Open the jpeg in Google Photos and use its OCR capabilities to produce a
text file which you can then edit in Writer.

LO Writer cannot open image files for editing nor pdf files. That's why the LO
suite opens them in the Draw application.

To Start With a Defined Page Number

Now you want some more control on page numbers. You are writing a text document

1.

Click into the first paragraph of your document.

2.

Choose Format - Paragraph - Text flow.

3.

In the Breaks area, enable Insert. Enable With Page Style just to be able
to set the new Page number. Click OK.

The new page number is an attribute of the first paragraph of the page.

Oh, I didn't think of that… If adding fonts to the user's font directory,
those fonts will be visible for all application for that user, BUT I guess
one way to solve the problem could be to create a new user for working with
LibreOffice only and put all those specific fonts in that user's font
directory. Then you only have to switch user every time you want to use
LibreOffice or when you are finished using it.

That's probably not possible (unless you edit the source code of
LibreOffice and compile and install it manually).
The only way I could find is if you use LibreOffice Portable.
Well, another way would of course be if you install an operating system in
a virtual machine and then install LibreOffice and the fonts there. Then
you'll only have those fonts in that virtual machine.

I have a question to use LibreOffice in Spring framework

Currently, I used the example source of LibreOffice make to create:

Insert title here

When I run that HTML,

I use Spring Framework and run example2.html

I called so_activex and got the same result as above.

Sorry for the long introduction. In conclusion I want to bind client-side
data (HTML, JavaScript) to LibreOffice fields

For example, the field name bubCd has been replaced with the value i set in
the HTML file.
( var bubCd = "testcode" ---in Writer file---> CODE : testcode  )

Could i possible?

If yes, How I can start with? where is API guide document for this?

I tried to find out API guide document for this, but i can not found it

Or if you need a commercial approach to technical support, please tell us.

I look forward to hearing from you

Dear Sir/Madam,
I have added the 'Sanskrit2003' fonts in the hidden language list.
I am using KDE of Linux. Please let me know how to proceed further
to type in Sanskrit using Libre writer.
Thank you,
L. R. Rao.

Hello,

You have to enable indian languages in the set of available languages
for your keyboard in KDE

I have no KDE available at the moment, so I paste here the old
instructions for KDE 4.2.2 (change where needed - you need to copy
sanskrit2003 fonts in your fonts folder):

Click on the KDE menu start button -> Computer -> System Settings ->
Language and Country.

Select "Keyboard Mapping".
In the «layout» tab, check «Enable keyboard layouts».
From the list of available mappings, select India and add it to the
active mappings by clicking on the green arrow.

Click Apply and then close the dialog.
The keyboard layout indicator will then appear on the KDE panel, where
you can click to select the desired language.
After choosing the layout for the Indian keyboard, you can then use the
font sanskrit2003, selecting it, in your favorite applications, from the
respective character menu.

Maybe also this thread can help you.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I have added the 'Sanskrit2003' fonts in the hidden language list.
I am using KDE of Linux. Please let me know how to proceed further
to type in Sanskrit using Libre writer.
Thank you,

From my experience Ubuntu Mate is really UNSTABLE (sadly!). That's why I
use to install Linux Mint MATE to my customers.

To install LibreOffice's official PPA follow this link, please.

Just below: "Utilizzare versioni più recenti"

Cheers.

There are some memory consumption bugs with LO but it might take some

I have 32GB and it is usually a few weeks before I start noticing.

There is this older thread similar.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Fwd: + session of Calc: everything scares frightfully.

2017-07-10 Thread Bruce Hohl
Just a few general comments:

LibreOffice is a relative large desktop application so if you have a low
resource computer (old or very low cost) performance will be slower with
more open worksheets.

Performance is affected by the "size" of each worksheet. "Size" somewhat
difficult to measure but more cells used, more formulas used and more
formatting used affect performance.

I have a few large worksheets for which I uncheck "Menu > Data >
AutoCalculate". I must then press F9 to update the formulas.

Several times on this mailing list people have reported slow performance
related to cell formatting. Some worksheets converted from Excel include
formatting "baggage" which can slow performance. Sometimes I rebuild these
worksheets in LibreOffice to leave this "baggage" behind.

Hello,

I am building a spreadsheet which performs numerous calculations related to
solar energy performance and financial modeling. I need the calculations
and resulting charts to be compiled into a presentable format which can be
emailed as a PDF.

Currently, I cannot seem to copy and paste a chart or graph from Calc into
Writer using DDE. The idea is to create multiple proposals using the Calc
spreadsheet and then individually save and email the essential information
in PDF format.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

2016-08-30 Thread Paul D. Mirowsky

I am going to do something I really hate doing.

Have you seen RETScreen...

*RETScreen 4* is an Excel-based clean energy project analysis software
tool that helps decision makers quickly and inexpensively determine
the technical and financial viability of potential renewable energy,
energy efficiency and cogeneration projects.

*RETScreen Plus* is a Windows-based energy management software tool
that allows project owners to easily verify the ongoing energy
performance of their facilities.

http://www.nrcan.gc.ca/energy/software-tools/7465

The Excel/Windows part bugs the heck out of me and I have not used it,
but the people behind it are pretty serious.

It would be wonderful if there was a way to do this in LibreOffice Calc
instead.

Hope it helps.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Fwd: Looking for expert help

2016-08-29 Thread Bruce Hohl
I totally agree with Joe's comment. LO including Calc has an excellent PDF
export feature with many options (review the various tabs at File > Export
to PDF). Also, print ranges can be set by Tab/Sheet, cells set as
non-printable and Headers & Footers can be used to identify content, page
numbering, etc. In fact, I use this capability routinely to prepare
professional quality PDF versions of financial reports. It's much easier
for "top managers" to page through a PDF versus the "complex" navigation
required by a spreadsheet.

... and if your get carried away you can help toki with his "Abusing Calc"
users guide. He plans 2 chapters on using Calc as a text editor :)

Hi Good Folks,

I Googled this but amongst the posts which included suggestions for
Open Office and Ubuntu Libre Writer I did not see how you can do a
Title Case in Windows Libre Writer

Title case is this - Refinanced Loans On Three Separate Properties.

Under Change Case there is Toggle (just capitalizes), All caps. small
case but no Title case listed.

Thanks so much,

Charles.

2016-02-06 Thread Graham Luffrum
With LibreOffice 5.1.0.3 under Linux Mint 17.2 I also get the blinking,
which is not surprising as the text is set to blink, i.e. under 'Character'
-> 'Font effects' the box "Blinking" is set. For some reason I could not
select the whole text on these pages, but only individual lines. On doing
so and unsetting "Blinking" the blinking stops.

It's possible that this is not a software bug and has nothing to do
with LibreOffice. Are you perhaps using a system - probably a
notebook - with a touch-sensitive trackpad? if so, it is quite
possible that you are touching the trackpad with part of your hand -
perhaps your thumb - or dragging it over the trackpad whilst you are
typing. These actions will respectively move the cursor position or
select a region of text, producing exactly the effects you describe.
The fact that it occurs with different software versions provides
extra evidence for this diagnosis. You notice it in LibreOffice
because that is the application you mostly use.

You will probably find it difficult to believe that you are doing
this, but I can assure you that I have watched people doing exactly
this! Since you are concentrating on typing, you will not be aware of
exactly what your thumb is doing. Get someone to watch you typing in
order to be convinced. If this is your problem, you will find that
you can adjust the sensitivity of the trackpad; this setting will be
in your operating system (in Control Panel? under Mouse?), not in
LibreOffice. If you reduce the sensitivity sufficiently, you should
find this problem goes away.

I trust this helps.

Also look out for keyboard keys that stick.

Detach keyboard and carefully vacuum with 'dusting brush' attachment,
trying to find a 'key' in a half full vacuum cleaner bag is not fun.

*How to Turn a Landscape Table by 90 Degrees into a Portrait Table*

*LibreOffice 4.4.3.2*

*Windows 8.1*

*Since 2008, I have been looking for simple ways to turn a table on a
landscape page by 90 degrees into that on a portrait age.*

*Once I found one, in OpenOffice.org Writer 3.0.1, but the table could only
be turned right-to-left vertical. What I wanted was to turn it
left-to-right vertical.*

*That means, the table on the landscape page should be turned in order that
the top of the table should be on the left margin on the portrait page, not
on the right margin of the portrait page.*

*Now that I no longer use OpenOffice, org and only use LibreOffice, I do not
know whether OpenOffice.org Writer has this feature. *

*The answer for this question should be in LibreOffice Writer.*

SELECT_WORD or REGISTER_DOC ?

which is current method, SELECT or REGISTER ?
Is it OK to just delete the old method, or is there a better way to keep

For REGISTER is this for both doc/xls/ppt and docx/xlsx/pptx ?

SELECT_WORD - use LibreOffice as the default application for Microsoft Word

SELECT_EXCEL - use LibreOffice as the default application for Microsoft Excel
file formats
SELECT_POWERPOINT - use LibreOffice as the default application for Microsoft

REGISTER_PPT (default=0) - use LibreOffice as the default application for

Is single MSI history needed ?

Do we need to keep the history at the top about LibreOffice being a
single MSI since 3.5?

Are UI language selection using TRANSFORMS (e.g. TRANSFORMS=:1084) and

UI_LANGS from 3.5.5 onwards, perhaps they are for different things?

[libreoffice-users] Fwd: HIGHLIGHTING IN WRITER

I'm using 4.4.22.

The highlighting function is almost totally unreliable.

Whether I use the F8 key or just try to use the mouse button, it takes two
or three passes to get highlighting of more than several letters to hold
long enough to cut or copy.

This is a real pain if you write longer documents on which you to do a lot
of editing.

Am I the only one having this problem?

[libreoffice-users] Fwd: shortcut pdf does not respect settings

2015-04-03 Thread Guy Voets
Hello there,

The version I use at present is LO 4.4.1.2, with a Dutch interface, om Mac.
When I use the PDF shortcut in the Standard toolbar (between Save and Print
icons), the text in the resulting pdf file isn't justified, while it is
justified in the original odt.
From the top left menu File Export as PDF produces the same error.
I need to make the detour of the Print dialog PDF Save as PDF to get it
right.

I suppose this is a -new- bug, because in my previous version of LO
(Feb'15) the pdf text was justified just as its odt original.

Hi :)
Yeh, that has gotta be new - or at least more recent than 4.1.x branch.
I'm fairly sure i'd have noticed it if it happened in versions i use and i
do use
File - Export to Pdf
quite a bit.

Hi Guy,

It might be a Mac and/or a Version 4.4.1.2 issue only, because I cannot
reproduce with 6 different documents (ODT, DOC DOCX) on Linux
Windows with Version: 4.4.2.2 from both the toolbar or the menu.

Is it possible for you to update to 4.4.2 ?

Hi Franz,

Thank you for contacting the Tutorials For OpenOffice project, but please

2014-04-22 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Does anyone know how to get into the code and be able to modify it for a
local organisation? Should this question go to the devs mailing-list now?

I think all the side-issues have now been resolved but the main part of the
question still remains.

Btw i hope everyone had a good easter, or at least a good holiday!

Part of the question is how to get hold of that code.

I guess it might make sense to get one button set-up that way, get to the
code for it and modify that code. Then the question would be how to roll
 it out across many machines.

Is it possible to write a button as an Extension? Could an Extension be
rolled out across multiple machines without requiring user intervention?
Would this be better done through the xcu(?) registry thing in Windows?

Re: [libreoffice-users] Fwd: ADD NEW MENU BUTTON IN CALC MENUBAR

2014-04-16 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Someone kindly pointed out that code can be rolled out to multiple machines
using a patch file. I don't know how to do that but the o.p. does.

So now the main question is how to get the source code of a button.

Side issue is knowing if it's possible to write a button as an Extension or
as a macro or can a macro be an Extension? I guess this is something for
the devs rather than this list? I know this is all beyond me!

Apols, regards and happy easter from
Tom :)

[libreoffice-users] Fwd: [tdf-announce] LibreOffice 4.2

2014-01-30 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
We have had a few threads lately about improving interoperability with
a certain format.

Sadly that format, or at least the various different implementations
of it, seems to show that it's designed to decrease interoperability
between systems as part of a marketing strategy (or something). if
their format doesn't work in other systems then your only real choice
is to buy from them and do so in the full knowledge that you will soon
have to buy from them again (and in the knowledge that documents
created now might not be viewable in a few years).

However it seems the new 4.2.0 HAS put a LOT of work into increasing
interoperability with the newer implementations of the format and have
managed to do so without losing interoperability with MS's older
implementations of that format.

So, once again, it might be the LibreOffice users who are the only
people in their companies who are able to read almost all documents
from almost anyone while MS Office users might be having problems
reading stuff from other versions of MS Office.

Luckily the interoperability issue is apparently a lng way off
from consuming ALL our resources and the new 4.2.0 seems to have
substantial advantages over previous branches.

The cutest one (imo) is now being able to use iThings (phones and pads
etc) as a remote-control device for Impress Presentations. It seems
really recent that the functionality was written for Androids. It
feels like porting from Android to iOS is easier than the other way
around or maybe it's something else that our devs are doing right and
that other companies struggle with.

The more substantial changes, to accessibility, to Calc, and to the
Windows port of LO are all fantastic but so huge that it's easier to
focus on the cute chunks.

Many congrats to the Devs and to QA and everyone else involved!!
Many thanks and regards from
Tom :)

LibreOffice 4.2 features a large number of performance and
interoperability improvements targeted to users of all kinds, but
particularly appealing for power and enterprise users. In addition, it
is better integrated with Microsoft Windows.

Calc has gone through the largest code refactoring ever, giving major
performance wins for big data (especially when calculating cell values,
and importing large and complex XLSX spreadsheets), while an optional
new formula interpreter enables massively parallel calculation of
formula cells using the GPU via OpenCL. The latter works best with a
Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA) such as the new AMD Kaveri APU.
Round-trip interoperability with Microsoft OOXML, particularly for DOCX,
as well as legacy RTF, has also improved considerably. Also, new import
filters for Abiword documents and Apple Keynote presentations have been
added.

LibreOffice 4.2 offers two Windows specific improvements for business
users: a simplified custom install dialog to avoid potential mistakes,
and the ability to centrally manage and lock-down the configuration with
Group Policy Objects via Active Directory. All users benefit from better
integration with Windows 7 and 8, with thumbnails of open documents now
grouped by application and a list of recent documents, both showing on
the task bar.

Power users on all platforms will like the flexibility of the Expert
Configuration window, which has been added to the Advanced Options tab.
This feature can be easily turned off, for large deployments and basic
users.

LibreOffice 4.2 offers a new Start screen, with a cleaner layout that
makes better use of the available space - even on small screens - and
shows a preview of the last documents.

On the mobile side, LibreOffice now supports an Impress Remote Control
for iOS - in addition to the already available Impress Remote Control
for Android - which allows visual management of presentation delivery on
the laptop using the screen of an iPhone or iPad. The app is currently
waiting for review from Apple, and will be announced as soon as it is
available on iTunes Store.

LibreOffice 4.2 is the first open source suite to ship a new Windows
(IAccessible2 based) accessibility feature developed by IBM. This is
considered experimental for this release, but will replace legacy Java
based accessibility in the next major release.

The LibreOffice User Interface continues to undergo significant cleanup
with 70% of our dialogs now refreshed and many distributed UI tweaks.
This release also includes a beautiful new flat icon theme - Sifr -
and an updated set

Dear members,

I hereby announce the final results of The Document Foundation's Board
of Directors elections 2013. With the challenging phase having ended
without any objection to the preliminary results, the following results
are now the final ones.

Elected as member are the candidates, in this order: Thorsten Behrens,
Eliane Domingos de Sousa, Michael Meeks, Fridrich Strba, Adam Fyne, Joel
Madero and Bjoern Michaelsen.
And as deputies: Andreas Mantke, Eike Rathke and Norbert Thiebaud.

I want to say thanks to _all_ those who ran for elections, also the
members that were not elected for the board this time, and
congratulations to those that were elected. By separate mail each one
elected, will be invited to accept the new role as Member (or Deputy) of
the Board of Directors.

As outlined in the initial announcement [1], the newly elected Board of
Directors will only be in charge from February 18, 2014 on. To help the
transition, the current Board of Directors will include them in the
decision making process.

On behalf of the Membership Committee,
Cor Nouws, Chairman

[libreoffice-users] Fwd: User interface confusion

2013-12-11 Thread Rafal Pawluczyk

Hi,

I just updated my LibreOffice installation to 4.1.3.2 version yesterday.
This is on Windows 7 Pro.

Now, I notice that Calc interface is partially in English (expected),
partially in Polish (not so). All menu items are in English, but some of
the buttons in dialogue boxes and overall user interface labels are in
Polish. I happen to know Polish, so not a huge issue, but nowhere did I
specify/ask for Polish interface...

Any ideas what to do?

I am attaching a couple of screenshots to illustrate my point.

Cheers,

Rafal

[libreoffice-users] Fwd: Conditional text based on form value?

2013-09-05 Thread Boris Kheyfets
Hello LibreOffice
users
,

I want to get conditional text with libreoffice: user is selecting
checkboxes, enters some text in the form, and then a document is formed.

One approach to this is to have conditional text in forms. I posted
minimal working example at OO.org forums:
http://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7t=63842
and also cross-posted it at libreoffice ask:
http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/21847/conditional-text-based-on-form-value/

It's not oh so very important, it just would be nice to be able to have
dynamic documents in paper oriented format.

Probably a better approach will be to use database, and generate report. I
haven't tried it yet.

I need A4 document (preferably odt) at the end.

With great respect,
Boris.

Hi :)
Personally i am glad to hear the the 2 communities do still work together from
time to time and that some people help in both projects.  It feels much better
that way rather than feeling like it's us against them when we are all really
aiming for much the same thing and that is Freedom OF Choice.

Both project offer slightly different things so it makes more sense to work
together.  Together we stand. Divided we .. err well in this case we still do
well but it's better with 2 of us than just 1.

Mr. Ek,

I recommend that you subscribe to the user's mailing list and ask there;
Jean forwarded your request to that list already. I am responding to the
list and using CC for you in case you are not already subscribed.

There are numerous materials available related to macro programming,
including the help pages. If you are not versed in LO macro programming,
examples may be useful to start, and there is a macro recorder.

A link to AndrewMacro.odt (below) includes numerous examples, as does
OOME (also available from my web site).

Ignoring my web site, check here

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Publications

Getting Started With Macros is very similar to chapter 1 in OOME (that
was the starting point for the chapter).
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/images/0/0c/GS4013-GettingStartedWithMacros.odt

Calc Macros
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/images/d/d7/CG4012-CalcMacros.odt

Calc as a Simple Database (has lots of macro stuff I think)
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/images/4/4a/CG4013-CalcAsASimpleDatabase.odt

Enough to get you started I hope?

[libreoffice-users] Fwd: Printing Labels From Google Address Book

2012-12-19 Thread Keith Bates

Hello,

Having just finished my annual Christmas card mail out and mastering the
arcane wizardry of producing labels from a database, I realised that my
address list is greatly out of date.

It occurred to me that rather than trying to maintain a separate
database which I use exactly once a year, it would be more useful to
import addresses from my Google contact list.

Is there any simple way of importing a selection of Google contacts into
Libre Office?

Thanks

Keith

2012-12-19 Thread Gabriele Ponzo
The first thing it comes to my mind is to export from Google in CSV
format, and then re-open it in Calc. From there You should be able to
easily convert it into a LO DB.

[libreoffice-users] [Fwd: Referring to an input list variable]

2012-12-19 Thread Michael Nachtigal
Hi, there, everyone! I'd appreciate anyone replying who can help me with
the following task. I will explain the task, what I've done, and what
I've learned. I'll also ask for confirmation of my understanding of a
few things.

I'm trying to create a form that does two (main) things: Lets the user
select one of two options, and depending on which option is selected,
certain sections of the form will appear or disappear (be hidden). I
originally tried to do this with proper form controls, but learned there
is no way to refer to form field values like variables, is this correct?

So, I resorted to using variables, and now I'm just trying to consult
the value of an input list variable, but cannot figure out how to do so.
Could anyone help me with this?

Moreover, in the sections to be displayed conditionally, if I wish to
include variables, those must be hidden sections or hidden paragraphs,
but not conditional text, right?

My LO version: 3.5.4.2

Many thanks in advance!
Mike

Re: [libreoffice-users] Fwd: BLOOMING CACTI

2012-06-13 Thread webmaster-Kracked_P_P

I still think you should upload the attachments to a file-sharing system
or your own domain FTP/sharing account.

That way TDF/LO does not have to have your file uploaded to a server
they are using/paying-for/etc..

I even have my dictionary extension on my domain and use the external
hosting option so LO does not need to use its disc space to store my
contributions to LO.

Now if you do not have any account on any online service where you can
store your files to share with people on the lists, then using Nabble
might be your only option. I have not used Nabble, and uploaded a file
there before, so I cannot tell you how easy it is to upload a file to
that system.

http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/ list
http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/nabble-mailing-list-interface/ as
the link to LO's Nabble starting page. You will need to register to the
system to post threads there.

Hi :)
Translating non-native formats doesn't always go 100% perfectly. If the presentation had been created in Impress (either OpenOffice or LibreOffice) then it would work better. If you tried the presentation in a different version of MS Office, say in 2010 if created in 2007 then you would run into similar problems.

Oddly if you tweak it in Impress and then save back in PowerPoint formats then it tends to work in whichever version of MS Office you are using. It's best to stick with the native Odp format instead of .ppt or .pptX as the Odp format is used by more programs (KOffice/Caligra, IBM Lotus, google-docs and on and on).

Errr attachments don't get through to the list but you could use the Nabble interface and upload things to Nabble so that we could all see them.

Tom :)

The attached presentation--which I received from a friend--seems to run
better--without any setup--with PowerPoint than with Presentation. Any idea why?

Because it makes sense? PowerPoint has its native format that it
uses. Unless licensed by MS, no one else uses PowerPoint's native
format. That means, PowerPoint will run the slide presentation better
than other programs. They have only limited ability to read PP's files.
Impress uses ODF (open document format) as its native format.
Similarly, MS has only developed limited ability to read this format.
Consequently, a slide show created using Impress and the ODF native
format runs better on Impress than it would on PowerPoint.
