On your desktop select New -> Shortcut and past "C:\Program Files
(x86)\OpenOffice 4\program\swriter.exe" into the field.

Now you have a desktop icon that starts Writer with a new document

I've tried uninstalling the latest version and I tried each version down to
4.0.0, and I'm fairly certain I had a version above that, but they all did
the same and I could no longer access the writer directly.

I currently have the latest version installed, but I thought I'd send out
an email before looking for a new writer program - I really did enjoy it
and I'm not entirely sure how to get it back, so if you could help me, that
would be fantastic. I don't care much what version I get aha.

Hello there,
Recently the company I am working for has downloaded your program, OpenOffice

Why it is slow is something we can't answer without seeing the file.
There are a couple of things influence the process time.
1. The amount of data
2. The complexity of the calculations that need to be performed at
opening the file. You can switch it of under Tools -> Cell Contents ->
AutoCalculate.
3. Once you have opened the Excel file save it in .ods format because a
conversion takes always more time that opening in native language.
4. If all of above don't help persuade your employer to buy decent
computers.

The computers we are using are Windows 7 computers that run on a Core 2 Duo
with 2 GB of RAM and a 32-bit Operating System.
Please help,
Emma

Request for a dump of database of OpenOffice bugzilla

2017-06-22 Thread Itzel Morales Ramírez
To whom it may concern,
I am a researcher working on the analysis of online discussions. My
colleagues and I recently published a paper that describes a work which
uses an excerpt of database from the OpenOffice bugzilla tracking system. (
https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-319-59536-8_11)
I’m contacting you because I need of your kind help and support to extend
my current excerpt, since I only have threads from 2012-2013(August) of the
Writer application.

Would you mind sharing with me a dump of the threads for the Writer
application from 2013(September) - 2017 (until now) in XML?
Something like the attached file

I really appreciate your time and support in advance!
Best regards

Re: Help with Text Document

I use Apache Open Office 4 and in the Text Document page I do some

chapters, instead of having to use the scroll bar on the right hand
side of the work page to quickly find a particular section.

You can do this very easily using the Navigator. To display this,
either go to View | Navigator (or press F5) or - probably more
conveniently - click the Navigator icon (it looks like a compass) at
the right edge of the window to open the Navigator in the Sidebar.
You will want to give your chapter headings a suitable paragraph
style - one of the numbered Heading styles; these will then appear in
the list of Headings in the Navigator. Just double-click the heading
there to jump to that position in the text.

There are other ways of marking positions in the text that also allow
this simple, direct method of accessing them - notably Bookmarks. Set
bookmarks using Insert | Bookmark... . Sections (Insert | Section...)
can also be accessed in this way.

I trust this helps.
