For what it's worth, I had downloaded the "fresh" branch a few weeks
ago. I think it was version 5.0.3 (or 4). I experienced daily crashes
with it. I got so frustrated that I completely uninstalled it and went
back to the trusty "still" version. My current plan is to not go near
version 5 until I find that version 4 fails to complete my work.

I would recommend that the download cite default to the "still" branch.
If I had been a complete noob and had this experience with the default
"fresh" branch, I'd be looking for a different solution altogether.

I agree with Tom that soon the current 5.0.x line will be turned into
the "still" version line. I am running both 4.x.x and 5.0.x between my
different dual booting Win10 partitions and my Ubuntu 14.xx/15.xx

I have not experienced any crashing, except for some very large and
complex files. Maybe I do not use my LO version[s] as much as you do,
but I am not getting your type of crashing.

So it could be something in your system that may not like LO, or it may
just be that there is a corruption in the config files. If I remember

Yes, I still recommend 4.x to people, but since that like is coming to

[libreoffice-users] BaseForms: transferring contents of data fields to the database table

2016-01-04 Thread Egbert Eissing
I have a main form and a sub form.
The main form holds one single record, the sub form contains multiple records
related to the record in the main form.
Both forms are holding alphanumeric and also pure numeric data.
I wrote a macro to evaluate and calculate the numeric data in the sub form and
deposit the results in fields of the main form.

Now my problem: The numbers placed in the main form fields by means of the
macro are not recognized by the back end MySQL database. These simply are not
transferred, whatever I do. (If I write some figures in manually, the same are
being transferred without problem.) What can I do to work around this problem?
Is there any kind of trick that makes the form believe that the automatically
generated data have been put in by hand and treated accordingly? I am sure
there must be a solution to this.
Thanks for any help.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: LibreOffice Download

2016-01-04 Thread Virgil Arrington

Tim,

I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with the Unity DE. I honestly don't recall
the actual things I was doing when it crashed, other than I was using
Writer (which I use 95% of the time). If I recall, it happened a lot
when I had multiple files open, and it nearly always happened when I
tried to open an ".odt" file directly from "Files," the Ubuntu file
manager, rather than going through the LO "Open File" dialogs.

Before uninstalling, I did some online searching and found many others
who were experiencing frequent crashing with 5.0.x. I just figured it
wasn't yet ready for prime time.

As for config files, when I installed 5.0.x, it recognized my custom
settings and templates from 4.4.x, so it must have imported at least
some of them.

At any rate, I'm generally happy with 4.4.7.2.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Help with the CALC CURRENT() function

2016-01-04 Thread Brian Barker

At 15:36 03/01/2016 -0500, Rémy Gauthier wrote:
I am using CALC in LO 5.0.3.2 on a Fedora 23
(formally 22) system. The version of LO I use is
a version I downloaded from the LO site, not the
version that installs with Fedora. I had to
implement something in CALC that looked more or less like this:

F(X) = (X+5)*6 + (((25+(X+5)*6-6) MOD 14)

If X is equal to 25, the result is 183. If I
place this formula in a cell (where cell A2
contains 25): =(A2+5)*6+MOD(25+(A2+5)*6-6;14),
CALC indeed provides 183 as the answer. However,
the following thing happens when I try to use
the CURRENT() function in that calculation:

=(A2+5)*6+MOD(25+CURRENT()-6;14): The result provided is 182
=(A2+5)*6+MOD(25-6+CURRENT();14): The result provided is 190
=(A2+5)*6+MOD(CURRENT()+25-6;14): The result provided is 183
=(A2+5)*6+MOD(-6+CURRENT()+25;14): The result provided is 193

It is my understanding that the CURRENT()
function returns the current value of the
formula being calculated. In the examples above,
because the call to CURRENT() is inside the
MOD(), the value of the formula at that point
should be the same (180=(25+5)*6 in my example)
regardless of where CURRENT() is placed since
the MOD cannot be calculated before the two
arguments are evaluated. Is there something I am missing?

I suspect this is "by design". The problem, I
think, is that there is no unique meaning to "the
current value of the formula being calculated" in
any but the simplest of cases. If your formula is
evaluated from left to right, the first part will
indeed have been determined as 180. But then this
result will have been held in suspension whilst
the value of the MOD() function reference - and
in particular of its first argument - is
calculated. In your first example, for instance,
when CURRENT() is encountered, there will be two
current values, neither of which can be described
as the value of the formula, namely the 180 and
now 25 as part of the new calculation. CURRENT()
clearly uses this new value - the value of the
sub-expression currently being evaluated - and not the value in suspension.

In the third example, there is no value yet for
the new sub-expression, and CURRENT() defaults to
the existing value of 180. I think you like this,
but I'm not sure it's helpful. You might be amused by examining the effect of

=MOD(CURRENT()+25-6;14)
or just
=CURRENT()

I suspect you need either not to worry about the
extra calculation done if you repeat (A2+5)*6
explicitly within your formula or else to
calculate it separately in a cell and then use a
reference to that cell twice in your formula.
Remember that the necessary cell can be in a
hidden column or row or outside the print range
or on another sheet, as preferred. CURRENT() is meant for other purposes.

I trust this helps.
