Hello All, In the recent past I had problems with skipping packages with broken dependencies : ffmpeg-libs , libavdevice : Dorian Rosse adviced to install with " rpmfind ffmpeg-libs and libavdevice". No result. Tom Horsley did advice "dnf swap ffmpeg-free ffmpeg --allowerasing". Result skip broken dependencies ffmpeg (new !) , ffmpeg-libs , libavdevice : So no result. I solved the problem with dnf update ffmpeg --allowerase and all problems where sollved. Now Tom has a new problem with VLC player. Well so have I : What is wrong with ffmpeg ? Dnf wants to update Live 555 to 2023.06.20-2.f38 , when doing so the vlc player cannot be launched anymore. So I found the following solution "dnf install vlc" : The result a downgrade on Live 555 and big surprice all (VLC) runs fine ! So do not update Live 555. Opera Mail & Browser after upgrading Fedora31 to Fedora32 . Ed Greshko.
Hi all , Hi Ed , I did some thinking and studying : A long time ago I found somewhere opera-stable-54.0.2952.71-1.fc29R.x86_64.rpm but I don't know and have fotgotten where . I can imagine that this old rpm (fc29) is outdated ,so the question is where can I find the newest version (opera-stable-68.0.3618.63-0 ((fc32R)) .x86_64.rpm if it exists and install it and then try to launch this newest application onder fc32 ? Purpose was and is the possibility to use opera mail wich long ago was under fedora to use and since the browser was separated opera mail is not running under fedora . In the versions fc28 , -fc29 , -fc-30 and -fc31 no problems runs fine . In the version fc32 it is gone . Scanning with HP4620 . Ed Greshko.
Hi Ed , When running scanimage -L only the laptopcamera is discovered as scanning device (Dell Inspiron 3741). So the scanning function is missing . Your explanation for the Bonjour software is clear : So I did following : I installed root-net-bonjour-6.14.04-1.fc29 , and root-6.16.10-3.fc29 ; both x86_64 . (Avahi etc.) Then I did run hp-get < ipnumber > (All In Officejet HP4620 on WLAN.) And praise the Lord ! Everyting functionates , running hp-check I get 2 warnings ( HP printer is not hplip installed and /.hplip/hplip.conf could not access file , no such file or directory ) and 1 error ( Cups packcage is missing or not running ). So the scan problem is solved , but I still can not follow the logic : Maybe out there is someone who can explain. I must thank all of you for help , Ed Greshko in particular for his patience . With the HP4620 on the network run scanimage -L the important thing is that this command uses Bonjour (which use mDNS, or Multicast Domain Name System) to discover devices on the network. If, and I tested this on my HP 8710, if Bonjour is disabled in the printer's web interface then it will not be detected as a scanner. This also answers my own question about how the URI is determined at least in one case If I have Bonjour enabled on my printer I get 2 devices. device `hpaio:/net/HP_OfficeJet_Pro_8710?hostname=hp' is a Hewlett-Packard HP_OfficeJet_Pro_8710 all-in-one device `hpaio:/net/hp_officejet_pro_8710?ip=192.168.1.166=false' is a Hewlett-Packard hp_officejet_pro_8710 all-in-one If I disable Bonjour I only get 1 device device `hpaio:/net/HP_OfficeJet_Pro_8710?hostname=hp' is a Hewlett-Packard HP_OfficeJet_Pro_8710 all-in-one I'm guessing that the single entry is as a result of installing the printer/fax/scanner under hplip. But I've not yet determined where that entry comes from. Hi Ed , I hope I do not annoying you and hope this is the last question : Inform me how I can able/disable Bomjour ? There are quite a few PDF readers available in the Fedora repositories (Okular, Evince, MuPDF, …) you can choose from. Very likely there's already one installed that came with your DE. Otherwise, pick the one that suits you best. Hi, I agree that choosing an OSS pdf viewer is the best. However is there a viewer that can handle animation? This is the only reason I sometimes use acroread. An example of what I am talking about is in this file (created by LaTeX): there is a file in there called stadoc.pdf which has the animation on Page 5, Movie 1. https://wol-prod-cdn.literatumonline.com/pb-assets/assets/20491573/Stat_AutClass_v4_rev-1508937938000.zip When I try to read it in evince or okular, in the first case, nothing happens with the animation. I solved the problem as follows : I did a relabel on the OS ( Fedora 26 ) and added in the command " dnf system-upgrade download --refresh --releasever=27 " the option --allowerase. In my case then the updrade to Fedora 27 runs fine. Update F26 to F27
Hi all, When trying to update from f26 to f27 , using dnf system-upgrade etc, , I get a message 2 problems with grub 2 efi needs grub-tools but none of the providers can be installed. Next problem : grub2-tools needs librpm.so.7 but none of theetc. Next question : Is it possible to upgrade Fedora 26 to Fedora 27 , Fedora 26.i686 to Fedora 27.X86_64 on a 64 Bits machine ? ( Fc26 is installed in a 32 Bits version on a 64 Bits machine (Inspiron 3710 Dell). Following problem and question : The more I upgrade (F26) to the most recent version , the more system messages I get concerning ACPI problems , Discriptor problems etc., I think it is wise to install Fc27 and wait to see if this ( system messages) is still the case. Be so kind to inform and help me.
