Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Does piCorePlayer 3.22 work on the Raspberry Pi 3B+?
Just a quick warning wrt. the 3B+ power consumption: it draws more power than the 3B. I did a drop-in replacement of an existing 3B with the 3B+, using the same power supply, cable, SD card. At some point I noticed I'd get the little flash in the upper right corner, warning about under-voltage or whatever. I didn't pay much attention until I came to realise that the LMS update would crash, likely due to too high power consumption. Much to my surprise the limiting factor wasn't the power supply (iPhone charger), but the cable! Replaced the cable with one of those nice, bright yellow UE charging cables, and voilà! The LMS update succeeded, and no more yellow flash. -- Michael ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Good for you. I'm sure 3.50 will be wonderful. I have had so much fun and success with pCP and RPI's. I've got one player with a touch screen, one as a player+DAC and one as a server. The only Logitech player I still use with any frequency is my Transporter. Howard Zomby Woof wrote: > Glad to trip over this thread! Actually, the more I look at this, since this uses a new lan chip, the lan driver was not enabled in the kernel config until yesterday. So even if you get the firmware updated, the lan chip will not have a driver. There will also be a update for wiringpi to support the new board, It appears that the library functions are fine, but if you use the gpio utility, it will not work. We could release pCP 3.5.0 without support, But I'm leaning towards holding the release until we get the changes for the 3B+ made. paul-'s Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58858 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108818 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Just to clarify, in fact that new product is a "PoE + CPU Fan" HAT. 'It works without the Fan, but some business users use PoE for high-density deployments (in racks)' (https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=1285559#p1285559), so they've thrown 2 independent features into one product. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Does piCorePlayer 3.22 work on the Raspberry Pi 3B+?
The next version of pCP will be 3.5.0 (Moving to a new numbering scheme), which is seems that just about when we start to wrap things up, we get hit.sourceforge, now this. So far, I've not seen anything special drop in the RPI firmware that would indicate that eve 3.22 would not work. But I could see with the new USB chipset, we might need to move from dwc_otg to dwc2 driver. But time will tell. We have hardware on the way for testing too.. paul-'s Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58858 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108818 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Does piCorePlayer 3.22 work on the Raspberry Pi 3B+?
Well of course netbooting is extremely useful in a player. The SD is the most fragile part of a Pi, it is easy to steal or misplace. Get rid of it and you can conceal a player almost anywhere. With PoE you can do away with the need for a power socket nearby. Unfortunately that HAT seems to use a fan, so it is potentially noisy and fragile. They also say the new chip also includes improvements to USB booting, perhaps having an external system entirely on USB will be safer than before. If all works as advertised, you could have a pCP server with one big USB drive (LMS+music+players OSes) and wired pCP clients dotted around the building, with a single point of install/administration. And not a single SD to fiddle with. I think this release is big news. 3 SB 3 Libratone Loop, Zipp Mini iPeng (iPhone + iPad) LMS 7.9 (linux) with plugins: CD Player, WaveInput, Triode's BBC iPlayer by bpa IRBlaster by Gwendesign (Felix) Server Power Control by Gordon Harris Smart Mix, Music Walk With Me, What Was That Tune? by Michael Herger PowerSave by Jason Holtzapple Song Info, Song Lyrics by Erland Isaksson AirPlay Bridge by philippe_44 WeatherTime by Martin Rehfeld Auto Dim Display, SaverSwitcher, ContextMenu by Peter Watkins. epoch1970's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16711 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108818 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

I'd love to hear reviews from people who compared these new Pi with Pi3 and see if they notice any difference in audio quality  sdiesel77's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=64065 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108818 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Ooo, nice little upgrade on network bandwidth. PXE boot too, no more crappy SD cards with a netboot setup. Buy one anyway, I'm sure PcP will be updated with a suitable kernel before long. :) -Transcoded from Matt's brain by Tapatalk- -- Hardware: 3x Touch, 1x Radio, 2x Receivers, 1 HP Microserver NAS with Debian+LMS 7.9.0 Music: ~1300 CDs, as 450 GB of 16/44k FLACs.
