Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] LInux client (controller) currently maintained

2022-10-18 Thread Michael Herger

I, too, would like to understand how a web page could be "run" without a
browser!

It can't. But there are a few ways to hide the fact that it's running a
web page. Electron is one of them. Many popular apps nowadays are
written using web technologies (JS, HTML, CSS), eg. Spotify, Slack, VS
Code etc.

So, asking for a native app, and even considering an Electron app
"native", but refusing to use a web wrapper is kind of joke (not to say
lack of understanding).

Might be worth going through the list of plugins again to see if there
are any others there that might be of interest.
There are quite a few that focus on internet radio.

It is the very first question in their FAQ that you can get to from
https://www.radio.net/contact
However, I suspect it is not quick.
If you think back over the last year ... how many new stations have you
submitted to Radio Browser and how many of those are not in Radio.Net ?
Then pick one ... and see how long it takes to appear after you contact
them?

Agreed.

But it does require a browser, even if most of the browser functionality
is hidden from the user, and the request was strictly for an application
that is not browser-based.

I found it interesting to try SqueezePlay again. I used it briefly when
I was first getting into LMS, but it's been a long time. I'm glad it's
available, but it does not at all suit my needs these days.

Material Skin, saved as an "app", is far more intuitive and easier to

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] LInux client (controller) currently maintained

2022-10-18 Thread RobbH

SqueezePlay running on Linux Mint 20.3 (sorry, I haven't upgraded to 21
yet):

38917

Although it COULD be playing music on the computer on which it is
running, at present it is simply controlling a player in a different
room.

Installing it is straightforward, following the directions on the
download page mentioned previously
(https://sourceforge.net/projects/lmsclients/files/squeezeplay/linux).
As you mentioned, the Readme file is three years old, but the most
recent builds date from last year. The first two lines of the directions
only matter if you have previously installed SqueezePlay form a .deb
file. Clearly, that is not the case, so you can safely skip those two
lines.

Code:

Uninstall the debian package.

  sudo apt-get purge squeezeplay

Create /opt/squeezeplay if it doesn't exist.

  sudo mkdir -p /opt/squeezeplay

  extract the tar file

  sudo tar -C /opt/squeezeplay -xzf squeezeplay-pulse-7.8.0-1149-x86_64.tgz

Before upgrading from tar files remove the old /opt/squeezeplay folder before
extracting the new one, otherwise you could have multiple versions of some
files installed.

  Start using the script /opt/squeezeplay/bin/squeezeplay.sh

If you want your screensaver to start, uncomment export
SDL_VIDEO_ALLOW_SCREENSAVER=1 in the script.

That will install SqueezePlay, but you may find, as I did, that it locks
up while trying to connect to mysqueezebox.com, with no obvious way to
break out. I found these instructions in the Readme file for the Windows
version of jivelite, which solved the problem for me.

Code:

Troubleshooting

If you're computer has multiple active network interfaces, for example
wireless and vpn connections, and after you've completed the initial setup,
jivelite returns from Scanning for Players without finding one, try this.

After Scanning for Players fails, click and hold the left arrow button to the
left of Choose Player, near the top.

  Click Settings->Advanced->Networking->Remote Libraries->Add New Library.

Enter the IP address of your LMS server and click Done->Connect to this
library.

At this point if you can't connect to the library Quit jivelite and restart
it.

Jivelite should connect to your library right away.

Once you've done that, you will need to go back to the first level of
Settings and selection the "Choose Player" option, which will allow you
to control any Squeezebox player on your network from your computer.

I think this is exactly what you asked for in your first post,
brainchild. Enjoy!

Where was this mentioned? I do not find any mention of Material Design
in this thread, before your post. (I searched for the word "design" in
this thread and your recent post was the only thing that came up.)

Material SKIN is a plugin for LMS that provides an alternate web
interface. That's what has been recommended for you, several times. The
interface is still a web page and it does require a browser.

I, too, would like to understand how a web page could be "run" without a
browser!

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer 8.0.0 - Bluetooth Discussion

2022-10-18 Thread mr-b

I tried on another PC and was able to replicate this i.e. udate BT s/w
and the tablt can still connect but no audio is heard.

Then I wwent back to the old BT s/w and tried it with Windows 11.
Wi11 could see the PCP but it couldn't connect. Event Log says "The
mutual authentication between the local BT adapter and a device with BT
address (blah blah) failed."
So the behaviour is the same with the old and updated PCP BT s/w.

Interestingly the BT address in the Win11 event log is not seen at all
in the PCP logs, but I've no idea if I'm making an incorrect assumption
about BT addresses being similar to MAC addrsses.

2022-10-18 Thread mr-b

After trying out Win11 which I thought had messed up my existing tabet
BT pairing, I decided to do an image restore. After that the tablet
worked fine.

Then before trying out Win11 again tonight I thought it prudent to
update BT. How wrong I was!
First of all my tablet would no longer connect to PCP. So I deleted the
BT pairing on the tablet and did a Forget on PCP.
Then I re-paired the tablet with PCP, it reconnected but now there is no
music playing to be heard.

Do the logs make any sense?

Not a particularly new release …
pi@rpi0-livrm:~ $ uname -a
Linux rpi0-livrm 5.4.79+ #1373 Mon Nov 23 13:18:15 GMT 2020 armv6l
GNU/Linux

I do have a python script listening for upd packets - the lsnr turns on
the connected amp via GPIO pin switching an isolated MOSFET switch. Top
shows around 0.7% mem usage for the python process and less than 1% cpu
at any given time. It doesn’t seem like this could be the cause - I
cannot see a mem leak over time.

The reproducibility is indeed a key problem. The reason why I switched
to RaspiOS was so I could leave it running and logging for a long while
to catch the moment it fails and analyse logs retrospectively.

I keep thinking it must be hardware given that setup A had the same
os/sw as setup B originally. The only real diff between the 2 setups
originally, was the psu and dc-dc converters. I think setup B has enough
pwr, but maybe the superior, isolated dc-dc converter makes a difference
for PicorePlayer?

Appreciate the suggestions and input. I will keep monitoring.

Thank you for your answer.

Unluckily i am not clever enough to fix this problem. I didn't read to
all the pages of the thread you have mentioned, but i tried some things
i found here and there.

dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-V3D -> not working
dtoverlay=vc4-kms-V3D -> not working
picoreplayer ver 7 -> not working
tried on my TV -> not working

Everytime, after the splashscreen with Picoreplayer shows up, the screen
goes black.

My Raspberry is a Model 4 Model B Rev 1.5, could this be the problem?
I don't know. I guess, i will stay with my Original 7" Touchdisplay and
the Waveshare Screen goes back.
It's quite good.
