This is normal. More than one pool pointing to secondary storage can
exist at a time so they can't all be named after the ID in CloudStack.

So that entry of the filesystem being mounted is orphaned in
/etc/mtab, since it can't be removed. That seems to be the source of
why 'df' shows the thing mounted when it isn't, at least.

I would always advise having a standalone xenserver cluster for management
purposes. Typically consisting of 2 hosts to host the cloudstack

Subject: Virtualizing Cloudstack Manager onto XenServer host

Hello,
I am setting up a small test cluster and decided to use XenServer this
time with Cloudstack 4.2.0. I would like to run the management server on
the cluster, but since XenServer uses its own OS install rather than
CentOS, I believe that means I cannot run the manager on it bare metal like
I would for KVM. Is it possible for me to create the management server on
a VM which I then would use to connect to the cluster for cloudstack
functionality?
Thanks, David Ortiz

2013-10-04 Thread Travis Graham
Can you check your /opt/xensource/bin directory contains the vhd-util script
from http://download.cloud.com.s3.amazonaws.com/tools/vhd-util ?

Another gotcha, zones are disabled when you first create them, can you check
that your zone is enabled? (you mentioned setting things up fresh, so that's a
gotcha I've seen in fresh installs)

Re: cloudstack 4.2 xenserver 6.2 template not downloading

2013-10-04 Thread Dean Kamali
Thanks Travis

I'm actually using the same image
systemvmtemplate-2013-07-12-master-xen.vhd.bz2

I can confirm that there is something wrong with this image when its being
used with xenserver 6.2

can't really think of anything else :(

Re: cloudstack 4.2 xenserver 6.2 template not downloading

2013-10-04 Thread Dean Kamali
checking system vm logs /var/log/cloud.log, I see the following in the logs

[SSVM] Unable to start agent: Resource class not found:
org.apache.cloudstack.storage.resource.NfsSecondaryStorageResource due to:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException:
org.apache.cloudstack.storage.resource.NfsSecondaryStorageResource

storage is not mounted upon boot, even tho, I'm able to mount secondary
storage manually

I came across this issue

https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CLOUDSTACK-1994

It has the extract symptoms I'm currently having

I'm unable to find download URL for new system vm.

Any ideas?

Thank you

Re: cloudstack 4.2 xenserver 6.2 template not downloading

2013-10-04 Thread Dean Kamali
I have switched to CentOS 6.4, thinking that might resolve the issue, but
I'm still having the same issue, I have followed the document provided
by Nitin and nothing stood out being out of the ordinary, yet, I can't
download any templates or ISO images, keep in mind this is a fresh install
of 4.2 and I'm not upgrading off 4.1.1

I have noticed that Secondary storage vm agent doesn't show as up in the
UI, not sure if that's a normal behavior.

RE: cloudstack 4.2 xenserver 6.2 template not downloading

2013-10-04 Thread Steve Searles
I was having a similar issue last night. I have been running 4.1 without issue
with both Xen and Vmware. I installed 4.2 in the lab to do some testing before
a full upgrade. Below are the issues I have found so far and the workarounds I
found. I am using Ubuntu 12.04 for the MS and building the nonoss code from
source.

1. System VM's will not provison. (NFS FAILURE) apparently after building the
deb packages and installing them the correct permissions are not being set on
/var/lib/cloud and the nfs mounts are failing due to to permissions for the
cloud user. (chown -R cloud.cloud /var/lib/cloud). This has corrected the
issue.

2. System VM's will provision and pass connectivity tests but templates will
never begin downloading from cloud.com. To make a long story short I
pre-populated my secondary storage with all of the system images for
KVM,VmWare, Xen, and LXC. The problem seems to be an issue with the SSVM
enumerating the value of the LXC template from the secondary storage and
returning "Number Format Exception". Below is a log I pulled from the SSVM
running on vmware that caused the issue. I removed the LXC template and the
KVM template from the secondary storage and restarted the SSVM, the template
download then succeeded. Below is a log snip from the SSVM that was causing the
error. Hope this helps.

Virtualizing Cloudstack Manager onto XenServer host

2013-10-04 Thread David Ortiz
Hello,
I am setting up a small test cluster and decided to use XenServer this
time with Cloudstack 4.2.0. I would like to run the management server on the
cluster, but since XenServer uses its own OS install rather than CentOS, I
believe that means I cannot run the manager on it bare metal like I would for
KVM. Is it possible for me to create the management server on a VM which I
then would use to connect to the cluster for cloudstack functionality?
Thanks, David Ortiz

2013-10-04 Thread Dean Kamali
Hi Shanker

Are you using Ubuntu or CentOS to run CS Management station?

It is very strange that system vms boots up correctly and check scripts
pass all tests.

Please let me know

Thanks

Re: Create Template on NFS secondary Storage

2013-10-04 Thread Pierre-Luc Dion
Hi Kirk and Travis,

Thanks for your fast answer and reply. The problem was the one Kirk
mention, NFFSSR.py have been replace by an hotfix, we recently apply a
xenserver hotfix and since then we had problem creating templates. Pretty
much in the same time we add a new zone so I wasn't sure which event cause
the issue which is why I did not say it in the first email.

doe anyone know if there is a doc reference of all scripts replace on
xenserver by cloudstack? if it is not the only script.

That said, the only doc I've found regarding updating hypervisors is
http://cloudstack.apache.org/docs/en-US/Apache_CloudStack/4.2.0/html/Admin_Guide/maintain-hypervisors-on-hosts.html
which contain an outdated link.

Thanks again !

2013-10-04 Thread Daan Hoogland
Rafael,

You can add a jira ticket and/or write a functional spec on the wiki. Of
course if you want guarantee that it will be doen, you'll have to do it
yourself. You can ask on the dev list for help if you don't feel up to it.

Re: How to hide some server offerings?

2013-10-04 Thread France
Then use my previous suggestion. To write it again, step by step
tutorial style.

For users:
1. Create a new domain uder ROOT, let's say Public.
2. Create users in this Public domain.
3. Create service offerings specific/tied to Public domain.

For admins:
1. Create a new domain under ROOT, let's say Private.
2. Create service offerings specific/tied to Private domain.

Service offerings from Private and Public domain will be available to
Administrators and service offerings from and only from Public domain
will be available to users in Public domain.

I could also write using CAPS LOCK as you did, but i don't think it
would help you understand any better.

Good luck and Regards,
F.

to hide them.

So, THE ADMINISTRATORS CAN AND SHOULD USE THESE SPECIAL SERVICE

So you want to have a user(s), that can create new infrastructure
(compute, storage nodes, networks) but it's not able to create
service offerings on them? I guess no one envisioned such a need.
Normally if one can manage infrastructure on which services will
reside, it should be able to create service offerings too.

For what you're trying to to (if i understand you right), i would
have set up different, discrete CS installs.

Move those "administrators" to their own domains as normal users.
Administrators will always be able to see/configure
everything, that's the basic point of being administrator.

users that manage the whole infrastructure, they are linked
directly to the root domain.

Saying that, how would create the service offering that
should just be visible to the administrators? Keep in mind
that they are on the root domain.

2013/10/4 France mailto:mailingli...@isg.si>>

It's called inheritance.
I put my public users to public domain.
I put my private users to their private domain(s).
And then I put specific service offerings to specific
domains and are visible only there.
I guess if i wanted something cross domains i would put
it to domain root (like you) and everyone (because it's
under domain root) would be able to use it.

Re: How to hide some server offerings?

2013-10-04 Thread France
So you want to have a user(s), that can create new infrastructure
(compute, storage nodes, networks) but it's not able to create service
offerings on them? I guess no one envisioned such a need. Normally if
one can manage infrastructure on which services will reside, it should
be able to create service offerings too.

For what you're trying to to (if i understand you right), i would have
set up different, discrete CS installs.

Move those "administrators" to their own domains as normal users.
Administrators will always be able to see/configure everything,
that's the basic point of being administrator.

Problem when booting vm CS 4.2

2013-10-04 Thread Koen Vanoppen
Hi all,

I recently upgraded my CS from 4.1.1 to 4.2.
Now I have the following problem when creatin a new instance from my
templates.
When cloudstack starts to boot the instance I get the following error:
Unable to start instance due to InvocationTargetException when invoking RPC
callback for command: createVolumeFromBaseImageCallBack.

The template works fine (I did the upgrade in our test environment but used
the same templates).
I only added a shared network in the new cloudstack 4.2.

Kind regards,

Koen

Re: ssvm not taking ip from cloudstack

Why are you running competing DHCP servers on networks that CloudStack
supposes are its networks?

There are ways around this, essentially configure your non-CloudStack
DHCP instance to ignore any of the MACs range handed out by
CloudStack.

I strongly agree, it is something very interesting and pretty simple to

Hmm.. but it still does. maybe a bug ?
snapshot.backup.rightafterbackup snapshot right after snapshot is takenfalse

Primary storage is Ceph/RDB, Secondary is NFS. I restarted both the

not really sure if this helps:

Zone wide Primary Storage after upgrade to CS 4.2

2013-10-04 Thread Andrei Mikhailovsky
Hello guys,

Before upgrading to CS 4.2 I would like to check the behaviour of Primary
Storage which are currently bound to a particular cluster. How would this work
with the support of the zone wide primary storage? Would all my primary
storages be automatically converted to a zone wide primary storage, or is this
something that I need to do manually? If I have to convert the primary storage
manually, what is the correct procedure? Would it cause the downtime?

Many thanks

Andrei

It would be interesting to propose this feature for the new version of
cloudstack, why not for the cs 4.3 ?

Re: Offer HA on Compute Offering?

2013-10-04 Thread Koushik Das
"Offer HA" in compute offering is for compute HA. If a VM is created with a
compute HA offering (HA enabled VM) then in the event of host failure it will
be migrated to another host. HA is NOT enabled by default.

Hi Indra,

Offer HA is nothing but it will monitor the system VM's and if set to yes
then it will be highly available as possible
You can set the same when you create a new compute offerings.

Offer HA on Compute Offering?

2013-10-04 Thread Indra Pramana
Dear all,

Anyone knows what is the meaning of "Offer HA" function when we create a
new compute offering? Is it referring to the compute HA (e.g. VM instance
will be auto-failover to another hypervisor host if the existing host is
down) or storage HA (auto-failover to another primary storage)?

I thought compute / hypervisor host HA is already enabled by default for
all the VM instances?

Looking forward to your reply, thank you.

Cheers.

[SOLVED] Re: Slow network speed to VM instances after upgrade to CloudStack 4.2.0

2013-10-04 Thread Indra Pramana
Hi Kirk,

Good day to you, and thank you for your e-mail.

Yes, I have confirmed that the compute offering is causing this. The
network rate on the compute offering for all the VMs were set to 2
Mbit/sec. For some reason, the network rate was not enforced when I was
still using CloudStack 4.1.1 and earlier, but now being enforced on
CloudStack 4.2.0.

Thank you for your detailed information on compute offering. I have tested
by creating a new compute offering with higher network rate (100 Mbit/sec),
shutdown the instance, change service offering to the new compute offering,
and start back the instance. I am able to get much higher bandwidth during
my speedtest now.

Thank you.

Hi Marcus and Kirk,

Good day to you, and thank you for your email replies.

We are using Ceph RBD primary storage. I can't find any error information
on agent.log, and I have set the logging to verbose (DEBUG) for all.

Since I am using RBD, am I still able to run the qemu-img info command?

I check the volumes table contain load of information. How do I check which
record is referring to the virtual disk in question?

Looking forward to your reply, thank you.

Cheers.

Re: Slow network speed to VM instances after upgrade to CloudStack 4.2.0

2013-10-04 Thread Kirk Kosinski
Hi, your observations on Compute Offerings are by design. They can only
be created and managed by admin accounts, and only the name and
description can be edited. They can be public or domain-specific, but a
root admin account should be able to view all of them.

Instead of editing existing offerings to set the desired network
throttling, new ones need to be created (using an admin account) and the
VMs updated. VMs will need to be stopped, and it can be done by a root
admin or the user that owns the VMs. The change can be made via UI or
API (changeServiceForVirtualMachine command).

But are you sure the Compute Offering is causing this? Is the Network
Rate on the Compute Offering for the affected VMs set to 2 Mbit/sec?
What hypervisor are the affected VMs running on, and what type of
network (isolated or shared)? The actual network throttling seen by VMs
is complicated and depends on a combination of factors including:

1) Network type (isolate or shared)
2) Hypervisor of the guest
3) Hypervisor of the virtual router (for isolated networks)
4) NIC driver of virtual router (for vSphere)
5) Network Offering for the network
6) Compute Offering for the instance
7) System Service Offering for the virtual router (isolated networks)
8) Direction of traffic (ingress or egress)
9) The vm.network.throttling.rate global parameter
10) The network.throttling.rate zone parameter
11) Actual physical capabilities of the network and hosts

Best regards,
Kirk
