AOO 4.1 presentation looks fine in AOO, skewed background exported to PPT and played w MS Ppoint Viewer 2007...

2014-05-30 Thread Fernando Cassia
AOO 4.1 here. XP64

I created a multi-slides (66 slides so far) presentation using one of
the templates.

When I preview the slideshow in AOO 4.1,everything looks fine.

As soon as I export the presentation to MS Powerpoint, and load it in
MS Powerpoint Viewer 2007, the background bitmap, which looked
stretched to fill the whole screen and as such with text centered on
it, becomes 1/3 of the screen on the powerpoint viewer 2007, and as
such text gets overlaid over the borders of the bitmap.

What is going on here?. Obviously something having to do with AOO 4.1
Impress making the background bitmap "stretched to fill the screen",
and on the contrary, that attribute is not carried over to the PPT
export, so MS Powerpoint Viewer 2007 just shows the bitmap with its
original absolute pixel size (not stretched) and as a result text gets
over the borders...

Solution?

Thanks in advance.

If there is no one to maintain it then it is probably not a good choice for
html writing. No wonder the generated code for bold was which I think
is deprecated so one has changed it to use the style sheets or alternate
html code.

Normally I write HTML directly but thought I could use a program which
makes it a tad easier for formatting, fonts and links and thought that
OpenOffice works on all platforms (PC/Macs) could be the one solution.
( Microsoft word was horrendous at writing/converting html !!!).

Anyway , I found that Microsoft Expression Web 4 :
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=36179

is now free ( at least the version I am using ) and generates code without
any extra stuff like word and does not generate the paragraph tags
and has a code and split screen for design and code, so you can easily add
html code directly in the "code" tab ( e.g. tags) and then continue
in the design tab. In the "Code" tab it shows drop down menu for available
tags e.g. for style sheets or tables.
Normally am I not in favor of Microsoft products for such development but
this one fits the bill. The version will not get updated with newer HTML5
and newer css. For anything more complex Visual Studio /Dreamweaver could
be used.

I had tested Amaya but it did not display many documents correctly and it
does not have any support and no new development.

Thanks all for responding.

Do not try to use Writer/Web for this task. It generates old fashioned,
not really good HTML code. There is currently no volunteer to maintain

For simple structured documents you get a better result, when you use
the normal Writer and use styles, and export the document to XHTML.

Obviously you are able to read HTML, therefore even a simple editor with
only syntax-highlighting will work better for you than Writer/Web.

to be honest, openoffice is a rather poor html editor. it haven't even closed the
tags when i tried your example. so, in any case, every html file created
with it should be hand-checked.

Re: OpenOffice Writer/Web how to add lists without paragraph tags.

2014-05-30 Thread Buck
I have found that in using any word processor to "write" HTML files many
extraneous, unneeded, and sometimes even unwanted tags are generated. The
work-around that I use is to generate a file using the word processor and
then edit it with a text processor such as WordPad in Windows. I can't say
about Mac's because I have never used one. You can see an example of the
results of my method at www.considerthis.net.

Hi,

My understanding is that you can only "export" any OO Writer
document as an HTML file. For this, you would add normal
formatting as for any Writer document, without worrying about
HTML tags.

I suppose you might then be able to change the tags to your
liking - but for this, and if you want to manually write HTML
files, you are probably better off using a text editor, such as
BBEdit/TextWrangler on a Mac.

That's my experience anyway.

Apple magic mouse - iMac - Spread Sheet scrolling to the right problem

2014-05-30 Thread Print @ Northern Labels
Hi

I have used Open office for a number of years and I think the software is truly
excellent. However in the latest update
I seem to have a problem with the scrolling from side to side on my mac.
Sometimes if i scroll up or down using my
magic mouse the page scrolls to the right and doesn’t stop. Every time I try to
scroll left, it scrolls further to the right.
I can get back to the left side by using the arrow keys, but sometimes it has
scrolled so far that it takes quite a while
to get back to the left hand side.

I thought you should know about this , as after looking on line I can see that
I am not the only one who is having this problem.

I hope this will be something that can be fixed or is simply a problem with my

Powerpoint Viewer 2007 refuses to open presentation saved with AOO 4.1 as PPT

2014-05-30 Thread Fernando Cassia
Apache OpenOffice 4.1 here, WinXP64. (yes, xp64, long story, no I
won't upgrade OS...).

I created a 64-slides long presentation using AOO. I saved this to PPT
with the intent of later using a shareware PPT/PPS to video converter.

But first I wanted to know if Microsoft's own Powerpoint Viewer would
open the file.
Went to Microserf's site and downloaded what looks like the latest
greatest Powerpoint Viewer for my system. It's "Microsoft Powerpoint
Viewer 2007"

It doesn't open it. Even while AOO 4.1 claims to save in PPT (97/2000/XP).

I tried even installing the Powerpoint 97 viewer. Doesn´t open up the
AOO 4.1 generated PPT either. So what version of PPT does AOO 4.1
write to?
Shouldn´t the user be able to select rather than a generic, the
version of the PPT generated? (I´m assuming that PPT 97 is not the
same as 2000 which is not the same as XP).

Perhaps the Powerpoint Viewer 2007 has developed "counter measures" to
identify AOO generated files and abort?. It wouldn´t be the first or
the last time, remember the infamous AARD routine...

Thoughts?

I'm running OO 4.1.0 on a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.8.5 In Calc the
