Look at the piCorePlayer applet in Jivelite, along with backup, there is
an option specifically to deal with the screen off screensaver.

For the settings on reboot … there is a menu item in the pCP specific
part of Jivelite to make a backup - because pCP avoids writing to
storage unless told to do it.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Noob Question - HDMI output with pCP/Jivelite and attached screen.

2023-01-02 Thread Paul Webster

I don't remember if pCP is happy driving 2 screens.
However, an alternative approach is to run some extra software to
customise the output to a screen.
I am sure that there is more than one set of tooling that does this -
but I noticed this one was discussed recently.
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?116489-Track-Info-etc-on-OLED-for-PCP
I think the display part is generic and does not rely on using
AudioSabre DAC.

2022-12-30 Thread Paul Webster

I suggest trying the 32-bit pCP because pCP team often say that the 64
bit version brings its own issues.

If that does not work then try removing the "hdmi" lines from the end of
the file.

If that still does not work then try putting a value in for gpu_mem ...
perhaps 64 or 128 (and remove the # from the start of the line when
trying it.

The gpu_mem line should be "commented out" ... start with a #

My last one is with someone else so I do not have the config.txt here.

Best thing to do is post yours here (paste as text and surround it with
(code) (/code) ... replace the round barckets with square ones ... plus
state which pCP version you are running and paste in the text of the
output of the list of devices after backup and reboot.

However, for a system that I built recently I went back to pCP 8.1 (or
maybe 8.0) so that the TV remote could be used to navigate the menus

In the past I have left those 2 lines in place and still used HDMI, but
that was with KMS not FKMS.

I read a description of them that said that they use HDMI ARC (Audio
Return Channel) ... if that is the only way that they work then they
might not work at all when directly connected to Raspberry Pi.

So a suggestion ... see if you can get those HDMI connected speakers to
work with a regular Raspberry Pi OS.
If you can then it suggests that it should be possible with pCP once the
correct incantations are found.
If you cannot then you might be able to get help from Raspberry Pi
themselves ... but if only ARC then might be doomed.

You are multi-zone … but the zones are very close together.
Simply run an extra copy of Squeezelite with a different audio
destination.

You might have to write your own script but if you have found a
description elsewhere then hopefully that guide will tell you how to do
it.
For the 2nd instance … tell it to pretend to have a different “MAC”
address so that LMS sees it as a different player - and give it a
different name (eg sub).

There might be other ways of doing it - eg using ALSA

Most internet radio stations are 44.1KHz (like a CD) some are 48KHz
(like DAB radio - e.g. BBC).
You can usually see what is playing via the "More" function in the web
UI.

If the device was listed when clicking “more” in pCP web interface then
it really should have been OK for Squeezelite- at least to run.

You could try running Squeezelite from the command line (pCP can be
coaxed to show you what it is using) and then you might see a more
specific error message at the terminal.

I don't remember if "killall" is on pCP installations ... so

ps -ef | grep perl
will output something like
17431 tc 22:48 {slimserver.pl} /usr/bin/perl
/usr/local/slimserver/slimserver.pl --daemon --user tc --group staff
17687 tc0:00 grep perl

rake the first number with the slimserver.pl on it ... in this case
17431 but your will be different and type

sudo kill -5 17431
but replace that number with yours.
I suspect "-5" will be enough ... if not then try -9
Do
ps -ef | grep perl
again and you should see the slimserver.pl has gone.

Just to double-check ...

The system that you cannot reliably ping is where your LMS is
installed.

If you access the console you can stop LMS (by stopping the perl process
that is running it).

You can then check to see if the networking situation improves.

If it doe then at least there is somewhere to research further.
For example - something could be stealing all of the CPU and the system
is unable to respond to pings etc in a timely fashion.

Then you could remove the BBCSounds plugin from the file system and
restart LMS.

Then you could see if things are back to normal.

It does seem unlikely though.

There is a button on the LMS page that allows the user to remove the LMS
cache plus there is functionality to ask if cache should be preserved

Those items change behaviour depending on whether or not LMS cache is
found.

Perhaps the pCP team can come up with a way to make it more efficient
(e.g. store result in a file and recreate the file if user choose to

Yes, glibc is generally the issue. pCP was generally ahead of RaspiOS

Michael provided a line of code from the pCP web page provider that is
called when you visit that page in pCP.
I presume that pCP is trying to determine where the cache file is so
that you can move it later if needed.
LMS is not involved in that in any way.

If it does not work with a recent Raspberry Pi OS (I tested with
2022-09-22-raspios-bullseye-armhf ) then it is almost certainly not
going to work with pCP.

If using raspios then the only thing you have to do is
sudo cec-ctl --playback
because it defaults to using kms and the tooling is already installed.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Reading list in picoplayer ?

That warning is a general purpose reminder ... that you should shutdown
LMS properly rather than simply turning off the power.

pCP without LMS can tolerate simply being turned off because it once it
is running it makes almost no use of the "disk".
However, that changes when LMS is running.
LMS frequently writes to the storage - and turning off while a write is
in progress can make a mess of the file system and if it was writing the
its underlying database then it is possible that LMS would not restart
on reboot.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer Documentation

2022-11-13 Thread Paul Webster

8.1 works

Minimum steps to reproduce

Fresh SD card and put pCP 8.1 on it
Edit config.txt
gpu_mem=80 # For RPi1 not sure if needed for others

dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d

No need to comment out dtparam=audio=on ... which brings bonus that
"headphone" device will still exist and, I presume, be available for
Squeezelite (along with HDMI via iec958:CARD=vc4hdmi,DEV=0 )

Extensions - add v4l2-utils.tcz (to get the CEC controls)
(no need to resize SD card in this minimum setup - but you will have to
if you later install Jivelite).

pcp br

sudo cec-ctl --playback (ultimately ... put it in Tweaks as a startup
option but without "sudo " at the front)

sudo cec-ctl --monitor

use TV remote arrow keys and you should see
Received from TV to Playback Device 1 (0 to 4): POLL
Received from TV to Playback Device 1 (0 to 4): USER_CONTROL_PRESSED
(0x44):
ui-cmd: right (0x04)
Received from TV to Playback Device 1 (0 to 4): USER_CONTROL_RELEASED
(0x45)
Received from TV to Playback Device 1 (0 to 4): USER_CONTROL_PRESSED
(0x44):
ui-cmd: down (0x02)
Received from TV to Playback Device 1 (0 to 4): USER_CONTROL_RELEASED
(0x45)
Received from TV to Playback Device 1 (0 to 4): USER_CONTROL_PRESSED
(0x44):
ui-cmd: up (0x01)
Received from TV to Playback Device 1 (0 to 4): USER_CONTROL_RELEASED
(0x45)
Received from TV to Playback Device 1 (0 to 4): USER_CONTROL_PRESSED
(0x44):
ui-cmd: left (0x03)
Received from TV to Playback Device 1 (0 to 4): USER_CONTROL_RELEASED
(0x45)
Received from TV to Playback Device 1 (0 to 4): POLL

You should also see that "up" does command line history recall if you
have the RPi console visible on TV.
If you had installed Jivelite and had it visible then you should be able
to move through the menus (do not use Grid screen because no way to do
equivalent of click / brightness).

The cursor keys work - which is enough to do basic things in non-grid
skin.

Would be great if someone in pCP team can repeat this success.

I tried to repeat with 8.2 and it did not work ... HDMI via KMS working
fine ... but CEC commands not seen on the way in.

sudo cec-ctl --monitor
does not show the IR commands coming in.

Will try again with 8.1 to try to work out when the retrograde step
happened.

For a reason that ai have not yet worked out, I am not able to get kms
working with pCP 8.2 on my spare RPi 1.

However, try this on a pCP system that has kms + HDMI working:
Install extension v4l-utils
Then put this in startup tweaks

cec-ctl —playback
(MinusMinus)
and reboot

You should get a multi-line console message when booting showing that it
found the CEC device

That might be enough for it to work (it is on latest Raspberry Pi OS).

If it does not work … try from command line:
sudo cec-ctl —monitor
and press a few keys on TV remote to see if anything gets printed on
terminal

Try adding some more criteria to the search - e.g. artist name starts
with "a" or year after 1999.
Make it very restrictive at first just to see if it works.
If it does then perhaps the size was the issue.

With a real playlist you would have to remember to add to it when new
tracks are added to your system.
With the Library View or Dynamic Playlists the data is updated
automatically when new tracks are added or old ones removed.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] picoreplayer and plexamp headless on the same rpi

2022-11-11 Thread Paul Webster

pCP is not a full blown operating system like Raspberry Pi OS ... so
many things that you might think should be possible on a "regular" Linux
system are not straight-forward in pCP.
There is often a way to do it but at the expense of working out how the
installer works for the application that you want.

However, you can run Squeezelite on a regular Linux for Raspberry Pi.
So while you lose the ease of use that pCP brings, you gain the ability
to install and run pretty well anything that works on RPi.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Reading list in picoplayer ?

2022-11-11 Thread Paul Webster

I have not tried this ... but take a look at the Dynamic Playlist
plugin.
Another approach could be to use "Library Views".
First do the "Advanced Search" and then when that is providing the
tracks that you expected you can use save that as a Library View ... and
then you can select that view when you want to play some or all of those
tracks.

2022-11-08 Thread Paul Webster

For SB Classic it is LMS that is (indirectly) driving the display so all
of the controllable elements are in the LMS menu.
For Radio (and Touch and Controller) it is the player (SqueezePlay/Jive)
that is driving the display based on a different set of stats that LMS
sends it.
So the configuration is via SqueezePlay and the applets that are
installed within it.

Yes - bonjour - but in theory not needed with modern versions of Windows
10 as seems to be the case for you given that others work.

Another idea … which won’t be right if it worked on same RPi and same AP
with Raspberry Pi OS … perhaps the UDP broadcast not going through the
WIFi AP.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer on RPi Zero W - first time wifi settings

2022-11-05 Thread Paul Webster

Modern Windows Notepad can preserve line endings but I don’t think it
offers a “save as” choice.
So if you start from a fresh file in Windows Notepad then it has Windows
line endings.

However, if your RPi is getting a reachable IP address then it is
working.

If pcp.local is not working (and you have not personalised the host
name) then it implies, to me, that your Windows machine does not have
mDNS support.

For older versions of Windows, installing Apple iTunes is one way to get
it.
(not checked back to see which version of Windows you are running).

Easy way to verify … use NotepadPlusPlus (open source) and tell it to

2022-11-04 Thread paul-

By no-network, do you mean that LMS installed on the same device that is
getting the bluetooth connection. But the device itself is not
connected to the network.

Yes you can do it that way..There is still networking processes
running on the local device.

Create a simple script that waits for the specific player name to be
recognized by LMS, then issue the play command.

That script would be ran at startup in the user commands portion of pCP.

Its up to LMS to remember the playback modenothing I can do about
that from the bluetooth side. Once the player connects, take a look a
the lms interface and see what is in the playback queue.

As for the logs, that all looks normal, you will notice in the second
log that you are pressing the play/pause button on the speaker. Again,
that all looks normal.

2022-11-02 Thread paul-

I had one speaker device that would not try to connect when powered
on.never could figure out why. None of my other headsets/speakers
do that.

Power off your speaker and reboot your pi, then ssh in

run "bluetoothctl"

type: paired-devices

You should see a list of devices that are paired on your systemmake
sure your speaker's mac address is shown. If it is not then there is
something preventing the backup of the paired devices...

type: info

This should show settings for the paired device, I'm mainly interested
to know what is in the "trust" field. The device should be trusted.

Power on speaker,

Type: connect

What do you see.
