Thank you but the pop-up message received was definitely from OpenOffice and
the solution from Mr.Barker seems to have solved the problem.

The why is difficult to answer as we don't know what the cause of the
message is, it definitely not comes from OpenOffice.
It comes from your Operating System, most likely the file association
has changed.
You can change the default program in your Control Panel in the Default
Program section.

You have - perhaps understandably - assumed that this behaviour is
standard for the new version, but that is not so. OpenOffice must
have crashed whilst you were editing the document named in the
message. Data relevant to your editing was automatically saved during
the earlier session, and you are being offered the opportunity to
recover as much of that document as possible. Clearly the response
"Recovery Failed" indicates that recovery cannot take place. But if
you attempt recovery each time, the recovery information will not be
purged and you will indeed be offered the opportunity repeatedly. All
you have to do to avoid this is to select the other option - to
decline the recovery, that is. Then the saved information will be
removed and you will not be offered the option in future. (This saved
information is quite separate from your saved copies of any document.)

Note that - since the named document was open when OpenOffice crashed
- you will want to open your saved copy of it and check that your
most recent changes were indeed saved.

I trust this helps.

It's no secret! Providing that Tools | Options... | Load/Save |
General | Save | Save AutoRecovery information every ... Minutes is
ticked, OpenOffice regularly but quietly salts away information about
the current editing session. Normally, this information is purged
when the active document is closed. If OpenOffice fails for any
reason (hardware problem? software glitch? user malpractice?), the
saved information is not deleted. This is detected the next time
OpenOffice is started and the offer described above - to attempt
OpenOffice Document Recovery, here on the document file "2017DP
Consultation Response" - is made. If the recovery is successful, a
version of the document is presented and the user can decide whether
to save it instead of or as well as the original file - whatever
condition that is in. If the recovery is not successful, the offer
will be repeated each time OpenOffice is started. The solution in
this case is simple: to decline the recovery process once.

Strangely, the manuals suggest that this facility saves the current
state of documents over the originals - as if File | Save were being
used at regular intervals. But that is not the case (and would be
unhelpful anyway). The built-in help is somewhat clearer on the subject.

Re: OpenOffice 4.1.3. Unerwünschtes Pop-Up-Fenster.

2017-07-27 Thread Apo

Hallo Peter,

keine Pop-Up - Fenster.

The quick cure for this is to rename the OpenOffice user profile.

If you are using Windows close OpenOffice and the Quickstarter. Open File
Explorer. Copy and paste %appdata%\OpenOffice\4 in the File Explorer
Address Bar and press Enter. Rename the "user" folder - "user.old" is a
good choice. Start OpenOffice.

This cures most spellcheck problems

This message comes from your Operating System and tells you that you
have no permission for the given file.

Try to run the program with administrator privilege.

The xlr format used by later versions of MS Works can be opened by AOO
as it is a stripped down version of the xls format. As far as other
Works documents, and even the xlr ones, conversion at www.zamzar.com
would be the best route.

To my knowledge no versions of OOo or AOO will open Works files. GO-oo
did have MS Works support and that was ported to LibreOffice.

OpenOffice 4 does not open Works files. You can use the free online service at
www.zamzar.com to convert them to OpenOffice (or other formats), and should
continue to work in those formats hereafter. I think OpenOffice 3 versions will
handle Works formats, but do not know for certain.

The quick cure for this is to delete or rename the OpenOffice user profile.

Details of the User Profile for various operating systems
are given in

https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74=12426

If you are using Windows close OpenOffice and the Quickstarter. Open File
Explorer. Copy and paste %appdata%\OpenOffice\4 in the File Explorer
Address Bar and press Enter. Rename the "user" folder - "user.old" is a
good choice. Start OpenOffice.

This cures most spellcheck problems

korrekt anzuzeigen. Abhilfe: Spalte verbreitern.

What has happened is not that OpenOffice has overwritten all your existing
files, but in the installation it has resumed responsibility for opening these
files, hence displayed its icon on the various file types.

All you need to do is to nominate the program you wish to open each type of
file (provided, of course) that that program _can_ open that type of file.
Howqto do this is set out in this note
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74=12918

The techniques therein will work for other programs than MS Office.

Apache OpenOffice 4.1.3 Release

2017-01-25 Thread Bill Ronald
Dear Apache,

I recently thought I'd take a look at your product. I have been using
various levels of Microsoft Office for many years. After the download, I
opened up the writing tool and played with it for about 5 minutes. I didn't
like the formatting options and date entries and such, so I deleted my
"play" letter and then I looked at one Excel file, which did open, but I
saved nothing. I decided to completely uninstall your package and yesterday
I was "ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED" to find that your package had completely
overwritten all my files, including my address labels, addresses, Excel, and
Word documents and changed "EVERYTHING" (absolutely everything) to .XML
format. Your package literally destroyed 31 years of my personal writings
including 31 years of Scripture writings and notes. I could not sleep at
all when I went to bed, notwithstanding the damage to my computer; but the
anxiety of how in the world I was going to fix it. I have been up the
entire night long, and it is just short of 5:00 a.m. Mountain Standard Time.
I finally figured out how to convert everything back to Microsoft Word docs,
but I'm really steamed that your Apache OpenOffice 4.1.3 did this much
damage to my computer and my files. I'm 73 years old and I am naturally
sleep deprived anyhow, and this worry brought on by your product has done me
no good at all.

THANKS A LOT!

vorhanden. Auch beim Versuch die die Vorgänger-Version 4.1.2 über
Systemsteuerung, Programme deinstallieren, erscheint die gleiche Meldung
und die Deinstallation wird wieder rückgängig gemacht.

Was mache ich beim Installieren falsch ?

Mit freundlichen Grüßen

OpenOffice 4.1.3

eigenes Office verkaufen will.

Was kann ich tun?

Höre gerne wieder von Ihnen.

Apache OpenOffice 4.1.3 includes fixes for three security vulnerabilities that

publicly disclosed as part of the release.

The complete list and the individual bulletins can be found via
<https://www.openoffice.org/security/bulletin.html>.

Although there are no known exploits against any of these, users are urged to
update their Apache OpenOffice to version 4.1.3.

Set system File Associations to tell your operating system to always use
OpenOffice to open .odt, .ods etc files.

I installed update 4.1.3 and while I can still open .odt files from
withing open office; the icons shown in windows file explorer no longer
show them to be an open office file. In addition, when I click
properties, windows 7 no longer gives me the option to always open .odt
