Hi Derek I last reviewed the state of art with Archiva in October last year. Are you able to deploy to your local internal repository as well? Hi Michael Yes. With Maven 2 this can be done via the webdav URL by installing the webdav wagon extension in Maven. For Maven 1 (which has no WebDav support) I simply opened up the repo as a file share and deploy that way. For Maven 2 where is the WEBDAV support. Is this a plug-in for Tomcat that needs to be downloaded and installed separately? Do you run Archiva with just command line with Jetty? What are your experiences of running inside Tomcat, if you have tried that? I run Archiva in Tomcat. Setup was straightforward using the instructions in the getting started guide. Ditto I got Archiva with Tomcat to work on a Unix box here, however the application I think was challenged by the corporate firewall policy here. ==== -- Peter Pilgrim UBS Investment Bank, Client Portal Dev LDN, Triton Court, 14 Finsbury Square, London, EC2A 1PD United Kingdom ( +44 (0)207 56 75692 ) :: Java EE Spring 2.0 Hibernate 3.2 Development :: Visit our website at http://www.ubs.com This message contains confidential information and is intended only for the individual named. -Original Message- From: drekka [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 08 January 2007 12:01 To: archiva-users@maven.apache.org Subject: RE: Giving up on Archiva Hi Peter, I'm just about to get into deploying to the local repository. All things being equal I'm hoping it should be more straight forward. I'll cerrtainly amend the guide with a basic example of doing it once I've got it working in the next day or so. As for Jetty and Tomcat. Jetty was the thing that gave me the grief originally. I've never tried Jetty before so not knowing how to set it up and configure it didn't help. However when I see step 1 ... step n instructions that claim to get up up and running I expect they work. It was not the case with the Jetty instructions I found on the Archiva site. I thought about trying the Tomcat instructions but at that time found the doco for running archiva standalone. So I switched to that mode because it seemed to me that running just it (even though it uses Jetty internally) would remove any noise created by not configuring the web server correctly. So at the moment if someone asks my opinion I would say that if you are very experienced in using Tomcat or Jetty then by all means try adding Archiva as a webapp. Otherwise I wouls suggest going standalone until you have a good reason to want to integrate it. KISS ;-) Hi I'd second that emotion, especially if you trying this out with a rigourous firewall team. I am not sure what Archiva is using under the hood for the net communication, but I will guess it is a Commons Http Client or other library. This is probably the cause of the lack of verbosity in the comms error in your message earlier. Until that low-level lib is fixed or better understood by the developer then the user will be a victim of comms errors. ==== Peter.Pilgrim wrote: ... RE: [m2] maven-exec-plugin:java command line launch
-Original Message- From: Wayne Fay [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ==== Your problem is that exec.arguments is a List of String objects, and you can only pass a single String object in from the command line. Unless someone knows how to pass an array of Strings from the CLI (I've never seen that this was possible), you can't do what you're trying to do from the CLI. You'll need to set up profiles or something to achieve this. Thanks Wayne. So there is a bug in the plugin/mojo. It needs an additional parameter and logic. So setting a profile is probably the best thing to do for now. e.g. profile idregenerate-pom/id properties java.program com.acme.cartoons.BugsBunnyProgram /java.program /properties /profile profile idpilgripe/id properties samba.internal.repository.dir U:\internal\maven-repository /samba.internal.repository.dir /properties activation property nameuser.name/name valuepilgripe/value /property /activation /profile On 12/6/06, [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi I am looking at Maven Exec Plugin. I also defined the maven.repo.local property in the ant script for our mixed build, hoping antlib would pick up on it and use the same local repository for the Maven ant tasks. No such luck. It seems there is no way to pass the location of the local repository to antlib except through ~/.m2/settings.xml or ~/.m2/ant/settings.xml. Thus there is no way to have multiple repositories per user simultaneously. I will file a JIRA request for an enhancement. Hi Jason et Al We need to export some important system variables through Maven 2 Ant[Run] and Exec similar plugins. Perhaps the developer can devise a way to create or export system variables as environment variables generally through Maven core. Marilyn I also worked around this problem by using `sed' on UNIX with a simple placeholder inside `settings.xml.in'. I did it in a shell script that called Maven like this /bin/rm -rf ${XYZ_M2_LOCAL}/settings.xml sed -e 's,@BUILD_REPO@,'${XYZ_M2_LOCAL_REPO}',g' src/release-control/settings.xml.in ${XYZ_M2_LOCAL}/settings.xml The settings.xml.in looks like this, of course: settings xmlns=http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0; xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance; xsi:schemaLocation=http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0 http://maven.apache.org/xsd/settings-1.0.0.xsd; localRepository@BUILD_REPO@/localRepository interactiveMode/ usePluginRegistry/ ... /setting Peter, Thanks for your reply and for this suggestion. We are already doing something like that in order to keep the repositories for different builds separate. But we still have the problem that each build must be allowed to complete before another one can run for the same user , because the ant tasks that use Maven can run very late in the build. (Where are the gears grinding?) I see: You have a build that has a dependency that relates to build-time. Despite the fact that Maven creates it artifacts and install them in a local repository, there is some other thing in your corporate environment that it is time conscience. If this is the case then what would be case if you are build with Apache Ant, then this build-time dependency will still exist regardless of the infrastructure technology. I am not sure, then, if Maven can solve this, especially f you cannot isolate the build-time dependency. Having said, I think a user-profile related dependency can be a problem for you. If you a user-profile that shared between teams, divisions, departments then the environment variables can be changed ad hoc. Therefore again Maven cannot I've filed the JIRA request. I got the automated acknowledgment (MNG-2684), but that's all so far. --Marilyn Meantime, our mixed builds are not scalable at all. We can do only one build per user per machine at a time. I hope the enhancement will come through fairly quickly. ==== -- Peter Pilgrim UBS Investment Bank, PTS Portal / IT FIRC OPS LDN, 100 Liverpool Street, London EC2M 2RH, United Kingdom +44 (0) 20 75 75692 :: Java EE / E-Commerce / Enterprise Integration / Development :: Visit our website at http://www.ubs.com This message contains confidential information and is intended only for the individual named. Hi -Original Message- From: Wayne Fay [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 04 December 2006 16:48 To: Maven Users List Subject: Re: [M2] Just need the open source eyes on this Do you have the corresponding sha1 and md5 files next to the pom file named ie blah-1.0.pom, blah-1.0.pom.sha1, blah-1.0.pom.md5? You will need this for all files in the repository. This can cause those error messages, IIRC. Thanks Wayne I wrote a Java tool that regenerates the MD5 and SHA-1 files based on Brett's DigestUtils. The only thing I did was append a '\n' to the end of the files. Just so I could execute `cat *.md5' and get a newline character on the command line. I don't think that cause Maven fail though. I did it in a shell script that called Maven like this /bin/rm -rf ${XYZ_M2_LOCAL}/settings.xml sed -e 's,@BUILD_REPO@,'${XYZ_M2_LOCAL_REPO}',g' src/release-control/settings.xml.in ${XYZ_M2_LOCAL}/settings.xml The settings.xml.in looks like this, of course: settings xmlns=http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0; xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance; xsi:schemaLocation=http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0 http://maven.apache.org/xsd/settings-1.0.0.xsd; localRepository@BUILD_REPO@/localRepository interactiveMode/ usePluginRegistry/ ... /setting Meantime, our mixed builds are not scalable at all. Jason suggested looking at the 'repository-assembler' in the shared module, which can convert a local repo into a remote one by adding the missing metadata. This is not good for me, because I am trying to build the project on an isolated machine. It cant get access to the Internet. BTW: Did Jason give a reason and say why not? I think that I set up a repository for as an `internal' one. What is wrong with this ``~/.m2/setting.xml'' file? urlfile:/home/pilgripe/internal/maven-repository/url My file protocol urls have file:// then /path/to/whatever. So file:///home/... (with three /'s.) from the specified remote repositories: central (http://repo1.maven.org/maven2), blah (file:/home/pilgripe/internal/maven-repository) Clearly the priority order of the repositories is incorrect, but how do you reorder them? I don't think it's an option yet, nor is convincing Maven that certain groupIds are only ever going to be found in certain repositories. If you _never_ want Maven to contact the central repository, I think you'll need to configure something as a mirrorOf central and then take responsibility for making sure that repo has everything you need. I know you were playing with Archiva... that's the path I'd take. Yes would be good if it worked. I have been trying to configure it on my developer machine. I am having a bitch of time trying to get Archiva working on the Apache/Tomcat server we have here. The archiva war is failing to start up and I don't know why yet. Nothing in the tomcat logs. I thought it was a reject servlet 2.2 lib then I removed it. Does Archiva convert the local repository into a remote repository. http://maven.apache.org/guides/mini/guide-mirror-settings.html Thanks I will take a look -- Peter Pilgrim UBS Investment Bank, PTS Portal / IT FIRC OPS LDN, 100 Liverpool Street, London EC2M 2RH, United Kingdom +44 (0) 20 75 75692 :: Java EE / E-Commerce / Enterprise Integration / Development :: Visit our website at http://www.ubs.com This message contains confidential information and is intended only for the individual named. No, I already asked. Apparently the code was pulled out of the assembly plugin, and is used to test the eclipse plugin. So you might find some hints in the eclipse plugin tests. So this sends me right back to Archiva again. Can Archiva convert a local repository back to a remote one or am I wandering down the wrong path? When I ran Archiva on my own development machine as `mvn jetty:run' did not make a repository available, except that Jetty had a bug to prevent this feature working? Can a Archiva Repo be transfered from machine to an isolated machine
Hi I want to create a remote internal repository on an isolated server. I have a plan. Your comments are welcomed please! 0) Clean my project down (mvn clean) 1) With my development PC, set up Archiva on a Tomcat instance 2) With a tomcat instance create a blank empty internal repository (e.g. C:\opt\archiva-transfer-repo ) 3) Set up a proxy of the Maven Central, because my PC can see the Internet. 4) Switch my current ~/.m2/settings.xml to a brand new configuration a) I switch over to completely fresh M2 local repository (e.g. C:\opt\throwaway-repo ) b) Switch over to the Archiva internal repository, which is now proxying Maven Central 5) Clean my project down complete again, to test the Archiva running on my development machine 6) Rebuid the entire project `mvn install' 7) Stop. With the now full internal repository with Archiva (C:\opt\archiva-transfer-repo) can I move this remote repository from one machine to another? In other words can I copy it from my development PC to the isolated machine? [m2] List of All Dependencies for any project X
Hi Jason, Brett et al How do you get a list of all dependencies (transitive or declared) for any M2 project? Basically I want to find out the list so I can cross reference against an in-house repository here at UBS. The idea is to tell the administrator here with the in-house what dependencies they should be including, so that we don't have to use any external sites. RE: [m2] XMLBeans Plugin
-Original Message- ==== -Original Message- From: Pilgrim, Peter Sent: 01 November 2006 17:46 To: 'Maven Users List' Subject: [m2] XMLBeans Plugin Maven 2 XMLBean Plugin http://mojo.codehaus.org/xmlbeans-maven-plugin/index.html I am trying to get the plugin to generate the java classes from XSD files in the same way as the `scomp' program. I stored the schema in the `src/main/xsd' folder. Is the command `mvn xmlbeans:xmlbeans' suppose to execute the scomp program? I think the plugin is doing the functional equivalent of the schema compile (scomp) when I grokked the verbose flag. I want to configure the plugin to use the same directory for the xsd and xsdconfig. For example src/main/xsd/magic/numbers/ipod.xsd src/main/xsd/magic/numbers/ipod.xsdconfig We find it convenient to have the .xsd and .xsdconfig in the same folders. How do you configure this? Don't worry it is easier to run with the flow. So I moved a few the xsdconfigs to the src/main/xsdconfig directory instead. I am trying to understand the outputJar parameter. I want to generate an XmlBean JAR that I can stuff into the M2 Repository. 1) xmlbeans does not seem to generate the jar (e.b. mvn xmlbeans:xmlbeans) How do I product it? 2) If I can generate the XMLBean Jar, do I use the install plugin to load into the repository or can the xmlbean-plugin do it all for me? build plugin groupIdorg.codehaus.mojo/groupId artifactIdxmlbeans-maven-plugin/artifactId executions execution goals goalxmlbeans/goal /goals /execution /executions inheritedtrue/inherited configuration memoryInitialSize32m/memoryInitialSize memoryMaximumSize64m/memoryMaximumSize outputJarvaluationSchema-0.4.jar/outputJar schemaDirectorysrc/main/xsd/schemaDirectory verbosetrue/verbose /configuration /plugin /plugins /build Getting there Another day, another chance to progress. The plug-in did generate output jar, however in ${basedir}. Great! Now I can do it outputJar${basedir}/target/valuationSchema-0.4.jar/outputJar But wait a minute here! This is not the Maven way to do things, is it? One primary artifact per project was the general rule, I remember. I going at this really wrong. What I really need is: 1) I want to generate the XML Beans classes. 2) Compile Java code against the generated classes in (1) 3) Run unit test against (1) and (2) 4) Package the project excluding some classes e.g. unit test 5) Install the whole as project artifact in the M2 repository This means I can chuck away the `valuationSchema-0.4.jar' thing and rely on good old' maven project definitions instead i.e. set up group id / artifact id / version and off we go! My question is therefore about step (4). Can I include and exclude classes during the packaging. The `xmlbeans-maven-plugin' generates my schema classes under `target/classes/com/ubs/firc/ptsp/**' `target/schemaoorg_apache_xmlbeans/**' `target/xmlbeans-source/com/ubs/firc/ptsp/**' The first two of the above are very useful to me, but the last is not useful for third party projects unless they want the XMLBeans Schema source code. What is the best packager here `maven-assembly-plugin' ( http://maven.apache.org/plugins/maven-assembly-plugin/index.html ) or the `maven-jar-plugin' ( http://maven.apache.org/plugins/maven-jar-plugin/ )? Of this will cover the invention or discovery of asynchronous JavaScript and XML, JSON, DOM dynamic incremental update technologies. It will also cover the battle between JavaScript and proprietary media content on the web, where does Java the platform and the language fit in? --- Question 2: How Are We Now Going to Architect the New Enterprise? --- This theme will tackle the challenges we face with the new enterprise development for the rest of `The Noughties'. We are particularly interested in the impact of Java Enterprise Edition to the businesses, and to the community of developers. [M2] Intercept the workings of EJB Plugins (was RE: [m2] ant run plugin )
Hi I finally got M2 and Antrun Plugin and the WebSphere ant task WsEjbDeploy to work successfully. I have a question on the M2 maven-ejb-Plugin. I would like to intercept the EJB plugin after it creates the server side EJB JAR in the `target' directory, but before it installs the artifacts in the maven repository. In other words I would like my websphere antrun command to run on this stage temporary jar and then let the maven-ejb-plugin take over. 1. maven-ejb-plugins creates the foo-ejb-1.0-SNAPSHOT.jar and foo-ejb-1.0-SNAPSHOT client.jar 2. ant-run plugins runs wsejbdeploy 2a) wsejbdeploy takes the foo-ejb-1.0-SNAPSHOT.jar 2b) wsejbdeploy outputs an foo-ejb-1.0-SNAPSHOT-TEMP.jar 2c) simply ant script swaps around foo-ejb-1.0-SNAPSHOT.jar and foo-ejb-1.0-SNAPSHOT-TEMP.jar 3) maven-ejb-plugin is non-the-wiser installs the foo-ejb-1.0-SNAPSHOT.jar into M2 repo. Surely there must be certain commons properties. Let me be clear. I am looking for the current classpath for the POM project build. One thing that helps is that things defined in the POM can sometimes be referenced as properties. For example 'project.build.finalName' gives the value from the pom that is defined in: project build finalNamexyz/finalname /build /project (skipping all the other parts of the POM) Just put the tags from the top down with dots between. There is a tricky part to this though. The POM you are looking at may have a parent pom from which it inherits values and all POMs have an ultimate ancestor in the SUPER pom. If you give the command 'mvn help:effective-pom it will show you the full resulting POM that results when all the inheritance and such are considered. You can look at this pom to find the dot format that is used to reference something in particular. So from this. I would be look for something like ``pom.build.classpath' or ``pom.build.test-classpath'' ? -- Lee On 8/7/06, [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Lee Meador Sent: 07 August 2006 16:49 To: Maven Users List Subject: Re: [m2] ant run plugin I do it like this. [SOLVED] RE: [M2] Intercept the workings of EJB Plugins (was RE: [m2] ant run plugin )
See intermixed -Original Message- From: Pilgrim, Peter ==== Hi I finally got M2 and Antrun Plugin and the WebSphere ant task WsEjbDeploy to work successfully. The SHORT ANSWER is the maven phase called 'verify' as documented in BBWM. 1. maven-ejb-plugins creates the foo-ejb-1.0-SNAPSHOT.jar and foo-ejb-1.0-SNAPSHOT client.jar 2. ant-run plugins runs wsejbdeploy 2a) wsejbdeploy takes the foo-ejb-1.0-SNAPSHOT.jar 2b) wsejbdeploy outputs an foo-ejb-1.0-SNAPSHOT-TEMP.jar 2c) simply ant script swaps around foo-ejb-1.0-SNAPSHOT.jar and foo-ejb-1.0-SNAPSHOT-TEMP.jar 3) maven-ejb-plugin is non-the-wiser installs the foo-ejb-1.0-SNAPSHOT.jar into M2 repo. Is this possible? The LONG ANSWER is because Maven has phases, and the EJB plugin is build to execute different procedures on lifecycle phases. Running the command `mvn install' causes the M2 to execute following phases in order [compiler:compile] [resources:testResources] [compiler:testCompile] [resources:testResources] [surefire:test] unit test are run and only then does the EJB plug-in kick-in (pun intended) [ejb:ejb] builds the EJB-JAR as you would expected Because the ant-run is set on the phase called verify, which the phase before install, then it will run [ant:run] This runs the ANT script and WsEjbDeploy and now I can intercept and process the EJB-JARs. The script swaps the input JAR with the proceesed output JAR [install] The EJB plugin now executes agains and installs the EJB-JAR into the M2 repository. Job done. I will document this craziness on my blog http://jroller.com/page/peter_pilgrim asap because this was too damn crazy. ==== -- Peter Pilgrim UBS Investment Bank, PTS Portal / IT FIRC OPS LDN, 100 Liverpool Street, London EC2M 2RH, United Kingdom :: Java EE / E-Commerce / Enterprise Integration / Development :: Visit our website at http://www.ubs.com This message contains confidential information and is intended only for the individual named. Hi Marco -Original Message- From: Marco Mistroni [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ==== hi peter, not sure if it can help a colleague of mine wrote an ant script for building EJB and deploying them, but it was with ant and it was deployed on WAS 5.1. i think he used 'custom' ant task from IBM for websphere So, if m2 can't help, you could be able to launch an ant task from m2 sorry to say that i don't know where my colleague script went (and he has left the company few months ago) I am new to Websphere building. So it sounds like that WebSphere makes it harder to deploy EJB without using the wizards and IDEs. I am beginning to come to the same conclusion to launch Ant from M2, except I am unsure the name of the ant task to call. I am getting a dependency missing when I deploy a pure EAR that was build from the maven-ejb-plugin and maven-ear-plugin. I suspect that EAR and EJB-JAR requires a Websphere extensions ( e.g an ejb-jar-ext.xml and ejb-jar-bnd.xml meta file) However if you ever find that script let me know hth marco ==== -- Peter Pilgrim UBS Investment Bank, PTS Portal / IT FIRC OPS LDN, 100 Liverpool Street, London EC2M 2RH, United Kingdom :: Java EE / E-Commerce / Enterprise Integration / Development :: Visit our website at http://www.ubs.com This message contains confidential information and is intended only for the individual named.
