This link is for the Apache OpenOffice website, https://www.openoffice.org/

Once there click the "I want to download Apache OpenOffice
<https://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html> link" and you'll be
connected to the free download for the current version, 4.1.14 as you say.
Earlier versions and versions for various computer operating systems are
also available at the link.

Click the download button and a new page will open, https://sourceforge.net,
click NOTHING on this new page, just wait for the download to begin.

ESTSubject: New Computer - Microsoft has changed my documents to Word
 Hi and Help
I have a new computer, have downloaded Apache Open Office, and have copied
documents that are Open Office ODT onto my new computer via a Flash Drive. Now
all of my files appear to be Word documents and when I attempt to open a
document, the Microsoft popup wants to prompt me to purchase their software
which I do not want.  I get a message that I have to delete the S app and
afterwards can never add it again.
I have tried to change/open via AOF but that doesn't work.  Do I have to
purchase the AOF app and if I do purchase, will Microsoft then allow me to
change the documents into OF?
Any help will be appreciated!!

Re: New Computer - Microsoft has changed my documents to Word

2021-01-13 Thread Steven Ahlers
Jennie,

The File Association of your documents has been changed. This is something that
Windoz is pretty aggressive about doing. To fix this open the File Explorer app
in Windows System (or the File Folder icon on the Task Bar). In the window for
File Explorer open the folder that has your Writer files in it. Highlight one
of your Writer files and then click on the triangle (down arrow) to the right
of Open. This will bring up a menu of choices of programs to open that file in.
If OpenOffice Writer is not in that list chose “Chose another app” and search
through that list to find OpenOffice Writer, click OpenOffice Writer and then
check box “Always use this app to open .odt files” this will change the file
association on all .odt files to OpenOffice Writer. If you have saved text
documents in other file formats then you will need to change the file
association for those formats as well.

As a courtesy I have sent a copy of this message to you since you may not see

On my Windows the files for the palettes (with the extension .soc) are in

If you have your own palette back it might be useful to copy it as standard.soc.

As I've been using a dated ( but still working) version of microsoft

When I attempt to do this with open office, I end up getting a

Can I change what seems to be a default behavior so when I copy

Bruce,
Did you try Paste-Special from the Edit menu (Ctrl-Shift-V)?
I just tried it and it pops up a list of types and "Unformatted text" is
one of them. In fact, it appears to be the default. My test from a web
page with pictures resulted in plain text without the frames or whatever
they are.

You have the cells formatted as time. If you want the entry to be text,
you may put a preceeding apostrophe to preserve the data as a text string.

Such as QUOTE '03/03/1904 15:11:00 END QUOTE in column C2 for instance.

I hope this helps.

Look at the date settings under Tools -- Options -- OpenOffice Calc

On the top right there is a setting for Date make sure you use the same
as in the

previous version of Calc.

Hi

like now:

When I saved the work and looked, almost all dates were changed 4y1d
or 4y2d older. Minority was not.
I take backups all the time, but unfortunately the last was then
several days old, and I'v done plenty of updating data. Tracing my

Before trying to mend data, I want to know, how is it, that Calc does
catastrophe like this. And how can I be sure, it doesn't make it again.

Versions of OO have been several in my use, but no bug of this kind,
since and so far.

By Google I can find hints of problems of this kind, but no solution.
And the community have not taken the bug for fixing. Surely the bug is
difficult to repeat.
I guess, it must be with 'basedate', but I'v not changed it ever
(naturally). If I change it now, the corrupted dates shift 4y1d more
older. The plain date-number in the cell have been shifted permanently.

If the corruption was frequent, i.e. ALL the dates was shifted the
same, I could try by somewhat function or math. But there are at least
three cases. Almost impossible.

Have anyone experience or advice?
