install /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-current_hybrid.conf in Quantal
Public bug reported: I have Quantal with latest updates (proposed is on) on my laptop (Sony VAIO F13Z1R with NVIDIA Geforce GT 425M). When I try to install Nvidia drivers (nvidia-current package) I expect that after reboot I will get nvidia driver, but I get nouveau. The first thing I checked was presence of blacklist files in /etc/modprobe.d/ which prevent nouveau to load. But they are absent. During installation process there is a file /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia- current_hybrid.conf.dpkg-new, but then it dissapears. What is interesting synaptic reports /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-current_hybrid.conf file on 'Installed Files'. But really it was not installed: ls /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-current_hybrid.conf ls: cannot access /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-current_hybrid.conf: No such file or directory Any ideas? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1713313] Re: Unable to launch pkexec'ed applications on Wayland session
@Jeremy Bicha (jbicha) As you may know I created script for automation - see my comment #20 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gui-ufw/+bug/1713313/comments/20 ). And I collected all found problems here. I added more affected packages here: * `apport` because of /usr/share/apport/root_info_wrapper and /usr/share/apport/apport-gtk . * `cinnamon` and `cinnamon-common` because of /usr/share/cinnamon/cinnamon-settings-users/cinnamon-settings-users.py . * `caja-admin` because of /usr/bin/caja as root. * `guidedog` because of "Authentication is required to run Guidedog script" /bin/sh. * `update-notifier-common` because of /usr/lib/update-notifier/cddistupgrader and /usr/lib/update-notifier/package-system-locked . It was too difficult to create separate bug reports for each application for me. I hope that community may help here. I hope that all we make Ubuntu better. ** Also affects: update-notifier (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: apport (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: caja-admin (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: cinnamon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: guidedog (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xdiagnose in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1713313 Title: Unable to launch pkexec'ed applications on Wayland session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/1713313/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

This is a bug about shortcuts mapped to combinations which include each other. For example, if we have Ctrl+Shift (for keyboard layout) and Ctrl+Shift+N (to open a new terminal), then we are practically unable to use the second shortcut; this is what happens: Ctrl press (nothing happens) Shift press (keyboard layout change) N (a simple N appears, since a shortcut has already fired) The expected behavior is to fire shortcuts on the release (not on press) of the special keys (ctrl, shift, alt, etc) which is also how Windows behave. This is a serious problem for bilingual layouts, typically using Alt+Shift or Ctrl+Shift for keyboard layout change. Apparently, the bug has reappeared after the patch that used to fix the problem (208_switch_on_release.diff) has been removed from X.Org 1.19 packages. There is an updated patch in the upstream ticket https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=865 (link to the attachment: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=129861). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1683383] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts (reopen)
I attached patch from ArchLinux AUR (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages /xorg-server-bug865/, https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/tree /freedesktop-bug-865.patch?h=xorg-server-bug865 ). This patch is stable and reliable. ArchLinux users are happy with it. It fixes current bug on Ubuntu Bionic Beaver 18.04 LTS. I have tested it with keyboard layout switcher on GNOME (DESKTOP_SESSION="ubuntu") and MATE desktop (DESKTOP_SESSION="mate"). Please kindly review it and consider applying it before official final release of 18.04 LTS. I'm ready to test proposed packages which (I hope) you would create. Just tested simple idea on Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS with MATE DE. Out-the-box it has Xorg 1.18.4 which perfectly allow user to set for example keyboard shortcut for keyboard layout switching. But when I install HWE on 16.04 LTS I get newer Xorg 1.19.5. Debian 8 (Xorg 1.16.4) and 9 (Xorg 1.19.2) have this problem too (see https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=891915 ). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1796437] Re: X11 crashed when attempting to open Budgie and MATE Welcome
I found the real reason for the crashes. The problematic package is the `gstreamer1.0-vaapi` (see https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/gstreamer1.0-vaapi). It is a dependency of `ubuntu-restricted-addons` (see https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/ubuntu-restricted-addons). So ubuntu-mate-welcome and for example Cheese may be fixed by removing this package with ``` sudo apt-get purge gstreamer1.0-vaapi sudo apt-get autoremove --purge # to remove libgstreamer-plugins-bad1.0-0 (is not a problem) ``` So please carefully analyze the crash dumps for errors in `gstreamer1.0-vaapi` and fix this package. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1796437 Title: X11 crashed when attempting to open Budgie and MATE Welcome To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gstreamer-vaapi/+bug/1796437/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I need to recall that on QEMU/KVM (while using virt-manager the crashes occur with Cirrus, QXL, VGA video drivers, but does not occur with VMVGA video driver) and VirtualBox (tested all versions with default `vboxvideo` driver) the crash is caused by `gstreamer-vaapi` package (see https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/gstreamer1.0-vaapi). It is a dependency of `ubuntu-restricted-addons` (see https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/ubuntu-restricted-addons). So ubuntu-mate-welcome and for example Cheese with Yelp may be fixed by removing this package with ``` sudo apt-get purge gstreamer1.0-vaapi sudo apt-get autoremove --purge # to remove libgstreamer-plugins-bad1.0-0 (is not a problem) ``` So please carefully analyze the crash dumps for errors in `gstreamer1.0-vaapi` and fix this package. I'm not sure about the bug inside `xorg-server` codebase. ** Also affects: gstreamer-vaapi (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags removed: single-occurrence third-party-packages ** Tags added: eoan -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1745345 Title: Xorg assert failure: Xorg: /usr/include/xorg/privates.h:122: dixGetPrivateAddr: Assertion `key->initialized' failed. @vanvugt, could you please elaborate why do you think that `gstreamer- vaapi` is not related to this bug (or really bug 1796437).
