Re: Nokia 6230 as virtual smsc
Hi, 1. Get some trial with minicom to make sure your SuSE is connected to the phone 2. if it is really connected to /dev/ttyUSBn then of course you must edit your configuration to fit it. 3. Maybe you need to paste your configuration here Regards Willy - Original Message - From: Richard Asiimwe To: sangprabv Cc: users@kannel.org Sent: Tuesday, June 12, 2007 1:54 PM Subject: Re: Nokia 6230 as virtual smsc Hi Guys, Thanks for the responses. 1. ~#dmesg | tty returns nothing. However, the device file doesn't exist. 3. Nokia 6230 as virtual smsc
Hi, I'd like to configure a nokia 6230 as a virtual smsc. I'm using SuSE 10.0 and connecting using a USB DKU-2/3 cable. Everything seems to be ok except that whilst lsusb shows that a nokia 6230 is connected to say bus 2 device 2, i cannot figure out what device name suse 10 has assigned to the device. when i looked for /dev/ttyUSB* or /dev/ttyACM* no such device or file was found and indeed using any of them in the smsc configuration's device directive throws kannel into a panic. Does any one know how i can identify the correct device to use? Thanks, Richard. -- Richard Asiimwe. Yep, we had the same issue here. I ended up using Apache as the WAP 2 server and wrote a module for it to do the RADIUS piece. There might be some solution out there (open source) by now, though. Jon

Ok I see. But what do you mean by "next gen configurations" ? do such solutions already exist ? Because the problem here is that I can't obtain the MSISDN with Squid, that's why I need these "HTTP phones" to work with Kannel... and I assume I'm not the only one in this situation (?) There's different parts to the WAP specs regarding the versioning. Namely there's the transport type (WAP or HTTP) and then the language constructs (ie. WML only or WML and XHTML and so on). A WAP 2.0 phone *does* have the option of supporting both transport stacks, but I doubt any do. If it connects to and works with your HTTP proxy, then it's an HTTP stack. You're going to see less and less new phones supporting the WAP stack anyway, so you might as well get working on the next gen configurations (ie. how you want to route the traffic, etc.). Jon

Nokia 6230 and Kannel ?
Hi, I’m using Kannel and mbuni to provide access to WAP and MMS. It works fine for every phones I’ve tested except for the nokia 6230. If I want to access to the internet, I have to configure it to connect directly on the HTTP proxy (squid) instead of Kannel. I’ve configured Kannel to use this proxy though. Moreover, in the phone specs it’s written that it supports WAP 1.2.1 and 2.0, so I don’t understand why it doesn’t work with kannel. Any idea ? Thanks in advance. Regards, Nicolas.
