Regular crash with Windows 11

2024-04-21 Thread David Lautzenheiser

Open Office,

Currently running Open Office 4.1.15 under windows 11. In Open Office
Writer, I am attempting to edit a document that is 23 pages in length.
Whenever I make even a minor change, the program crashes with no
warning, etc.

The same version of Open Office running under windows 10 works just fine
on the same file.

Are there any known issues with Windows 11 support? I can provide the
file and more details of a crash if needed. If there is a crash log
file, I can provide that as well, providing someone points me to the
file location.

Thanks,

David Lautzenheiser

Spreadsheet crash

2023-05-21 Thread Glenn Little WB4UIV

I may have reached some software limitations.
I have a large spreadsheet that I am editing.
The spreadsheet has 31 sheets.
Each sheet has 7 columns.
The largest sheet currently has 25000 lines.
The next largest sheet has 8500 lines.

When I try and save the file I sometimes get the following error message:
OpenOffice 4.1.14 - Fatal Error
! Bad Allocation.
When I press OK the program gives me the option to recover the file.

Sometimes the program just crashes, usually after moving data around
giving the following error message:

OpenOffice 4.1.14
OpenOffice Document Recovery
Due to an unexpected error. OpenOffice crashed. All the files you were
working on will now be saved. The next time OpenOffice is launched, your
files will be recovered automatically.

The following files will be recovered:
(the file I was working on).

Other times I get the following error message:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime error
Program C:/Program Files (x86)\OpenOffice 4\program\soffice.bin
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual
way.

Please contact the application's support team for more information.

The os is Windows 10.

Have I exceeded the design limits of the program?
If so, what limit have I exceeded?

What causes the above error messages?

Thank you
Glenn

Re: Windows 11 Crash - OpenOffice Runs - Not Responding State

2022-06-13 Thread David Stuhr

Hello,

Yes, I have used End Task in Task Manager to quit OpenOffice and then
restarted  Windows 11. There was no change in the behavior of OpenOffice
after the restart.

I downloaded OpenOffice from the web, uninstalled OpenOffice and
re-installed OpenOffice. Everything is back to "normal behavior" of
OpenOffice. Am now able to create, save and reopen OpenOffice text and
spreadsheet documents.

Thanks for your assistance.

How do I get OpenOffice in a state that I can create new text and spreadsheet

Windows 11 Crash - OpenOffice Runs - Not Responding State

Pivot table crash

2022-02-19 Thread Patrick Bravard
Hi guys,

I have been using Open Office for many years.

In the last three or four versions a bug was introduced that prevent using
Pivot tables fully.

I include two screen shots :

1) This one of many pivot tables.

2) If one clicks on the reveal arrow next to Month, the following picture
appears which should let one modify the sort order… However if one moves the
mouse inside the grey area, Open Office will crash EVERY TIME, in ANY pivot
tables.

I would love someone to fix this bug… Or give me advice on how to circumvent it.

I’m using Open Office 4.1.10 (it happens at least since 4.1.7)
macOS 12.2.1 (the bug occurred on earlier version as well) on an iMac Retina 5K
27 inch, late 2015, 4oGB of RAM (it happens also on my MacBook Pro 2021 MAX)

I look forward to your help.

bug report OpenOffice crash upon check for update

2021-11-02 Thread Cameron MacMinn
OpenOffice crash upon check for update

TL; DR OpenOffice crashes upon check for update. Automatic check

crashes after ~30 s. Manual check crashes immediately.

Possible cause: it appears that Apache's SSL certificate expired,

for the web page which tells the latest OpenOffice version.

System under test:

- OpenOffice 4.1.11 (also 4.1.10 and 4.1.7(?), not shown).

- MacBook Air, macOs Mojave, Version 10.14.6.

- Safari browser, Version 14.1.2.

Steps to duplicate problem:

- OpenOffice menu, Preferences... item, Online Update item, Check now
button.

- boom!

Alternate steps to duplicate problem:

- OpenOffice menu, Preferences... item, Online Update item, Check

for updates automatically check box, Every Day radio button.

- quit OpenOffice

- rerun OpenOffice

- wait ~30 s, boom!

Workaround to prevent problem:

- OpenOffice menu, Preferences... item, Online Update item,

set Check for updates automatically check box to unchecked.

- wait for crash, or quit OpenOffice

- rerun OpenOffice

- should run for indefinitely long time.

Related info:

  $ cat /Applications/OpenOffice.app/Contents/MacOS/versionrc# says:

  [Version]

  UpdateURL=https://ooo-updates.apache.org/aoo4111/check.Update?pkgfmt=dmg

  ...snip...

  $ curl https://ooo-updates.apache.org/aoo4111/check.Update# says:

curl: (60) SSL certificate problem: certificate has expired

  More details here: https://curl.haxx.se/docs/sslcerts.html

curl performs SSL certificate verification by default, using a "bundle"

of Certificate Authority (CA) public keys (CA certs). If the default

bundle file isn't adequate, you can specify an alternate file

   using the --cacert option.

If this HTTPS server uses a certificate signed by a CA represented in

the bundle, the certificate verification probably failed due to a

problem with the certificate (it might be expired, or the name might

not match the domain name in the URL).

If you'd like to turn off curl's verification of the certificate, use

   the -k (or --insecure) option.

  HTTPS-proxy has similar options --proxy-cacert and --proxy-insecure.

$ # -k insecure, not recommended for production

  $ curl -k https://ooo-updates.apache.org/aoo4111/check.Update# not
recommended, but says:

Happens on Linux only and I suspect it is related to GNOME Desktop

My OpenOffice Writer crash on every closing of a odt-file. This happens if
there exists a chapter index, the file have to be bigger as 50 sites, after
the last opening you must write around one side by typing and not by copy
and paste. The problem exists in Ubuntu-Linux with OpenOffice since I
changed from Windows to Linux. Now I try to find help. But in the forum

It’s hard to read the screenshot, but it looks like you are on OpenOffice 4.1.7?

You should update to 4.1.9.

Could we have a hint as to what is crashing, and the circumstances in
which this happens? If it is happening with Apache OpenOffice,
information on your OS and OpenOffice version might be helpful.

On the other hand, if your car is crashing, this might not be the right

It's not our product. We are just users, like you. We help each other out
the best we can. Some times I ask a question, sometimes I reply to someone
else's question.
Maybe a few developers read this list too, I don't know, but if you really
want someone to dig into your problem it's probably better to file a bug
report, if you are sure that you ran into a bug. Doing so you will need to
provide much more information than you did here, though. Everything you can
think of. What did you do when it crashed? What crashed (writer, calc
etc.)? What version do you use? What is your operating system? What
version of your operating system? What hat did you wear when Apache
OpenOffice crashed? Anything you can think of. Too much information is
better than too little. Ok, maybe you shouldn't mention your hat, but you
know what I mean.

> your program crashes constantly, needless to say all written information

What happens when you try to restore it? And how do you do that?

Please is this now a permanent feature?
>
Yes, it's permanent. Some developer thought it was a good idea to let the
application crash now and then, so he built in the randomCrash() method,
which seems to work very well.

No, just kidding. If your application crashes often, then something is
obviously wrong. Either your system itself, the application or some setting
somewhere.

One thing to try is to reset your Apache OpenOffice user profile. Just give
the folder a different name and restart Apache OpenOffice, and it will
create a new, fresh one for you. If that works, that is if Apache
OpenOffice no longer crashes, then you know that something in your old user
profile caused the crashes. If crashes still occur, something else is
wrong, and you could probably start using your old profile again, if it
contains something useful for you.

Since you didn't mention your operating system, I can't tell you where your
profile folder is, but on my system it's at ~/.openoffice/4/ and it's
called ”user”. Just rename it to something else, like user_old, restart
Apache OpenOffice and now you have both user and user_old but only user is
used.

In your user_old you'll find things like your global macros,
configurations, templates, extensions and more. If there is something that
you really need, just copy it over to the new user profile.

As I have lost again today 2.5 hours work I'm not a very happy person
> please if you reply no political correctness just the simple facts.
>

Then I'll suggest that you turn your automatic save on, Set it to a few
minutes or so. Another option is of course to manually save every time you
added something worth saving. That's very easy: Just press Ctrl+s. No need
to even move your hand from the keyboard to the mouse to do such a basic
thing.

You have given us no facts on which we can work. What is your operating system
and version of OpenOffice? Are you working in Calc, in Writer, in Impress?

In the 2.5 hours of work, did you Save your work at any time. Do you use a
timed/dated backup system. When the crash occurred, was it OpenOffice, or the
Operating System?

If it were mine, I’d try to go around it. Open your problem chart. Then open a
new blank spreadsheet. Select your chart, and choose Select all (Ctrl-A). Copy.
Then select the new spreadsheet document and paste. Try modifying the
newly-created document.

Hope that works for you.

I think I just did sudo apt-get purge libreoffice*, but it was a long time

Re: Crash when trying to create a new style

2016-01-03 Thread Matthias Seidel

You mean you installed OpenOffice with their DEBS, aren't you?
After you uninstalled LibreOffice with:

sudo apt-get remove --purge libreoffice*
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get autoremove

I also did a fresh start and "new file" in CALC, no crash...
I use the german version (32 bit) but I doubt that it is dependend on
the language.

As for MS fonts, I have installed "ttf-mscorefonts-installer" from
Ubuntu Software-Center.

This can happen if the OpenOffice user profile becomes corrupt. You should
delete or rename the user profile.

As you are using Windows do this by:

Close OpenOffice and the Quickstarter. Open File Explorer. Copy and paste
%appdata%\OpenOffice\4 in the File Explorer Address Bar and press Enter. Delete
or Rename the "user" folder. Start OpenOffice.

recovered and I pressed on the recovery .then next came on and I pressed
next, then the document came up then right away a messagecame up saying crashed
. So I pressed ok to save the document. I did this for two hours because the
messages kept coming on the screen to recover the document.i kept recovering
the document about 100 times. And now I can not open my document at all. I
called Acer and they said it is open office 4.1.1 application caused this crash
not Acer.

if your operating system is mac osx, then the following may help:

On recent versions of Mac OS X it might happen, especially after a Force quit, that the following error message appears:
Restore Windows - The application OpenOffice.org was forced to quit while trying to restore its windows. Do you want to try to
restore its windows again?. If you cannot get rid of it: Option-click the Go menu; choose Library from the
menu to open the folder in the Finder; click on the folder Saved Application State; delete the file
org.openoffice.script.savedState.

if that doesn't help, please say what operating system you use and what is the
exact wording of the error messages (do not send screenshots because they are
often stripped off by the list antispam engine).

I don't know if this applies to your situation, but the recent version
4.1.1 fixes issues with the Mighty Mouse scrolling on Mac. You may
want to double-check with the latest version to start.

  Andrea.

This is, I think, a known bug with the current version for Mac of OpenOffice.

Yes: that won't help

If I'm right, you need to delete a file - which is hidden by
default. Here are the instructions that others said have succeeded for them:

o Close OpenOffice.
o Click somewhere in the desktop to make the Finder active. You
should see the word Finder as the second menu header (right next to
the Apple logo) on your menu bar. Don't click this!
o Further along the menu bar, you should now see a Go menu
header. If you click this Go menu header (while the Finder is
active), you will still not see what you need. But if you hold down
your Option or Alt key as you click the Go menu, you will now see an
enlarged Go menu, including Library.
o Click Library from the enhanced Go menu to open the Library folder
in the Finder.

o In the Library folder, click on the folder Saved Application State.
o In that folder, find the file org.openoffice.script.savedState
and delete it.

o Restart OpenOffice.

I trust this helps.

Problem with Open Office: Window does not close after computer crash

2013-03-08 Thread Anja Schulte
Dear OpenOffice-users,
it would be great if somebody can help me. I have the following configuration
and problem:

Configuration:
Apple MacBook Pro, OS X 10.7.5.
Apache Open Office 3. (as I cannot open the program I can't´see the exact
version)

The problem I have:
I downloaded from my video camera a video on the laptop and during this
download the laptop crashed.
Afterwards a window in OpenOffice appeared saying restore window. This window
has to options to click on: Restore window and do not restore window. I can
click on both but nothing happens afterwards. The window is always there.
therefore, it is not possible to close OpenOffice on the normal way. I have
to click on terminate immediately the complete program.
now it is not possible to open files in OpenOffice by the finder. It is only
possible to open files by always follow the step above for every single file.
also, it is not possible to print or safe a new document in Open Office.
In the forum I found the advice to rename the user library and start the
program again. I did that, but the window was still there afterwards with the
same problems as above listed.

Thank you so much in advance,
kind regards,
Anja

Re: crash report of Neo Office

2013-01-08 Thread riklar
Jim,

Once again thank for your mail, for your advises and for your suggestions.
You will see that I wrote to the list about to reversed brackets. i hope
someone would help me. I am afraid filing bug report to OO is not very
fruitful, unfortunately.
I understand your explanations regarding the $100 fee to be aloud to assist NO.
Well, they have got a strange way to exist, but they know better than me what
they are doing. NO will be my last choice.
I will try your suggestions about reanimating NO, and I'll see the outcomes.

I do hope OO would wake up and fix the bug.

Best to you

 Rik,
OpenOffice is not NeoOffice, so there's little any of the developers here can
do for you. Patrick has changed a lot of the OOo code, and at this point just
about all of Neo 3.3.3 runs in Apple-native Cocoa. The only part that still
runs under Java is the Base (database) module. Neo is based on a build of
OpenOffice, and much of the core OOo code operates it. But it is an entirely
different program from a user-interface standpoint.

There are only two developers of Neo, the principal one being Patrick Luby.
He was overwhelmed with maintenance requests, so he did the only thing he
could do and still keep Neo a viable program: He charges for technical
 support at $100/year.

I cannot myself decipher your crash log. But I can confirm that Neo 3.3.3
works just fine on my 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 iMac. If 3.3.3 crashed the first
time you tried to open it, then you may have got yourself a bad download. Try
downloading it again (The $10 fee you paid will cover it, and will allow you
to d/l patches throughout the year without further charge.) Further, you can
read through the Trinity website https://trinity.neooffice.org/ and see
whether others may be having similar problems.

If Neo is mission-critical to you, then you might want to give consideration
to the $100 annual support fee. With that fee paid, when you file a crash
report with Patrick, you may get a fix posted the same day. My best record is
90 minutes from complaint to resolution. Try that with Microsoft, or even
AOO. Won't happen. Of course, the resolution time will vary with the type of
complaint and how hard Patrick has to dig to resolve it.

Try a new d/l and see if that doesn't resolve your problem. If you have prior
versions of OOo on your machine, remove the preferences (move the folder and
rename it) and restart Neo. Also disable any haxies you may have running, and
re-activate them gradually to see if one of them may be causing the crash.

You may e-mail me direct at jimplante (at) me (dot) com if you want to
discuss it, but I warn you in advance that I'm not any good at deciphering
crash logs. And at present, I do not have a maintenance account with Patrick.
(Don't need it; everything works fine.)

 Jim Plante

 Hello,

I am new to the the list so if I am doing something wrong, please, be

I could not find a way to report a crash report to the Neo Office people.
So, I am trying my luck here.
I have paid for the last NO 3.3.3 version $10. They ask me another $100 to
be aloud to report them a crash report in a software i have paid for.
A strange logic to which I do not understand, but it is possible I an wrong.
Here is the crash report, to which I understand nothing in its content, but
which i hope will serve to fix my software, which i need badly.
 Here is the files:
