Second impressions regarding page numbering bug

I reported earlier that the changing page number bug 72452 has been solved
with the Version: 4.3.0.0.alpha0+ (Build ID:
be4035d00f37c492494fa7860955b6d0868c7f77) that I installed.

Having used the new version quite a bit over the past few days I suspect,
however, that there may be more to this bug than meets the eye. Twice I have
encountered a situation where whatever page I am working on suddenly becomes
page number zero, with all subsequent pages renumbered. Unlike what
previously happened, though, when I close and re-open Writer, the correct
page numbers are restored (with version 4.2, the unwanted page number
changes remained and needed to be manually repaired).

Once I determined that the changes were transient, I stopped worrying, and
this is a definite improvement, but something is still going on that I
thought should be reported.

Another thing I've noticed with the 4.3 alpha is that when I open a
document, it doesn't return to where I left off, but always to the beginning
of the document. Is this because I still have the 4.2 version installed in
parallel, or is this some new bug/feature or whatever?

On the plus side, the Ctrl+F command now opens the find dialog with the
cursor properly placed inside the dialog - thanks for fixing that annoyance.

Frank

2014-01-07 Thread CVAlkan
Hi Regina:

I downloaded and installed what seems to be the 4.3 beta:
Version: 4.3.0.0.alpha0+ Build ID: be4035d00f37c492494fa7860955b6d0868c7f77

I loaded the document in question, and all the page numbers seem to be
handled correctly, so I suspect that the particular bug has been corrected.

My other impression is that 4.3 seems to be a bit snappier (e.g. while
scrolling), which is always good. The only negative I noticed (which
really isn't a big deal) is that returning from the Page Preview to Editing
mode is noticeably slower. Strange.

So - Thanks Much ...

Frank

2014-01-06 Thread CVAlkan
Hi Regina:

Thanks so much for responding. Bug 72452 is very definitely what I am
experiencing, but in reading through the thread I thought it said that the
fix was put into version 4.2 which I'm using.

However, I will hop out of here right now and see if there is a newer build
than what I'm using. I don't want to go back to an earlier version because
there was a bug there (sorry, I can't remember what it was) that affected me
and which I wanted to get rid of.

I'll post back here if I find a newer build and it works. (And I will use a
copy of the document as you so wisely suggest).

Guten Tag, und Danke !!

Hi Regina:

I forgot to mention that I had originally written a large portion of the
document in MS Word and imported it into Writer.

Given some of the comments in the Bug thread for Bug 72452, I thought that
might be important.

2014-01-06 Thread CVAlkan
Hi Again Regina:

The version I currently have installed is from
LibreOffice_4.2.0.1_Linux_x86-64_deb.tar.gz (19-Dec-2013 13:52). This shows
up in the help dialog as Version: 4.2.0.1 Build ID:
7bf567613a536ded11709b952950c9e8f7181a4a.

So if this version contains the fix I suspect it wasn't complete.

Assuming that the fix is just for the code, is it possible that some remnant
of the bug remains in the document (e.g. in style definitions or something)?
If so, is there any known way to purge these things?

Or is there a newer version of Writer/Office for x86-64 Linux somewhere. It
looked like the 4.2.1 version isn't due until February some time.

You can try a daily (toward 4.3) from
http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/
or follow Bjoern's announcement

I don't know, whether it is newer than yours.

Kind regards
