Let me try what you want to do. You might have work hours in column B, hourly
pay in column C and the company you're billing to has an agreement, that you
only charge for 80% of the total cost? Is this idea correct?

If so, what you would want to enter in either A1 or D1 is:

=B1 * C1 * 0,8

If you want to be able to change the percentage quickly you should enter it in
a separate cell before your actual data. Say your percentage entry is in cell
A1, then the formula changes as follows:

=B1 * C1 * $A$1

The $ signs fix the entry for the cell, so if you copy the formula to other
cells, the reference for A1 stays the same, while B1 and C1 change.

Hope this helps.

[users] How to make AutoFilter act more like Excel's Autofilter

2011-03-09 Thread Andy Graybeal

Hello,
My organization is trying to move from MS Office to OpenOffice (or it
might be read, I'm trying to convince everyone to move from MS Office to
OpenOffice in an effort to move our business to use only open source
software).

We're using OpenOffice 3.2.0 on Ubuntu 10.04.

One of my co-workers regularly uses Excel's (2003, if I remember
correctly) Autofilter feature, and she has a different experience with
OpenOffice's Autofilter.

Here are the steps taken in Excel:
* Select a row
* We go to: Data - Filter - Auto Filter
* Dropdown boxes appear for every column
	* We select an item from the dropdown box; this lists only the items
that have been filtered, and it gives her the chance to make a subtotal
in one of the empty row below the filter results.

Here are the steps taken in OpenOffice:
* Select a row
	* We go to: Data - Filter - Auto Filter, it informs and asks us that
The range does not contain column headers. Do you want the first line
to be a column header? We select Yes from the dialog box.

* Dropdown boxes appear for every column
	* We make a selection from a dropdown box; this lists the filtered
items and other information. She doesn't get the chance to make a
subtotal in an empty row below the filter results.

Can you help us approach the situation? Should we be doing things
differently? What is a column header and would assigning this help us?

Thanks,
Andy

If you have OOo (Openoffice.org)[you refer to this as open office]
installed on a computer, it contains the license that applies to it. The
name of the file: license.html. You will find it located in a
Openofice.org folder.
If you read this license carefully, you will discover that you can
do what you are asking. The license also permits Company A to sell
Openoffice.org to Company B without making any changes to the program.

Yes its a list. Received email. What sort of details? It operates as an
email list, similar in operation to how other email lists operate for
Openoffice. It is on the new platform so it operates as such. Emails (did
you try?) sent to that address will go to a moderator who will pass the
email onto the list (and yes that happens since I have tried it myself). You
can subscribe to the email list (as with all other email lists) by sending
an email to sy...@ooo-migration.kenai.com with subject: subscribe discuss
- without the quotes.

As to the whole 'passing the buck' nonsense - I'm not. If I could help you
myself I would, but I can't. I don't have the ability to re-generate the
welcome email, reset passwords for the OOo site, etc... I can
subscribe/un-subscribe and moderate emails on most of the OOo lists - that's
it. I believe you've been around long enough to know this is not the first
time this has been discussed.

What I am suggesting is the best way I know of helping yourself.
Highlighting specific migration issues, to the email list about migration
issues is a good step. Otherwise you run the risk of having migration issues
being lost in the general users/discuss email traffic. You can of course
continue along that track, however it may not be the best use of your time
(or anyone else reading the users/discuss list).

The information provided has been valid - you may not have liked it, nor may
it have resolved your issue straight away, but the information is valid. The
link to the mailing list about migration issues is valid. It _is_ the best
way I know of getting migration issues highlighted to the right people.
Those people may be Oracle employed - perhaps venting your spleen at them

The most likely cause here is that there is an old soffice.bin process running on his (presumably)
Windows system. A restart should allow the files to open normally, or he can use the Task Manager
(whatever that is in French) to stop any soffice.bin process that shows as active. That will also
stop any associated soffice.exe processes. Reinstalling should not be needed. Would you copy him,
please? I don't have his address handy. Thanks!

This problem sometimes occurs when something goes wrong that causes OOo not to
end normally.

with which I could cut and paste into the new, longer doc.

In other words, what would be the ideal way to concatenate these
chapters in order not to have any unnecessary page breaks with the one
single documents.

Thanks.

Have you though about using a Master Document? You can find out how at
the ODFAuthors web site. Go to [1] and select according to which
version of OOo then look for WorkingWithMasterDocuments.odt/pdf and see
if that will help.

[users] OO Calc Year auto-input feature

2011-03-09 Thread Robert Jackson
I enjoyed the OO Calc Year auto-input feature, whereby Mar 9 [ENTER]
becomes Mar 9, 2011 (assumes the current year).

However, after upgrading to OO 3.2.1, this feature no longer works, and
Mar 9 [ENTER] now becomes Mar 1, 2009.

In general, mmm dd translates to 01-mmm-dd in the DDMMYY form. So the
Month is retained, but the day as entered is translated to the last 2
digits of the YY and the DD becomes 01.

I am using Win XP Professional Ver 5.1 SP3. Do Windows Regional and
Language Options play any part in this?

I have searched in vain for clues. Thanks in advance for your help.

[users] Re: Selecting all text in a Writer document

formatting with which I could cut and paste into the new, longer doc.

Yes: it's called Select All! Go to Edit | Select All (or
Ctrl+A). If your cursor is in a table cell, this will select only
the text in that cell; just repeat the action to select the whole
table and repeat it yet again to select the whole document.

One way is - as you are suggesting - to select the whole text of each
document and copy and paste it into a single document. But here's another:

o Open the first chapter.
o Save it with a new name as the new (long) document.
o Put the cursor at the end of the text, where you want chapter 2 to appear.
o Go to Insert | File... and browse to and insert your chapter 2 document.
o Repeat as necessary.

If you have unwanted page breaks, you can remove them in the normal
way. If they are manual breaks, put the cursor immediately after the
break and press Backspace.

I trust this helps.
