[libreoffice-users] compatibility with openoffice on a rtf file

2012-08-27 Thread zig
I have a text file in format .rtf with a simple table. The file appears
the same in open office and word2003. But in libre office it is correct
only up to the beginning of the table, later on all the text is
presented in the last (very long!) column and it is unusable.

Is this a bug? Do I have some method to avoid the problem?
Thanks in advance

This problem is really unfortunate. I experienced this issue and was able
to follow the procedures that I had found previously to install the
software on my Win 64bit machine. However users of this software should
never see this issue. It needs to be fixed quickly. I cannot recommend
installing this version until the software installs smoothly and easily on
Windows.

You must not embed images in your embedded database. Any form with a

For future reference, it's not a good idea to store big binary data,
or, imnvho, any binary data, in database tables, certainly not in the
hsqldb tables that LO uses as internal. Store names of files not
the files themselves. You can get trouser pockets big enough for
beach balls, but it's not a great idea.

Mark Stanton

Mark,

I have definitely learned my lesson. Is there a way I can access the
database table or form to remove the images? I am not able to get anything
to open at all once the DB is opened.

Thanks,

Re: [libreoffice-users] Libreoffice and Java

2012-08-27 Thread Tom Randall

Hi Bob and all.

I've been through the wringer on this and have still not got much of
anywhere. It seems some people have major problems with this and some just
don't seem to. I spent well over an hour going through the steps listed on
bugzilla that were supposed to fix this, e.g. uninstalling java completely,
cleaning the registry, installing the new java, setting the javahome
variable and path, re-installing the JAB, etc. etc.

This did sort of fix my problem, LO at least no longer says that my JRE is
defective when I try to enable accessibility. However from what I can tell
the accessibility is still not working correctly. Supernova still does not
read my menus or the state of checkboxes. NVDA doesn't either so I know it
is not a Supernova problem. I have no idea what to do at this point and am
frankly about to give up on this. Don't misunderstand me, the folks on this
list have been very helpful trying to help me figure this out. However
while telling me that LO isn't the problem and that it's Windows and Java is
all good and fine and I actually do believe this is the case, it does not
fix this and I still have a productivity suite that does not allow me to be
productive. This is not something I am fooling around with as some sort of
project, I depend on it for getting paperwork done for my work. I used to
recommend this package for my students especially those on a limited income
and I probably still will for the very few tech savvy ones I get but for
most of them if you start talking to them about Javahome variables and
setting paths they're going to ask you what the living hell you're
blabbering about. I swore I'd never give Microshaft another dime for an
Office package but that's what they use where I work and unless I get
someplace with this pretty quick I may not have a choice.

Apologies to the list for the rant, I realize this thing is a work in
progress and it's free and all that, however this is a serious issue for me.
I really want to be able to offer people an alternative to shelling out 150
bucks for a word processor and spreadsheet but I won't be able to unless I
find a reasonable way to fix this.

Best regards,

Tom

Try ToolsSQL...
ALTER TABLE TableName DROP COLUMN Pics;

If this does not help, You can extract the script file out of the

RTFs are not the perfect solution the open-sourcers would like to think.
I edit a small newsletter, and I used to get copy from the publisher in
rtf format. Frequently the copy would spill over
the right-hand side of the page and be truncated. This would happen in
OO, LO, often Symphony, sometimes even WordPerfect (on Windows). If WP
couldn't read it, it was useless,
but the diddling around to make it work was a royal PITA. (The files
originated in MSWord for Mac.) Now I take the input in MSWord .doc
(2003 or so edition) and Symphony reads them
fine. Symphony, altho a close cousin to OO and LO, is polished and
finished, and even tho it has a few glitches, I like it far better than
either OO or LO, which will probably never be

polished and finished.

Thanks,

CREATE CACHED TABLE Table1(ID INTEGER GENERATED BY DEFAULT AS
IDENTITY(START WITH 0) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, Pictures LONGVARBINARY,
Words VARCHAR(100), Slang VARCHAR(75))

After removing the image field, the SQL becomes:

CREATE CACHED TABLE Table1(ID INTEGER GENERATED BY DEFAULT AS
IDENTITY(START WITH 0) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, Words VARCHAR(100), Slang
VARCHAR(75))

This is an example of the SQL for defining a table in the script
file. The field containing the images is Pictures, and its field type is
LONGVARBINARY. Both of these should be removed from the SQL statement.
Remember that this is a list separated by commas. You might need to remove
a comma to maintain the list structure. If there is a right parenthesis
following it, leave it in place.
If you have used Archive Manager (file roller) to extract the script
file, you can modify the script file without extracting the file.
Hopefully you have already made a copy of the database file and are
working with the copy rather than the original. Change the extension of the
copy from .odb to .zip. Use Nautilus to browse to the location of the .zip
file. Double click it to open file roller. Then double click the database
folder in the file roller window. Double click the script file to open it
in gedit. Remove the field and its field type and a comma if it follows
LONGVARBINARY. Save the file in gedit. When file roller pops up a window
about updating the scrip file, click the Update button. You have now
changed the database file. Rename the extension to .odb from .zip. Then
open this database file to see if it is working properly.

 Hi Bob and all.

I've been through the wringer on this and have still not got much of
anywhere. It seems some people have major problems with this and some
 just
don't seem to.

I used to
recommend this package for my students especially those on a limited
 income
and I probably still will for the very few tech savvy ones I get but for
most of them if you start talking to them about Javahome variables and
setting paths they're going to ask you what the living hell you're
blabbering about.

 Tom

I don't agree. That is a different file. There are tons of files named script.xlb in different

I have script.xlb in the ~/Library/Application Support/LibreOffice/3/user/basic/Standard folder

Try renaming your user profile in order to create a new one. As an experiment I did that and
there is a script.xlb in the ~/Library/Application Support/LibreOffice/3/user/basic/Standard

[libreoffice-users] 3.6 calc page preview problem

2012-08-27 Thread Paul Morgan
Hi,

I installed version 3.6.0.4 last week (OSX 10.6.8), and have a problem with
Page Preview and pdf export. I

1. open a calc file created with 3.5.6. this file has 4 sheets;
2. add a new sheet, then rename the sheet to something suitable;
3. edit one of the previously created sheets and the newly created sheet;
4. open Page Preview with the newly created sheet selected, and everything
is as expected;
5. open Page Preview with any of the previously created sheets selected,
and the preview is blank;
6. export to pdf (either with the Export Directly as PDF menu button or
FileExport as PDF command, and either way, the only sheet exported to pdf
format is the newly created sheet (no blank pages for the previously created
sheets).

Any help on how to fix this would be appreciated. Thank you,

Peul

Should I file a bug report or is the problem under treatment already?
By the way, performance of 3.6 is super, like a lightning...
I have followed the path all the way from StarOffice to LO. What a difference!
Another issue: PLEASE don't neglect Base. Any sizable and company and otherwise
serious organisation needs a database behind the scenes - not only

and the like.
Thanks and keep up the excellent work...

Do you have a print range defined on your new sheet? Once a print

you define print ranges (possibly encompassing entire sheets) on those sheets.

You did not mention whether you have a 32 or 64 bit version of LO
3.6.1-2.
I have a copy of a MySQL database that I tried (LO 3.6.1-2 64 bit
Debian). I created a view and then a report on the View. (This included
three tables in which it was a parent - child - grandchild relationship.) I
had no problems with the Report Builder.
I did find something that I may file a bug report about: I could not
create a view using 3.6.1-2; I had to use 3.4.6 instead.
(For what it is worth, using LO 3.4.6 to connect Base to MySQL is
much faster than using the embedded database from which the MySQL database
came. The native MySQL extension works well with 3.4.6 and 3.5.x as well.

@contrazz,

Should not need to re-install again, rather to clear things you'll need
to completely remove (or rename) your old user configuration.

Found here: C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\

Any extensions or customizations you have are likely not functional at
3.6, so deleting is probably simplest.

You are right that the sort of print range that merely repeats some

of other sheets, but print ranges that define which cells are to be
printed (or exported) do.

RE: [libreoffice-users] Libreoffice and Java

2012-08-27 Thread V Stuart Foote
Folks should understand that the Java Accessibility Bridge foundation
for LibreOffice Assistive Technology and Accessibility Tools is one of
the primary components entirely dependent on a functional JRE? Java is
going to be with us in LibreOffice long after JRE 1.6 has been dropped
from Oracle support. Dealing with JRE 1.7 configuration is necessary now
and in the future.

So, JRE 1.6u34 is the latest release of that branch and JRE 1.7u06 is
the latest of that branch. But, both are completely functional with
LibreOffice when properly configured, and both support Java
Accessibility Bridge and Assistive Technology and the Accessibility
Tools in LibreOffice.

The problem is when they are not configured correctly. Java Access
Bridge, LibreOffice AT, and LibreOffice in general require use of a
32-bit JRE to work seamlessly.

Users on 64-bit Windows are tripped up by the Oracle JRE installers (or
Ninite installer packaging) that generically install the 64-bit JRE. It
is the generic Windows centric installation--of executables copied into
the C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folders that causes most
problems for LibreOffice Java Access Bridge dependent users of LO
Accessibility Tools. Simply put, the wrong version of the JRE gets
called.

To avoid that for JRE, JAB and LibreOffice AT users, forcing a proper
configuration requires removal of the generic executables and inclusion
of the JRE into system PATH variable. Convention says use a JAVA_HOME
variable, but the full path to the JRE bin directory is just as
effective, e.g. append ;C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin to the
PATH variable.

Sounds simplistic, but if you start with a solid 32-bit JRE install, the
JAB will go on cleanly (use the JWin tool). Follow that with NVDA or
commercial screen reader, and then a LibreOffice 3.6.1 installation.
Which now offers Accessibility support during installation and startup.

Additionally, for users that had a JRE 1.6 installation and had problems
following a JRE 1.7 upgrade. Doing an upgrade to JRE 1.7 does not
clear the JRE 1.6 configuration that LibreOffice had been using--and
suspect there are JAB and other assistive technologies that will also
have broken configurations. The most reliable way is to remove it all
and start from the JRE installation.

But for certain, with LibreOffice the configuration has to be manually
cleared--and allowed to rebuild with correct JRE 1.7 details. A JRE 1.6
installation would be just as trouble prone if it were not configured
correctly.

Subject: RE: [libreoffice-users] Libreoffice and Java

It seems to work fine if you take JRE 1.7 off the machine and install
JRE 1.6...

Once they take Java out of the equation, it'll be fixed. Until they do,
however, take 1.7 off and Install 1.6. That seems to fix the problem.

YMMV,

Bob

Do you have a print range defined on your new sheet? Once a print
range is defined anywhere, only material within print ranges is
printed (or exported to PDF). So no other sheet will print unless
you define print ranges (possibly encompassing entire sheets) on those
sheets.

I do not have a print range on the newly created sheet, though there
are print ranges in the sheets created in a previous version. In my
experience with previous versions, if there were a print range on
one sheet (example: print top two rows on all pages) it did not
inhibit the preview/print/export to pdf of the other sheets.

You are right that the sort of print range that merely repeats some
rows or columns of a sheet on every page does not suppress printing
of other sheets, but print ranges that define which cells are to be
 printed (or exported) do.

Thank you,

Anyone with any idea how to solve this problem?
