[libreoffice-users] Remove Properties and Personal Information

2014-04-27 Thread Joe B
Hello list,

I am having difficulty getting the "Remove Properties and Personal
Information" link to work on the Properties>Details tab for a specific file
that I would like to remove all personal information from

When I click this link, I get a pop up box that that has two radio
buttons. One radio button is: "Create a copy with all possible properties
removed". I selected that one and clicked OK.

Then another box pops up that says "You need permission to perform this
action. You require permission from Joe-PC\Joe to make changes to this
file."

I click "Try again" and eventually it fails and says:

"Not all personal properties were cleared. Windows was unable to remove
properties from the new copies of the selected files. Before sharing these
files, you should review them for unwanted personal information."

I realize this is much more a Windows 7 problem than a LibreOffice problem,
but so was my last question :)

What I've tried so far:
1.Properties>Security tab>Edit.
In the box for "Group or user names", I select Joe(Joe-PC\Joe). In the box
below, "Permissions for Joe", all items are checked as "Allow", except for
"Special permissions".

I click the "Edit" button.

A new window pops up with just the Security tab showing. The top box shows
"Group or user names". I select Joe(Joe-PC\Joe).

The bottom box below says "Permissions for Joe". All of the permissions
have a check box in the "Allow" column. Additionally, all of the allow
check boxes are grayed out. Only the Deny checkboxes are check-able. The
"Special Permissions" box is the only box that does not have a check in
either Allow or Deny. Both of the Special Permissions boxes are grayed out.

So my question boils down to, How do I get the "Special Permissions" box in
the Security tab to be check-able?

2. Properties>Security tab>Advanced.
In the Security tab, there is text at the bottom that says "For special
permissions or advanced settings, click Advanced." I click the Advanced
button.

A new windows pups up "Advanced Security Settings for File foo.bar". On
the Permissions tab, there is a box for "Permission entries". There are 3
entries: SYSTEM, Administrators(Joe-PC\Administrators), Joe(Joe-PC\Joe).
The Permission for all three is "Full Control".

It would seem to me that if I have Full Control permission, then the
Special Permission check box should be check-able (not grayed out), but
it's not check-able, and it is grayed out. What am I missing?

Thank you so much for your help

Joe

Paul,

One problem is that not all mail clients explicitly support your
option d (Reply to mailing list). Option c (Reply to sender) is not
even explicitly supported by some mail clients. Pegasus Mail (which I
am using for this response) has only a single Reply button but using
it opens a Reply Options menu from which one can select any of about
six different header categories from which the addressee can be
selected. Of course the To: field can be manually edited later as
well. Mulberry Mail, which I use sometimes on both Linux and Windows,
has a similar technique for selecting the addressee(s) for replies
(and only a single button). DroidMail on my Android phone has two
"buttons" -- Reply and Reply All.

This topic has become the basis for flame wars on this list so I
generally try to avoid the subject here. However, I will once again
explain my own way of thinking about the subject.

Mailing lists are a way to share comments with a group of people who
share an interest in a particular topic. As such private replies
_should_ be the exception rather than the rule. As a result, IMO
Reply should route the message to the mailing list by default.
Starting with this post, any message that I send to this mailing list
via any of the three mail clients that I use will carry this header:

Reply-To: "LibreOffice Users List" I know this list reply issue has cropped up several times now, but just

It's true that some lists - perhaps most - are for discussion, but
not all. The web site advertises this list thus: "The user support
mailing list address is our main channel for LibreOffice users
needing help with a problem". Users with problems do not necessarily
want to engage in a discussion: they just want help. Nor do list
members want to discuss, perhaps for the umpteenth time, such
questions as why LibreOffice is not a clone of Microsoft Office.

Starting with this post, any message that I send to this mailing
list via any of the three mail clients that I use will carry this header:

Reply-To: "LibreOffice Users List" This will tell the mail clients from which replies are sent that
this is the preferred address to which a reply should be sent. This
is my way of getting around what I consider to be a wrong headed
configuration of this mailing list.

Interestingly, the fact that you can do this defeats your point! The
Reply-To: header, in the words of RFC 2822, "indicates the
mailbox(es) to which the *author* of the message suggests that
replies be sent" (my emphasis). The author of a message, of course,
is you - not the list. The header is provided to give *you* this
control - and by not interfering, this list preserves this facility
for you as it should.

I ... will NOT participate in a flame war.

No incendiaries here!

[libreoffice-users] test messages -- please disregard

2014-04-27 Thread James E. Lang
I am simply testing a feature of Pegasus Mail as it pertains to the
configuration of this list.

I will reply to this message from two different e-mail clients and
that will be the end of the test.

Please excuse me for cluttering the list with this message.

Another copuple of things to increase available space on drive C are:

   - Change the virtual memory location, if it's still on drive C move to D
   - A more complex one is to increase size of partition C

Do you have used already methods to get more free place on drive C?
Empty trash.
Empty all temp or tmp folders.
Empty the cache of your broswer and/or move the location for the cache
of you browser to drive D.

You can try this:
(1)
Uninstall the old version before you install the new one. Then there
might be enough place on C, because the new version isn't significant
larger then the old one.

(2)
1. Unpack to a folder on D. The installer has a button to choose the
destination.

2. Use the custom installation. There you can set the destination folder.

If it still does not work, then the default temp folder can not grow
large enough. You can try to set a new location for the temp folder in
the Windows XP settings.

(3)
Or a different way. Do not install using the installer, but make an
administative installation. You will get a full usable LO, but no system
integration. Therefore double click a file to open it in LO will not
work out-of-the-box. You can put a link to soffice.exe on your desktop
to get a quick access, or you assign the file name extension to
soffice.exe later on explicitly by using "open with...".

Kind regards

Re: [libreoffice-users] List-reply issues... again

2014-04-27 Thread Paul
I know this list reply issue has cropped up several times now, but just
to add something I haven't seen mentioned:

I'm using Claws Mail 3.7.6 on Windows 7 64bit. When replying to
messages from this list, there are normally four options:

a) Reply
b) Reply to all
c) Reply to sender
d) Reply to mailing list

I normally use the default reply (option a), and like with this
message, it normally goes to the list.

But a while back I noticed that for someone I was replying to, the
reply button addressed the reply to the person, and not the list. I
can't remember who (or even when exactly) this was, but it was not the
normal behavior. In that case I picked it up before sending the
message, and just manually corrected the issue, I think. I'm can't
remember if I tried the "Reply to mailing list" option, or what it did
if I did.

So it seems that sometimes things work one way and sometimes the
other...

[libreoffice-users] table: clipping of numbers

2014-04-27 Thread william drescher
Medicare, in its infinite wisdom (NOT) released a new (and
required) Health Insurance Claim Form.

I have a table that I use as a template to fill in the forms
(using openTBS it fills in automagically).

The problem is that when they revised the section for diagnoses,
they put the lines to close to together (vertically) that when I
make the rows fit, the (required) 12 pitch numbers are clipped on
the bottom. If I make the row height big enough (.021") to not
clip, the rows do not line up.

Back in the days of WordPerfect, I would use "advance to" and
then could slightly overlap the fields.

Anyone have any suggestions of how to approach this?

(form requires 12 pitch (pica) letters)

bill

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: How to insert a field of a random integer in the range 5 to 20?

In Word (2013) it is possible to insert two nested fields with the
following definition:

{ = ROUND({ TIME\@\"ss" \* MERGEFORMAT }/4+5;0) }

The 'inner' field results in the seconds of the current time, this
is divided by 4, resulting in a number between 0 and 15, and finally
5 is added. I was unable to reproduce this in LibreOffice... ;(

Is anyone be able to do this?

Here's a start:
o In the first cell of a table, go to Insert | Fields > | Other... | Document.
o Under Type select Time.
o Under Select, select Time. (Note that "Time" in the earlier Fields
menu is actually "Time (fixed) and not what you want.)

o Click Insert. (I don't think it matters what Format you select.)
o Put the cursor into another cell and press F2.
o Complete the formula in the Input Line: =((*10-*10
round 0+0.5) round 2)*100 and click the green arrow.

I think that gives you an unpredictable two-digit number, but you'd
better check the maths. The remainder of the calculation is left as
an exercise for the reader!

I trust this helps.

In Thunderbird, always use Reply-To-List, not just 'Reply'...

Or, if you use the buttons in the Message Header, modify it to use the
'Smart Reply' button, so it will automatically detect lists and change
to 'Reply-To-List' automatically.

This is a PEBKAC problem, nothing more...

[libreoffice-users] spadmin GUI will be removed

2014-04-27 Thread Walther Koehler
High folks,

just read that the spadmin printer administration tool is to be removed in
future releases of LO. I rely on that tool, especially because GNU/Debian
cups has only this awful slow and unpractical browser interface and since KDE
removed the kcmshcell printers facility.

In a small office network one has to have a handy GUI tool for the users.

"Automatic" won't help you: this adjusts the table to fill the space
between the margins, so any change of column width has to be accompanied
by a compensating one to achieve this. Any other option here should
suffice.

rightclick > table... >tab columns inserting values in the column
width spaces but writer also don't honour this because I suspect it
maintain the global length of table
I also selected "adjust column proportionally" but nothing change, and
also selecting "adjust column proportionally" "adapt table width" is
automatically selected
I insert values in column width but writer doesn't obey to this
because change the other

It sounds as if you have tried everything except the precise option you
need - which appears to be having "Adapt table width" ticked but "Adjust

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: CONVERTING A MICROSOFT TEMPLATE TO BE USED WITH LIBRE OFFICE

2014-04-27 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
+1
It would be great if this mailing list could be a "family friendly" place.
It is not always easy to come up with dignified responses that deals with
FUD in a witty and humorous way but doing so might make this list a more
friendly place to be. Please can we just try to "rise above it" instead of
letting anger control us? I will try to be better myself too.
Regards from
Tom :)

[libreoffice-users] Re: CONVERTING A MICROSOFT TEMPLATE TO BE USED WITH LIBRE OFFICE

2014-04-27 Thread Urmas

"Toki":

What you are missing is that there are file layout differences between

the various editions of the same version of MSO.

All those differences are hierarchic. You can read all the files of earlier
version and have a way to ignore unsupported elements from the higher
version.

Insulting other mailing list subscribers is absolutely unacceptable, not
only because it is against the Netiquette but also because it is against
the principles of our community.

If you do not share these principles (and your messages show that you do
not share them) you should be wise enough to leave the mailing list and
the community on you own.
